Mukti Ali's thoughts can provide new enthusiasm for re-examining Indonesia's educational goals now. The idea of education of Mukti Ali has given color to the concept of education in Indonesia. This can be seen by the revision of the concept of the Indonesian education curriculum into the 2013 curriculum. The 2013 curriculum simply wants to integrate various values of education in learning. The focus of this paper discusses who Mukti Ali is in education and how the concepts and relevance of Mukti Ali's education to Indonesia in the millennium era. To support the writing, the writer traced through several sources, namely through the original book by Mukti Ali and related supporting sources. The results of this paper explain that the concept of Mukti Ali's educational thinking is based on scientific concepts, national concepts, and humanitarian concepts. With these three focuses of thought, Mukti Ali seeks to develop civilization and education through the results of the Decree of the 3 Ministerial Decree, namely the existence of the same degree of graduates of public schools and madrasas. This means that Mukti Ali has initiated the concept of non-dichotomic education, the integration of educational values between religion, humans, and society. Whereas further the concept of Mukti Ali's education has been implemented by basic education institutions (SD / MI, SMP / MTs), secondary and vocational (high school, high school / MA, MAK) and higher education both private and public in Indonesia.

Paleontology and basic education: analysis of Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais and textbooks in Juiz de Fora, MG, Brazil. Paleontology has a crucial role in teaching Science and Biology for helping to understand different natural processes, although there is limited space in its school approach. It is necessary to understand how its content has been worked by the teachers, both quantitatively and qualitatively. In order to understand how their themes are addressed by basic education textbooks, in private and public schools in Juiz de Fora, after analyzing the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (National Curriculum Parameters, translated by the authors) - PCNs and their guidelines, from the sixth to the ninth year of elementary school and of the entire high school, a table of presence or absence was set up, with the main themes in Paleontology indicated, analyzing which were present in each book. For qualitative analysis, 11 questions were listed. The analysis included 22 themes in 18 elementary school and 15 high school books. High school books had the largest number of topics covered, with 123 presences, and elementary school, 69. The most present themes were: “Origin of Life”, “Theory of Evolution” and “Fossil Concept”; the least addressed: “Types of Fossils”, “Fossils as Non-Renewable Natural Resources” and “Great Extinctions”. Most books deal with subjects with no connection with other areas, without contextualization, with rare interdisciplinarity and relationship with environmental issues, necessary to confront science denialism and the recent risks of educational retrogression. The results reveal the importance of broadening the discussion on how to address Paleontology in basic education, assessing school incentives, teachers’ motivation, the perception of the importance of teaching this science, and the use of other tools besides the textbook. Keywords: science teaching, Base Nacional Comum Curricular, school, environmental education, fossils.

This study looked into Saudi female English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers’ perception of their motivational practices in the actual classroom in public and private schools. Forty (n=40) EFL teachers filled out a questionnaire consisting of forty-four motivational strategies that were based on a five-point Likert scale ranging from "very important" to "not important." Descriptive statistics have been used to determine the most and the least important teaching strategies viewed by EFL teachers in private and public schools. To determine if there was any difference between private and public schools’ teachers on how they viewed each strategy in terms of importance, inferential statistics, t-test has been implemented. The study revealed that participants in both educational contexts indicate that “teachers’ proper behavior” is the most significant motivational strategy while “having an encouraging environment” in the EFL classroom was ranked the least important strategy. The findings show that there existed a striking similarity between the two sets of teachers in regard to their perceptions of the importance of motivational strategies. The study suggests that English-as-a-Second-Language book planners should keep textbook materials in harmony with motivational strategies practiced by EFL teachers.

