The purposes of this research are to compare the practice between working standard and personal working standard of teachers who are certified by attending professional teacher knowledge standard workshop held by the teachers’ council who are different in gender, age, ways of knowledge certified and teaching according to/not according to educational certificate background. The samples are 246 research participants certified by attending professional teacher knowledge standard workshop of the teacher’s council: Developmental division of the Faculty of Education, Mahasarakham University. Sampling operated by using Multi-Stage Random Sampling. Teachers’ data collection are self-evaluation and with school directors also as informers. Research instrument are piloted quality inspected questionnaire indicated by Item Total Correlation and Reliability of Cronbach. Data are analyzed by using X, s.d., t-test: independent samples, One way ANOVA, and multiple comparison of Scheffe. The research found that: 1) Overall, the female teachers who have been certified by attending professional teacher knowledge standard workshop of the teacher’s council follow teaching standard in the academic activities facets on professional teacher’s development and self-practice standard and ethic is higher than male teachers with statistically significant at the .05 level. 2) Teachers who with age differences follow the standard of being a good role model for the students. They work cooperatively with others in the community creatively. Personal practice standard about ethic to society is different with statistically significant at the .05 level. 3) Teachers who have been certified by attending professional teacher knowledge standard workshop of the teacher’s council foster on teacher professional development and immensely develop the students to their full potential more than transferring method with statistically significant at the .05 level. 4) Teachers who teach according to educational certificate background practice according to the standard professional teacher on designing learning activities with the students in mind. They thrive so as to make every opportunity to be for learning. They also have higher ethic than teachers who are not teaching according to their educational certificate background with statistically significant at the .05 level.

Background/aims Safe and effective therapies for COVID-19 are urgently needed. In order to meet this need, the Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines public–private partnership initiated the Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19. Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19 is a multi-arm, multi-stage platform master protocol, which facilitates the rapid evaluation of the safety and efficacy of novel candidate antiviral therapeutic agents for adults hospitalized with COVID-19. Five agents have so far entered the protocol, with rapid answers already provided for three of these. Other agents are expected to enter the protocol throughout 2021. This protocol contains a number of key design and implementation features that, along with challenges faced by the protocol team, are presented and discussed. Methods Three clinical trial networks, encompassing a global network of clinical sites, participated in the protocol development and implementation. Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19 utilizes a multi-arm, multi-stage design with an agile and robust approach to futility and safety evaluation at 300 patients enrolled, with subsequent expansion to full sample size and an expanded target population if the agent shows an acceptable safety profile and evidence of efficacy. Rapid recruitment to multiple agents is enabled through the sharing of placebo, the confining of agent-specific information to protocol appendices, and modular consent forms. In collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration, a thorough safety data collection and Data and Safety Monitoring Board schedule was developed for the study of potential therapeutic agents with limited in-human data in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Results As of 8 August 2021, five agents have entered the Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19 master protocol and a total of 1909 participants have been randomized to one of these agents or matching placebo. There were a number of challenges faced by the study team that needed to be overcome in order to successfully implement Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19 across a global network of sites. These included ensuring drug supply and reliable recruitment allowing for changing infection rates across the global network of sites, the need to balance the collection of data and samples without overburdening clinical staff and obtaining regulatory approvals across a global network of sites. Conclusion Through a robust multi-network partnership, the Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19 protocol has been successfully used across a global network of sites for rapid generation of efficacy data on multiple novel antiviral agents. The protocol design and implementation features used in this protocol, and the approaches to address challenges, will have broader applicability. Mechanisms to facilitate improved communication and harmonization among country-specific regulatory bodies are required to achieve the full potential of this approach in dealing with a global outbreak.

Este artigo apresenta uma revisão de literatura sobre o conhecimento profissional de professores de matemática e o conceito de função. Trata-se de um estudo que se insere em uma pesquisa mais ampla, que tinha por temática investigar os conhecimentos mobilizados por professores, ao planejar e ao coproduzir aulas sobre o conceito de função. A estrutura deste texto é baseada em três questões-unidades de trabalho: (a) Quais referenciais teóricos aparecem? (b) Quais compreensões acerca do conhecimento profissional docente as pesquisas nos mostram? (c) O que as pesquisas sobre conhecimento profissional docente nos comunicam, quando pensamos no conceito de função? Dentre os resultados que são aqui apresentados indica-se a convergência em torno de certos referenciais teóricos e metodológicos, o que aponta para a necessidade de exploração de novas fronteiras para a região de inquérito investigada nesta pesquisa.This article presents a literature review on the professional knowledge of mathematics teachers and the concept of function. This is a study that is part of a broader research, which had the theme to investigate the knowledge mobilized by teachers, when planning and coproducing classes about the concept of function. The structure of this paper is based on three work-units questions: (a) Which theoretical frameworks do appear in the researches? (b) What understandings of professional teacher knowledge do the researches show us? (c) What do the researches on professional teacher knowledge communicate to us when we think of the concept of function? Among the results presented here, the convergence around certain theoretical and methodological references is indicated, which points to the need to explore new frontiers for the thematic investigated in this research.

