In the present study, the effects of genetic group and heterosis on body measurements of purebreds (Charolais - C and Nellore - N), first-generation crossbreds (G1) (1/2C1/2N and 1/2N1/2C), and second-generation crossbreds (G2) (3/4C1/4N and 3/4N1/4C) males from rotational crossbreeding were evaluated at 8, 12, 18, and 24 months of age. Among the purebreds, the Nellore displayed greater rump height than the Charolais. The Charolais had greater thoracic perimeter than the Nellore, however this difference decreased gradually with advancing age, being equal between the two genetic groups at 24 months. For width of the rump, ischial opening and thoracic perimeter crossbred animals showed higher values than the purebred animals at all ages, but less pronounced at eight months of age. For all morphometric measurements, with exception of rump height, the differences of crossbreds males in relation to the purebreds, were more evident in relation to the Nellore. Heterosis was significant for morphometric measurements in male beef cattle. Morphometric measurements showed high correlation with each other and with body weight, thereby indicating that they are good indicators of body development.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to assess the effect of genetic group and heterosis on the relationship between body weight and morphometric measurements, in purebred and crossbred animals from the second (G2) and third (G3) generations of Nellore and Charolais calves. Body weight (BW), average daily weight gain (ADG), foreleg circumference (FC), thoracic girth (TG), body length (BL), and croup height (CH) were measured at birth and at 63, 210, and 365 days of age in animals from G2 and G3. Charolais animals were superior to Nellore ones for gains BW, ADG, BL, and TG, as well as for the ratio between BW gain and CH gain; Nellore animals were superior for CH gains. Crossbred animals of both generations were superior to the purebred animals for gains of BW, BL, and CH. In G2, the predominance of Charolais genes resulted in greater gains of BW, ADG, FC, and TG. The G3 animals were superior to the purebred animals for ADG, FC, and TG. No differences were found for the ratio between gains of weight and morphometric measurements. Heterosis and complementarity are apparent for weight and body measurements of crossbred calves from rotational crossings.

A comparative growth study of changes in shape was made of Hereford, Aberdeen Angus, and beef Shorthorn cattle. In addition to recording body weight, 10 surface body measurements were made, at regular time intervals, on every animal in the experimental group. Changes and differences in shape were studied by examining the functional forms of the relationships between surface body measurements and body weight for every animal. The breed and sex differences presented in this paper have also been composed with a re-analysis of the limited data available from the literature, and in general the results are similar.

This paper presents the results of the variability and correlation of body measurements and milk production of domestic Balkan goat breed that is reared in the mountain range Sharplanina, depending on the lactation. Studied animals were monitored and lactation, or order of kidding (I, II, III and IV and the next lactation together). Control of milk production, included a total of 290 goats in different lactations (first-81 animals, the second-69 heads, 71 heads third-and fourth and following along latkacije-69 heads). In order to determine the measure of body development in adult goats, one takes values for height at withers, body length, chest depth, chest width, the width of the cross and body weight. The variability of the analyzed characteristics is presented descriptive parameters and the effect of lactation is determined by a factorial analysis of variance. The determined average values for milk production and measures of body development are located within those identified for this population of goats. During these tests showed statistically significant correlation dependence (P <0.05) between all studied variables, except when it comes to length lactation period and individual measures of body development. The correlation coefficient between length of lactation and established measures of body development. are low and reflect the existence uncorrelation dependence, and their values range from 0.08 to 0.11, while they were unjustified and statistically (P> 0.05).

Individual selection is particularly indispensable in selection experiments for body weight in quail. Body weight is highly heritable trait. The study was conducted with the objective to assess the productive and reproductive performance and expected response to selection of second generation (G2) of four quail varieties conserved at Bangladesh livestock Research Institute. At 5th week of age, quails of first generation (G1) were selected on the basis of breeding value according to their 5th week body weight. A total of 1953-day-old chicks were hatched in two batches for producing second generation (G2). Diet containing 24% crude protein and 3000 kcal ME/kg were provided to the birds. The data were analyzed in a CRD factorial arrangement by General Linear Model (GLM) Univariate Procedure in SPSS Computer Program. The highest fertility was observed in White (98.31%) variety and hatchability was in Japanese (97.75%) variety. Differences in chick weight at hatch between White and Brown, Brown and Japanese, Japanese and Black, Black and White were approximately 6.90%, 2.74%, 6.20% and 10.51% respectively. The effect of variety and batch on 5th week body weight was significant (p<0.001) but interaction effect of variety and batch was not significant (p>0.05). Black quail had significantly (?2 = 25.00; p<0.01) higher (17.62%) chick mortality than that of other three varieties. As a result of selection, body weight at 5th weeks of age was expected to improve by 4.34g vs. 6.51g; 1.21g vs. 4.33g, 1.68g vs. 3.77g and 1.02g vs. 2.40g respectively for Japanese, White, Brown and Black males and females quail genotypes. It is therefore can be concluded that the White variety is superior in terms of higher body weight and higher fertility and medium chick mortality among the four quail varieties. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the productivity of the Belgian Blue x POGASI crossbred cattle raised at the Beef Cattle Research Station located at Grati, Pasuruan. Therefore, data on productivity, such as body measurements, birth, weaning, and yearling weight, as well as reproductive performances, were collected and analyzed using t-tests from 11 calves of Belgian Blue x POGASI (F1) crossbred cattle consisting of 5 males and 6 females, and also 11 calves of POGASI cattle consisting of 3 males and 8 females. From the results, there were significant differences (P<0.05) in body measurements between Belgian Blue x POGASI crosses and the POGASI cattle. Specifically, the Belgian Blue x POGASI crossbred calves had birth, weaning, and a yearling weight of 34.45±6.55 kg, 218.08±37.99 kg and 368.05±41.77 kg, respectively, as well as age at first estrus and libido of 12.99±3.13 months and 16.53±1.45 months, respectively. Also, the crossbred calves had body weight at first estrus and libido of 413.25±38.46 kg and 489.75±42.60 kg, respectively. In conclusion, the productivity of Belgian Blue x POGASI crossbred calves was higher than that of POGASI calves. Therefore, it was concluded that BB x POGASI calves produced greater performances than POGASI calves.

