Purpose. Assessment of the effectiveness of activities undertaken as part of creating and managing the country’s tourism brand by National Tourism Organisations (NTO). Method. Empirical research concerned activities undertaken in relation to the creation and management of the country’s tourism brand by 81 NTOs that function in the area of five main world tourist regions (according to the World Tourism Organisation – UNWTO). The process of data collection and verification covers the years of 2013-2016. The used research methods include: the diagnostic survey method with the use of the questionnaire technique, direct interviews and statistical analyses. Results. Significant divergences were confirmed in the assessment concerning the effectiveness of individual activities undertaken by the NTOs examined in the area of creating and managing the country’s tourism brand. The initial hierarchy of the effectiveness of activities undertaken by the NTOs examined as part of the process of the management of the country’s tourism brand (conducted by the examined organisations) was not confirmed by the results of statistical analysis (correlations with the accepted measures of effectiveness). This is related to quasi-governmental and non-governmental organisations. Research and conclusions limitations. Empirical research solely concerned the functioning of those organisations which can be referred to as rightful NTOs, i.e. those entities which meet the basic criteria that are to be fulfilled by this type organisation (including the main task: promotion of a given country as an attractive tourist destination). Practical implications. Conclusions that follow from the study can be used by those organisations responsible for the brand management process related to a tourist reception area on different levels of administration (including local, regional and national entities). Originality. This type of analysis has not been conducted until now. Therefore, the present study offers a novel approach to the functioning of national tourism organisations by presenting the broadest ever spectrum of areas of interests related to this type organisation. Type of work. The article predominantly presents the results of empirical research.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to know which growth-impeding constraints are perceived to act upon operations of small- to medium-sized (SME) companies by their owner-managers and to recommend transitionary paths to elevate constraints and increase contribution levels made by SMEs’ operations. To do so, this research has been primarily founded upon Hayes et al.’s (2005) operations contribution model for differentiating between different levels of operations’ contribution, and secondarily on the theory of constraints philosophy to explain the perceptions of constraints found at each level – current and future. Design/methodology/approach An open-ended survey and a series of group workshops have gathered new empirical data about these perceptions, which were coded using the relational content analysis to identify a parsimonious set of perceptual growth-impeding constraint categories. The most popular transitions were identified and a correlation of frequency rank orders between “perceived current” and “perceived future” constraints categories was calculated, and likely transitionary paths for growth are discussed. Three SME case studies were documented in related action research to contextualise survey findings. Findings The most popular transition was from “neutral” to “leading”. A lack of people capability was perceived to be the most commonly reported growth-impeding constraint category, followed by a combined lack of process competence and product and service innovation, further followed by a lack of skills in information technology automation. In addition, a new conceptual model has been generated inductively to address shortcomings found in the original operations contribution model (Hayes et al., 2005) during its application to UK SMEs. The new model is referred to in this paper as the “Operations Growth Rocket”. Research limitations/implications This research only used data from UK SMEs. Practical implications This work should help SME owner-managers to overcome growth-impeding constraints that act upon their operations and assist them to develop more effective actions and paths to increase the contribution levels made by their operations. This in turn should support growth of their organisations. Findings will also inform teaching about more effective operations management in SMEs. Social implications This work should help UK SMEs to grow, which in turn will strengthen the UK economy. Originality/value A novel approach and new data from 208 SMEs modify a classical operations contribution model (Hayes et al., 2005). This is achieved by considering transitionary paths to be meta-categories continua abstracted from constraint categories combined with case data for moving towards higher levels of operations contribution, rather than using discrete growth-impeding and growth-constraining “levels”. This research has inductively generated a new version of the classical contribution model that should be more suitable for stimulating growth in (UK) SMEs.

