The purpose of this research study was to investigate the roles of English teachers and subject teachers engaged in the collaborative process of interdisciplinary teaching in English for Specific Purposes subjects at a Thai university and explore the benefits and drawbacks of implementing such collaborations. In addition, students’ attitudes towards interdisciplinary teacher collaboration (ITC) in ESP classrooms were explored. Participants were English teachers, subject teachers, and students studying on ESP subjects. This research study used a mixed methods approach from four sources of data. The findings revealed the extensive roles taken on by both teachers involved in the ITCs. Roles for the English teacher involved being a lesson planner, teacher, learning organizer, and class activities designer. The subject teacher’s role was identified as a consultant or informant, supporter, monitor, and facilitator. The benefits were that an English teacher gained confidence, reduced worry in teaching ESP subjects, and received instant feedback from the subject teacher. The drawbacks were that it was challenging to balance the different schedules of both teachers and that lesson planning was time consuming. Students showed positive attitudes towards this method of teaching. They liked to study because of the enjoyable and knowledgeable activities and the teacher’s confidence.

The main concern of this article is the nature and the role of an EFL classroom speaking activity, known as pyramid discussion, whereby learners progressively form larger groups as they carry out a series of discussions on certain topics. This research interest stemmed from my personal experiences as an English language teacher in the context of Japan in which the majority of the teachers still regard the act of teaching English as the presentation of compartmentalized knowledge, as opposed to the promotion of communicative abilities. In this article, I introduce an action research study into the employment of the pyramid discussion approach in an English Teaching Methods course at a Japanese university and illuminate the effectiveness of the approach on the students, who are pre-service English teachers, in the course. Data will detail how the approach could notably assist the participants in seizing communication opportunities in English and in holding positive attitudes toward their teacher, classmates, and themselves as learners and future teachers of English. Implications are provided as a conclusion

Although necessary for teachers, research on investigating the teachers’ perceived attitudes toward the implementation of the 21st century skills for teaching English in primary schools in Bali is still limited. This study aimed to investigate primary school’s English teachers’ perceived attitudes toward the implementation of 21st-century skills. The design of this study was a sequential embedded mixed method with dominantly used qualitative design. This study used 3 English teachers and two headmasters from 2 primary schools in Tabanan regency as the subject. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and interview to gain the data of teachers’ perceived attitudes toward the implementation of the 21st century skills. From the data that have been obtained, primary English teachers gave positive attitudes toward 95,8% of the skills in the implementation of 21st century skills. The interview section showed that the teacher lacks understanding of 21st century skills because of a lack of in-depth information about 21st century skills. Moreover, the teachers have to be aware of 21st century skills in the assessment as one of the concepts that are adapted for Kurikulum 2013.
