Christian religious education is a learning effort made to learn about the truth of God's Word. Where in every material that is taught there are things that are based on it so that it can be used as guidelines and well explained. In everyday life we are often asked questions, which make us keep trying to give the right answer so that someone who asks can be satisfied with what we have answered, besides that we will keep trying to find things that underlie the answers we give. And this is the same as our faith in our Lord. Therefore, in the process of teaching Christian education, we are taught to be able to defend our faith regarding the Word of God, so that when someone asks us, we can provide a correct understanding or what is called apologetics. And this Apologetic teaching is based on the Bible through the story of the apostle Paul's ministry which was very bold in preaching the existence of God. Where the Apostle Paul often made apologetics or his defense by using speech

Contextualisation of the New Testament within a postmodern paradigm: Creation of meaning or application of meaning? Owing to a largely postmodernist paradigm new emphasis on preaching the Bible in a modern-day context has emerged over the last few decades. Scholars operating within the sphere of this new paradigm are committed to the deconstructionist views of text and meaning. Rejecting the notion of “the meaning” of a text, their idea of contextualisation is to create a new meaning for a text for each new context. Consequently, a number of “contextual theologies” have arisen in which the context of the reader has become a determinant for the meaning of the text. In this article, however, the contextualisation of the Biblical message is argued from a Reformed viewpoint. Based on the conviction that the Bible, as Word of God, is not time-bound but time-addressed, it is argued that although the Biblical text originated within the context of the first readers, it is not restricted to the context of the first readers. The Biblical text also addresses the context of the readers of all times. Hence contextualisation does not imply creating a new meaning for every new context, but rather finding the link between original context and contemporary context. The hermeneutical process identifying and applying this link is known as hermeneusis.

The conclusion recapitulates the variegated dynamics at play in the interpretation and use of the Bible in the Dutch Public Church when Spinoza articulated his biblical criticism. Spinoza’s Tractatus theologico-politicus did not suddenly open the eyes of his contemporaries to the technical and philosophical problems of identifying a text with the Word of God. Rather it arrived at an extremely delicate moment, when forces from various directions were already contesting one another over the authority to interpret Scripture in their own ways. These forces had their own momentum when refuting Spinoza’s outlandish appeal to biblical philology, and responded in turn to one another inlight of the new reality. In result, by 1700 the space allowed for exegetical variety within the doctrinal enclosure of the Public Church had gradually widened, but it remained a contested terrain where innovations were easily considered, or branded, harmful to ecclesiastical unity.

Abstract This article contrasts hostility toward visual and literary art in English radical Puritanism before the late seventeenth century with the central role of art for Dutch Mennonites, many involved in the commercial prosperity of Amsterdam. Both 1620s Mennonites and 1650s–1660s Quakers debated the relationship between literal truth of the Bible and claims for the power of a personally felt Holy Spirit. This was the intra-Mennonite “Two-Word Dispute,” and for Quakers an opportunity to attack Puritans who argued that the Bible was literally the Word of God, not the “light within.” Mennonites like Jan Theunisz and Quakers like Samuel Fisher made extensive use of learning, festive subversion and poetry. Texts from the earlier dispute were republished in order to traduce the Quakers when they came to Amsterdam in the 1650s and discovered openness to conversation but not conversion.

This article investigates the role that Practical Theology can play in addressing the problem of alienation amongst the people of South Africa. The investigation is conducted from the viewpoint of the biblical concept of diakonia (service work). This concept as well as the content of Practical Theology as it is found in the first letter of Peter is investigated with the purpose of elucidating the diakonia of Practical Theology with regard to alienation. Four questions are answered in the article: What may some of the reasons why people in South Africa experience alienation be? What significance do the results of the most recent research into the diakon word group have for the diakonia of Practical Theology? What insight can be gained from 1 Peter into the diakonia of Practical Theology for people who may be experiencing alienation in South Africa? What should the diakonia of Practical Theology in the light of 1 Peter be for people who experience alienation? Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This article addresses the issue of alienation. This is an issue that also falls within the research field of sociology and psychology. This article wants to make a contribution from a biblical perspective using the exegesis of a New Testament letter (1 Pt) with the focus on 1 Peter 4:10 and the use of the diakon word group in the letter. The article thus also operates on the research field of New Testament Theology. The results of the exegesis are used to give guidelines for the diakonia of Practical Theology in South Africa. The article challenges the way some research in Practical Theology is done, not using the Bible as reference point, thus making the distinction between Practical Theology and sciences like sociology and psychology indistinct.

This paper examines the applied principles and leadership styles of great ancient men in the light of the Bible as the Word of God. Practically speaking, scholarly literature in leadership and management lacked attention to studying biblical figures as leaders. The author utilized secondary analysis of qualitative information from documented life stories of renowned leaders in human history. This paper uses qualitative content analysis to evaluate patterns of famous ancient leaders' styles in leading their subjects. With content analysis, the author is obliged to read and re-read the text, specifically the Bible as the main source of data and focusing on the specific timeline of the ancient world.  The scope and limitation of this paper cover only the discussion on the prominent historical people, specifically Biblical characters and does not include the current leaders of our time. This paper hopes to bring back the basics on leading people worth emulating by modern-day leaders. It explores the successes and failures of these ancient leaders that shaped history and even world cultures.