Purpose – First, the purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze the role of the components in the creation of a partnering way of working; second, to illustrate how the achievement of such collaborative state is dependent on a hierarchy of constructs. Design/methodology/approach – The paper builds on a large case study of a successful Swedish partnering project. The case, studied through extensive interviews and observations, was process-oriented and analyzed using a theoretically driven thematic analysis. Findings – It is shown that components exist on different levels and constitute different types of building blocks in striving toward a “true” collaborative climate. It is also shown that as the project progressed, even the non-partnering sub-projects were infused with a collaborative way of working. To this end it is suggested that there might be a certain stickiness related to this way of working. As trust, openness, and mutual understanding are constructs on an interpersonal level, it is on the interpersonal level partnering endeavors are won or lost. Research limitations/implications – The paper provides a new conceptualization of the partnering components and also an understanding of how the components contribute to the creation of a collaborative climate. Because the research was built on a case study, one has the limitations common with that approach. Practical implications – The importance of understanding that individual expectations are the basis for the action and learning that interact in a constant feedback loop, as the partnering pyramid is climbed. Originality/value – This understanding should be of interest for both practitioners and academics working with partnering.

Purpose. To determine the scope and character of cooperation between Polish cities and regions with bloggers in the field of tourism promotion and to check whether the situation is changing over time. Method. In the first part, there is a literature review on the use of the blogosphere for promotion. The second part presents the results of empirical research in which the diagnostic survey method was used Results. The research allowed to determine which Polish cities and regions cooperated or planned to cooperate with bloggers in the field of tourism promotion. Interests were among issues such as: how many internet creators have collaborated; the aims and scope, forms and nature of this cooperation and whether its results were monitored. Research and conclusions limitations. A certain limitation in the conducted application was the lack of the response from all institutions covered by the survey. Practical implications. Determining the generality and systemicity (all activities related to planning, organising and measuring the effects of cooperation) or lack thereof cooperation between Polish cities and regions with bloggers in the field of tourism promotion, and preparing recommendations for institutions conducting tourist promotion in cooperation with bloggers. Originality. No analyses regarding the use of influencer marketing in tourism were conducted in Poland so far. Research allows preliminary diagnoses in this area, especially concerning the scale (universality) of its application among entities responsible for tourism promotion and the diversity of forms and nature of cooperation with bloggers that occurs in individual cities and regions. Type of work. The article presents the results of empirical research.

Purpose. Developing the typology of the genre of tourist guides as a tool for adequate, precise publication titulary. Method. Paging and diagnosing studies revealed the existence of guides without precise titles. To assess the scale of this phenomenon, a collection of 99 pieces of tourist guides from 1989-2009 gathered in a random manner was prepared. Empirical research of this collection was undertaken. Representativeness of the sample was considered sufficient in connection with ensuring territorial, chronological and species-related homogeneity. Statistical methods and techniques were used: statistical average of the occurrence of selected characteristics of the titulary in order to derive qualitative conclusions taken into account during the creation of the typology. Findings. The concept of multicriterial typology of the genre along with the definition of a tourist guide, as the basis for the new standards of tourist guide titles. Research and conclusions limitations. The research concerned Polish guides. Defining the guide and typology requires further research of the guide's empirical reception for corrections resulting from new trends in tourism. Practical implications. Typologies may be used by entities present in the publishing or library classifications. Adequate to the content of the multicriteria, titulary may help authors. The examples of the use of typology in constructing a hypothetical title of the guide are shown. Originality. A large number of examined guides. It is not without significance that the recipients understand the intentions of the author. So far, no such research topic has been undertaken. No tool was proposed to solve the titulary adequacy in relation to the contents of the guides. Type of paper. Article discussing the concept of typology supported by empirical research with examples of its application.