We review two books that provide perspective on leadership challenges and best practices for building successful companies. Lessons and frameworks are extracted from our reviews of recent books focused on two high-profile life science companies, Amgen and Theranos. Amgen, a pioneer in commercializing biotechnology was very successful, and along with Genentech set the standard for how to build and scale successful companies in the industry based on transformative life science technologies. Theranos, a more recent undertaking, illustrates a very high-profile company that pursued commercialization of a revolutionary diagnostic technology for blood testing with the promise of multi-purpose diagnostics obtained “from a single prick of blood”. Theranos has turned out to be anything but a success and as reported by Molly Brown at Geekwire (loc. cit.) is actually a “what not to do guide for startups”. We reprise and summarize materials previously published by one of us as a book review on Amgen (“Science Lessons: What I Learned about Management from Biotechnology”, by Gordon Binder and Phillip Bashe). Amgen serves as a role model for “the good” in building successful life science companies. Then, we provide a short review of the recent best seller on the Theranos story, titled “Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup” by John Carreyrou. In Theranos, the “bad and the ugly” are self-evident. Carreyrou’s excellent investigative reporting is highlighted in our review of that book, but as of this writing the story continues to unfold in the press and in the court system as a result of the alleged fraud from misrepresentation to investors, partners, and regulators by Theranos leadership. We use these two book reviews to highlight the 3Ps that comprise the ingredients for a successful company – the Problem (or opportunity), the People (leadership, ethics, culture) and the Processes (which are employed to validate the product/market fit incrementally prior to being able to exploit the full potential of the technology that underlies the platform and business model). The People dimension (team, leadership and culture, e. g. execution) is indeed critical to success, and we focus on that here.

The Australian mezzo-soprano Ada Beatrice Bloxham (1865–1956) was the inaugural winner (in 1883) of the Clarke Scholarship for a promising musician resident in the Colony of Victoria to study at the Royal College of Music in London. She was the first Australian to enrol at the Royal College of Music and to graduate as an Associate of the College in 1888, and she was the first woman to be awarded a Fellowship of the Tonic Sol-fa College, London, also in 1888. After a period teaching and performing in Japan (1893–1899), she married and lived variously in South Africa, England, and France, returning to Australia in 1927. Due most probably to her marriage and family responsibilities, she appears not to have achieved her full potential as a performer and teacher. Nevertheless, Bloxham is worthy of recognition as having gained success as a musician and educator both in her native Australia and abroad during her early and middle years, and as a pathfinder and role model for other women during the early years of their musical careers.

