This paper aims to recount a shared experience of some psychology students – an intellectual adventure of exploring one’s own approach towards human relations and nature on the way to becoming a psychotherapist. To become practitioners, the students need to choose a certain psychotherapeutic training based on one of the main psychotherapeutic theoretical approaches. The following are mentioned in this paper: psychoanalysis, cognitivebehavioral therapy, humanistic/existential and the postmodern narrative approach. Exploring the assumptions underlying different modalities and practices is also considered here to be an ethical challenge. It is reckoned that the choice of a specific psychotherapeutical practice bound to a theory shapes the identity of the therapist and the patients, forms the language and behaviour through which the future therapist will express his own Self and influence the Other. Referring to postmodern inspirations, the author speaks in favour of making an endless effort of recognizing the assumptions underlying different practices – as the only way for not taking a potentially violent and impervious attitude in the relationship between the therapist and the patient.

Elton Mayo, mules and the discovery of 'social space' Elton Mayo, mules and the discovery of 'social space' L.A. ten Horn, Gedrag & Organisatie, volume 22, March 2009, nr. 1, pp. 41-49 The Human Relations movement has fundamentally altered the way we look at the relationship between work and the individual. This shift is traced using publications by Elton Mayo. Over a period of more than twenty years he reported several times on the same research project done in the spinning department of a textile mill in 1923/1924. Both his description and his interpretation changed dramatically between publications from 1924 to 1945. The changes were caused by and ran parallel to the Hawthorne studies in which he was deeply involved. The comparison of publications illustrates how fundamental and incisive this change in thinking was and how difficult it was to make the mental shift necessary. In addition, it questions the extent to which the development of knowledge over time is the result of strict rationality.

Quality of Worship and Intensity of Amar Ma’ruf Nahi Munkar in Muslim Personal Religiousity Spectrum. Islam as dienullah is the most perfect religion. Islam has the practice of completely surrendering to Allah, it is the core attitude of Muslim personal riligiusitas and the realization of noble morality (mahmudah). Understanding and reintroducing Islamic teachings is one of the aspects that must be considered is the quality of worship and the importance of being in the way of marriage. This has actually been widely known by Muslims, so what is needed is how to implement and sharpen the sense of religion towards self and others so that it becomes a driver and encouragement in preaching. Da’wah can be interpreted as the process of delivering Islamic religion to mankind. In a process of da’wah it is not only a conveying endeavor, but an attempt to change the way of thinking, the way of feeling, the way of life, the human being is the target of the mission towards the better. The quality of worship and success in preaching are finally seen when behavior is a reflection of faith. So sincerity in devotion to God will be biased to the spirit of work ethic both in the realm of human relations with God and the relationship between humans and humans (hablun minallah wa hablun minannas). This is where the meeting point between the quality of worship and the spirit of preaching in the spectrum of one’s religious reality.

Abstract This text presents a synthesis of the main analytical trends that have addressed the analysis of the dynamics of citizen security in Colombia. It seeks to demonstrate how the strategic change regarding the object, objectives and dynamics of public security policies in the country has been analyzed. In this sense, it seeks to analyze the way in which the relationship between urban violence and public policies has been thought; from there, it seeks to demonstrate the way in which the transition has been addressed in the treatment of the internal enemy to the diversification in the treatment of multiple violence. In the second instance, it is sought to demonstrate the way in which such modifications occur within the profound changes in the international system of states, as in the framework of a series of dynamics at the national level that provide a new constitutional framework from 1991 onwards. Finally, we try to contextualize the way in which academic production in this regard problematizes the relationship between security and constitution of the state monopoly of force, its scope and limitations. Set of perspectives considered necessary to contemplate as a contribution to the processes of construction of security policies in the framework of the Colombian post-conflict.

This chapter discusses and critically analyses legal monism and its main theoretical competitors (legal dualism and legal pluralism) from a philosophical, historical, and legal viewpoint. Legal monism will only be described in rather broad strokes and brushes here, since the remainder of this book is dedicated to its defence anyway. This rough overview will only serve to give an outline of the different versions of monism, which will then help make the case for the epistemological-normative version of monism as envisaged by the pure theory of law. Furthermore dualism, its main characteristics, and a critical appraisal, and legal pluralism and its most prominent varieties will be scrutinized and critiqued. A conclusion on the theoretical approaches discussed here eventually paves the way for the subsequent main parts of this book.

The article elaborates on the place and status of items and the relationship that occurs between human and thing in Bogusława’s Latawiec poetry. The author made an attempt to capture the way in which this issue has evolved in Latawiec’s poetic works – from her first book to the last collection of poems. At the same time poetry has been confronted them with selected theoretical approaches.

AbstractCurrent digital infrastructures have not only profoundly changed the way people communicate with each other, but also the material conditions in which people relate to other people, people relate to things, and also things relate to things. These emerging alliances have an impact on relationships between human and non-human actors, and thus also on concepts of individual subjectivity. In the field of art, with neo-materialistic theoretical approaches, a new relationship can be observed between the artist-subject and the art-artifacts, which places the materials in the focus of the dissonance. This displacement is to the disadvantage of the individual artist-subject. In this chapter, these theoretical considerations are exemplified by an examination of the relations between people and things in the exhibition “Co-Workers - Network as Artist” at the MAM in Paris (2015/16). The exhibition is particularly interesting because of its understanding of digital materiality.

Although sad films elicit states of sadness and cause onlookers to mourn beloved characters, these media offerings also lead to enjoyment. This paradoxical situation challenges both theoretical approaches and empirical studies in entertainment research. Based on an appraisal-theoretical framework, the present study examined the role of multiple appraisals of recipients’ sadness. It is argued that these so-called meta-appraisals are able to transform one’s sadness into a positive meta-emotion (i.e., enjoyment); this process is called valence transformation. Results of an experimental study (N = 149) showed that in cases of a sad film ending, participants experienced higher levels of sadness than they did in cases of a happy ending. Furthermore, given a sad ending, meta-appraisal processes were activated that mediated the relationship between sadness and enjoyment. If the film had a happy ending, however, there were no indirect effects. Results are discussed in the light of theoretical considerations.

In Strelau’s theory of temperament (RTT), there are four types of temperament, differentiated according to low vs. high stimulation processing capacity and to the level of their internal harmonization. The type of temperament is considered harmonized when the constellation of all temperamental traits is internally matched to the need for stimulation, which is related to effectiveness of stimulation processing. In nonharmonized temperamental structure, an internal mismatch is observed which is linked to ineffectiveness of stimulation processing. The three studies presented here investigated the relationship between temperamental structures and the strategies of categorization. Results revealed that subjects with harmonized structures efficiently control the level of stimulation stemming from the cognitive activity, independent of the affective value of situation. The pattern of results attained for subjects with nonharmonized structures was more ambiguous: They were as good as subjects with harmonized structures at adjusting the way of information processing to their stimulation processing capacities, but they also proved to be more responsive to the affective character of stimulation (positive or negative mood).

Advances in computer technology have created opportunities for the development of a multimedia situational test in which responses are filmed with a webcam. This paper examined the relationship of a so-called webcam test with personality, cognitive ability, job experience, and academic performance. Data were collected among 153 psychology students. In line with our expectations, scores on the webcam test, intended to measure interpersonally oriented leadership, were related to extraversion, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and job experience. Furthermore, the webcam tests significantly predicted students’ learning activities during group meetings over and above a cognitive ability test and a personality questionnaire. Overall, this study demonstrates that webcam tests can be a valid complement to traditional predictors in selection contexts.