<p class="MDPI17abstract"><strong>Objective: </strong>The purpose of this research was to determine the performance of the first generation (G1) Kampung Super and Bangkok chicken aged 12 weeks<span lang="EN-GB">.</span></p><p class="MDPI17abstract"><strong>Methods: </strong>The research material were G1 Kampung Super and Bangkok chicken with 174 samples for each strain. This research was using the experimental method. The data collected included body weight, body weight gain, body measurements, and selected responses. The body weight, body weight gain, and body measurements data were analyzed using t-test independent, while the average value vector of body measured using <em><span>T<sup>2</sup>-Hotelling test.</span></em> Principal Component Analysis ware used to identify the characteristics of body shape and size.<strong></strong></p><p class="MDPI17abstract"><strong>Results: </strong>The results of this study showed that body weight, body weight gain of DOC-4 weeks, 4-8 weeks, 8-12 weeks, and body measurements of G1 Kampung Super chickens were real different higher (P&lt;0.05) than G1 Bangkok. The identifier of the size of the G1 Kampung Super and Bangkok chicken is the chest circumference. The characteristics of the shape G1 Kampung Super chicken is the length of the wings and the G1 Bangkok chicken is the lower body lenght. The selection response of G1 Kampung Super is higher than G1 Bangkok<span lang="EN-GB">.</span><strong></strong></p><p><strong><span>Conclusions: </span></strong>The<span> performance of G1 Kampung Super chicken was higher than G1 Bangkok chicken but the selection response value of G1 Bangkok chicken was higher than G1 Kampung Super chicken. The highest body weight gain of G1 Kampung Super and Bangkok chickens was achieved at the age of 8-12 weks</span><span lang="EN-GB">.</span></p>

The purpose of this study was to estimate the relationship between body weight (BW) and morphometric measurements of Ethiopian indigenous chicken populations and to develop prediction equations used to estimate BW from body measurements. A total of 621 chickens comprising 134 males and 487 females reared under smallholder management conditions were used for the study. Body weight and morphometric measurements including body length (BL), chest circumference (CC), shank length (SL), and shank circumference (SC) were taken using a hanging scale and a textile measuring tape, respectively. The relationship between BW and morphometric measurements was determined using Pearson’s correlation coefficients (r) and stepwise multiple regression analyses. Descriptive statistics indicated that male birds were heavier than female birds. Correlation results revealed that body weight was significantly and strongly correlated with SL (r = 0.76) in both sexes, and moderately correlated with SC (r = 0.69), BL (r = 0.67), and CC (r = 0.52) in male birds, BL (r=0.68) and SC (r = 0.59) in female birds. Compared to other measurements, SL best predicted BW in both male and female birds, with coefficients of determination (R2) = 0.58. Combining SL with other body measurements (BL, CC, and SC) generally improved the predictive power of the equation. Thus, multiple regression equations that included a combination of the four linear body measurements are more suitable for predicting BW of Ethiopian indigenous chicken populations.

Assessment of carcass and meat characteristics of Nellore young bulls or dairy crossbred young bulls fed two levels of grass-Convert silage in the rations (400 and 100 g kg-1 of dry matter). Sixteen Nellore young bulls and 16 dual-purpose dairy young bulls (Holstein x Gir and Holstein x Guzerá) with average initial body weight of 378.8±13.8 kg were used. The experimental design was completely randomized with treatments in a 2x2 factorial arrangement. The proportion of silage and the genetic group did not change the percentage of muscle, fat and bone of the carcass. The yield of the primary commercial cuts was not altered by the level of silage. The pistol cut weight was higher in Nellore young bulls compared to dairy crossbred young bulls (125.8 vs. 119.5 kg), while the relative weight of short ribs was higher in dairy crossbreds (11.9 vs. 11.5%). Only the muscle cut of the pistol was altered by silage proportion in the rations, being higher in those with the lowest proportion of grass silage. On the other hand, only the relative weight of flat, rump cap and edible lean trims were altered by genetic group, which were higher in Nellore young bulls. Among the characteristics of the meat, only marbling was significantly changed, being higher in dairy crossbreds fed rations with a lower grass-silage proportion. The genetic group did not alter the other meat characteristics. Nellore young bulls produce carcasses with higher yield of valuable meat cuts in relation to dairy crossbred young bulls.