Extensive reading (ER) has been advocated for having numerous benefits and values to foreign language classes. The Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University has prescribed a wide range of textbooks, reference materials, and web-based materials, especially for Masters’ students. Besides, these learners are required to read out-of-the-course materials, too. These contexts call for extensive reading on the part of the learners. Based on this background, the present study aimed to explore the learners’ choice for reading materials, their purposes of reading, and the expected teacher roles. The study followed the survey research design. The respondents were 100 M.Ed. 1st and 2nd year English students of the academic year 2014-15 A.D. of Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara. ABSTRACT: Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and a researcher-designed questionnaire tagged PFRQ (Predisposing Factors of Recidivism Questionnaire) was used to obtain relevant information. Multi-stage sampling technique was adopted to select 250 prison officers from all the five prison centers in Kwara State, Nigeria. Findings showed that prison officers perceived factors, such as non-availability of employment opportunities for ex-convicts, problem of where to start a new life after release from prison among others. The results, further, revealed significant difference in predisposing factors of recidivism as perceived by prison officers based on years in service, but no significant difference was found based on gender. It was recommended that counsellors should endeavour to beam their searchlight into issues of crime, imprisonment, and recidivism; counsellors should also liaise with different NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), including faith-based to assist released offenders to achieve ease of re-integration into the society.KEY WORD: Predisposing Factors; Recidivism; Prison Officers; Kwara State in Nigeria. ABSTRAKSI: “Faktor-faktor Predisposisi Residivisme yang Dipersepsikan oleh Petugas Penjara di Negara Bagian Kwara, Nigeria: Implikasi bagi Praktek Konseling”. Desain survei deskriptif diadopsi untuk penelitian ini dan kuesioner yang dirancang oleh peneliti yang diberi label PFRQ (Faktor-faktor Predisposisi Kuesioner Residivisme) digunakan untuk memperoleh informasi yang relevan. Teknik pengambilan sampel multi-tahap diadopsi untuk memilih 250 petugas penjara dari semua lima pusat penjara di Negara Bagian Kwara, Nigeria. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa petugas penjara memahami faktor-faktor, seperti tidak tersedianya kesempatan kerja bagi mantan narapidana, masalah dimana memulai kehidupan baru setelah dibebaskan dari penjara antara lain. Hasilnya, lebih lanjut, mengungkapkan perbedaan signifikan dalam faktor predisposisi residivisme seperti yang dirasakan oleh petugas penjara berdasarkan tahun dalam pelayanan, tetapi tidak ada perbedaan signifikan yang ditemukan berdasarkan jenis kelamin. Family which is the main trust of socialization is faced with many challenges in the contemporary world. Couples no longer fancy each other. Children are in constant struggle with parents. Many marriages are experiencing either divorce, separation or face off as a result of conflict. The present study deals primarily with causes, consequences and strategies in managing family conflict and how it applies to one’s understanding of emotion and struggling of power. The study made use of descriptive survey design. The sample of the study was 300 parents from different States of the Federation on Masters and Bachelor sandwich programme in the Department Educational Foundations who offers Sociology of Education in the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka drawn through random sampling technique. A 54 item Strategies for Managing Family Conflict Questionnaire (SMFCQ) developed by the researchers was used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Result indicated that infertility, financial difficulties, poor communication between family members, lack of sexual satisfaction/gratification can lead to conflict in the family. Family conflicts inflict people for the course of their life and prevent them from experiencing their full potential. It causes feeling of fear, of insecurity, rejection, and guilt which may lead to the development of ill-health, separation, divorce or even death. Strategies for dealing with conflict which such as focusing on the area of interest, striving to stay positive focusing on cooperation instead of control, approaching conflict with the aim to understand, resolve and respond are identified among others. It was recommended that conflict education be giving to couples at the period of courtship.Keywords: Family; conflict; Family conflict; Emotion and Power Struggles

The purpose of this research was to describe the role of teachers mentors that is facilitating learning for Primary School Teacher Education students (PGSD) Universitas Pelita Harapan when implementing First Field Experience (PPL 1) program. The implementation of the learning process through PPL 1 for student teachers, was strongly influenced by the role of the mentors teachers. The role teachers mentors to help, to be a role model, to do assessment and to give feedback to students teacher facilitate the students and increase their abilities to understand the whole lesson held at school. The role of teachers mentors were expected to have an influence on students in the second PPL, third PPL, and in other learning activities in campus. The research method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative method in which it will describe the results of student assessment to their teachers mentors when in PPL 1. The assessment is a questionnaire with a range of 1 to 5. The statements in the questionnaire were taken from a field experience handbook of Faculty of Education (Teachers College) Universitas Pelita Harapan about the roles and responsibilities of a teachers mentors. The participants involved in this research were PGSD students. AbstractUrban agriculture (UA) is promoted as a viable strategy to support the food demands of the increasing urban population in the global south. However, UA faces severe constraints that could undermine this potential. To sustain urban food production, there is a research need to identify the main factors deterring UA activities. This study, therefore, aims to examine the constraints faced by urban farmers in carrying out their UA production activities. Two hundred and eighty urban farmers selected through a multi-stage sampling technique were used for the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire/interview schedule and analysed using descriptive statistics and principal component analysis (PCA). The study shows that the urban farmers were engaged in four main types of agro-enterprises. They include crop production, livestock production, agro-processing, and the supply of farming inputs. The majority of the UA farmers indicated that they were into maize production (75%), poultry production (60%), and 25% were into fish farming. The PCA result suggests three key constraints to UA, namely infrastructural constraints, socio-economic/environmental constraints, and institutional constraints. For UA in southeast Nigeria to reach its full potential, the study recommends proactive policy responses in support of UA. Also required is infrastructural support in terms of good road networks and marketing facilities to best support UA activities.