Background: The curricular structure of Brazilian basic education has changed in recent years. With the promulgation of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) for elementary and high school education, there is a need to change the curricula of state and municipal networks, which takes place precisely with the actual implementation in schools. Objective: To understand the view of mathematics teachers on capacity and knowledge they must have for the effective application of the BNCC in the classroom considering all the requirements, especially the skills and competencies that contemplate the curricular base. Design: Applied work, with quantitative bias, as the work presents statistical analyses. Setting and participants: Twenty-four high school mathematics teachers of the state network of the municipality of Itumbiara-GO. Data collection and analysis: Questionnaire applied to mathematics teachers, with percentage and inferential analyses such as Cronbach’s Alpha and correlation test. Results: The teachers believe that they know well the specific competencies and skills required in mathematics and its technologies, but they do not know well other areas of the BNCC and feel very insecure about applying these concepts in class. Conclusions: We noticed that the teachers play a fundamental role in implementing the BNCC in schools successfully, requiring pedagogical support such as formative courses and teaching materials to help correct the knowledge gaps they have for that task.

Financial education is one of the most recent themes in the scope of public policies, given its elevated capacity to generate positive external effects (LUSARDI, 2006). The challenge created with its integration into the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) in 2020 hints at this relevance. It became the apex among several areas of knowledge, by becoming part of a series of subjects included in the Primary and High School Education curriculum. The idea is that this movement leads to a reformulation of the Basic Education curriculum through the efforts of all subnational entities, aimed at preparing pedagogical projects at schools that include financial education (BANCO CENTRAL DO BRASIL, 2013).

Palavras-chave: Feira Científica; Ensino de Ciências; Jornal O Progresso; Educação Básica de Imperatriz/MA.ABSTRACTThis article deals with the Scientific Fairs held by the schools of the city of Imperatriz/MA, from the newspaper O Progresso from 2000 to 2013. The scientific fairs have been a watershed in the education network of Imperatriz/MA, since 2000 private and public schools have held editions of such events, such as the Regional Science and Engineering Show (MOSTRARCE), held by a private school; and in the last ten years the Municipal Secretary of Education created the Municipal Commission of Science and Technology of Imperatriz (COMCITEC) to advise the teachers of the municipal network in the creation and development of scientific fairs of municipal schools. Starting from this point of view and from school experiences, the objective of the text is to analyze the approach of the newspaper The Progress on the scientific fairs of the school network of Imperatriz/MA. To do so, we selected the period from 2000 to 2013 to be searched due to the existence of only the Imperatrizense de Letras Academy. From the analysis carried out we can say that there is an incidence of the themes, Science and Technology; Environment and Health, in the newspaper reports on scientific fairs held by schools. We believe that this incidence may be related to the concern of the period 2000 to 2013 with the environment, health and technological development to improve the lives of people in Brazil and in the world. Historically speaking, the teaching of English was never a part of Brazilian primary schools programmes. Foreign language teaching as an obligatory school subject appears only in the sixth year of basic education, and its goal is more connected to the development of critical citizens, rather than to the promotion of proficient speakers of the language. Recently, however, a number of municipal public educational systems, often in partnership with private language institutes, have introduced ELT from the very first year of primary school. This is the case, for example, of the project Rio Global Child 2016, created by the City of Rio de Janeiro in partnership with Cultura Inglesa, a well-known private English institute in Brazil. What I intend to do in this paper, thus, is: firstly, to present an historical overview of ELT in Brazilian public schools, discussing its educational relevance and functions, the challenges faced by teachers and students, and both the beliefs and debates concerning the issue (cf. Almeida, 2012; Assis-Peterson, 2003; Moita Lopes, 1996; Tílio, 2012) – including also a first account of the Brazilian cities involved in the implementation of ELT in primary schools; and, then, to discuss critically Rio de Janeiro’s project for the teaching of English in primary schools. Such a discussion is necessary not only because it may help to understand better the risks of adopting a single method (and its materials) for teaching in contexts that can be extremely different from one another, but also because other projects and experiences may benefit from an honest account of the problems faced by the association of private and public spheres and interests exemplified by Rio’s project.

The continuity of education must be seamless. Hence, adjustments in the basic education curriculum also calls for adjustments in the higher education curriculum to ensure the continuity of the learning process after transitioning from senior high school to tertiary education. Philippine Higher Educational Institutions is challenged everyday with the series of developments happening in the country. As such, adapting to these developments must be captured though curricular reforms in the PHEI curriculum. This short reflection deals with the adjustments made by the higher education in the Philippines in order to align themselves with the curricular reforms made in the basic education.