Annotation. The quality of translation of the Shukshins stories is analyzed in the Middle 70- years. By S.Namatbaev. The translation analysis had idenh hed numerous style discrepancies between the original and the translation. The psychological feature of the compasihion were not be hansfered by the translation one the bestand famous story by. V.Shukshin due to distorhion of the style. By the translation of the story “The uncle Ermolai” had full a phisichal aspect of the story, because the translator had distorted the genre specifics. The translation of the stories “Two letters” was wade more qualitative comparated with another stories. Generally, the Namatbaevs translation are a sui generis stage in the translatiobs. We need currently more total and profound perception of the creation by V.Shukshin. The create of the new adeavate translation is the main task. The head of the theory and history of Russian literature department. V. Shukshin’s stories and problems of translation them into Kyrgyz language. This article is analysed the quality of translation of V. Shukshin’s stories, which were written in 70 th with S. Namatbaev. Translation analyse deduced many stylistic variations between translated version and original. There is a misrepresentation, was not transmitted psychological subtleties of the story in translation of one of the best V. Shuk- shin’s story “Wierdo”. Metaphysical dimension is disappeared in translation of the story “Uncle Ermolai”, since translator destort the genre specificity. The translation of the story “Two letters” has been more qualitative in comparison with previous translations. In common, S. Namatbaev’s translation is a genius stage in translation. It needs more full and deep comprehension of S. Shukshin’s work and to establish new suitable translation. Key words: Quality of translation, stylistic variation, psychological subtleties, metaphysical dimension, stage.

Purpose Due to the strong reliance on element quality, there exist some inherent shortcomings of the traditional finite element method (FEM). The model of FEM behaves overly stiff, and the solutions of automated generated linear elements are generally of poor accuracy about especially gradient results. The proposed cell-based smoothed point interpolation method (CS-PIM) aims to improve the results accuracy of the thermoelastic problems via properly softening the overly-stiff stiffness. Design/methodology/approach This novel approach is based on the newly developed G space and weakened weak (w2) formulation, and of which shape functions are created using the point interpolation method and the cell-based gradient smoothing operation is conducted based on the linear triangular background cells. Findings Owing to the property of softened stiffness, the present method can generally achieve better accuracy and higher convergence results (especially for the temperature gradient and thermal stress solutions) than the FEM does by using the simplest linear triangular background cells, which has been examined by extensive numerical studies. Practical implications The CS-PIM is capable of producing more accurate results of temperature gradients as well as thermal stresses with the automated generated and unstructured background cells, which make it a better candidate for solving practical thermoelastic problems. Originality/value It is the first time that the novel CS-PIM was further developed for solving thermoelastic problems, which shows its tremendous potential for practical implications.

Psychology and psychiatry are in a constant search for an adequate model of affective disorders. Psychology has classified depression as a mood disorder, but a growing literature links mental disorders with socioculturally relevant ways in which people experience and express distress. With this study, we link depression with proverbs as omnipresent narrative structures and mini-theories that help people interpret reality and categorize personal experience. Proverbs are omnipresent narrative structures that describe, explain, and prescribe human behavior. Hence, we offer a paremiological approach to better understand the minds of the depressed. Our tenet is that proverbs may also reflect people’s mental states and attitudes by conveying different levels of optimism versus pessimism. We evidence empirically that proverbs convey optimistic and pessimistic attitudes and, thus, have the capacity to capture peoples’ mental states. Moreover, we show that this capacity is limited for people with high depressiveness. Finally, we discuss how proverbial thinking links collective experience and wisdom imprinted in proverbs with an individual’s mental states, which has important research and practical implications.

This study assessed the effects of Methylcellulose (MC) at different concentrations on plant-based meat analog (PBMA) patties, comprised of commercial texture vegetable protein (C-TVP) and textured isolate soy protein (T-ISP) as key ingredients, and compared to beef patty control. A significantly higher difference was observed in moisture content in control with increasing MC concentration than the C-TVP and T-ISP patties. However, protein varied significantly among three different protein sources, with control had higher protein content than PBMA patties. Crude fiber content recorded higher values in C-TVP as compared to control. Significantly lower pH values were recorded in control than C-TVP and T-ISP respectively. Regardless, with the addition of MC or ingredient PBMA and control patties tend to reduce lightness (L*) and redness (a*) value after cooking. Although control sample before cooking exhibits lighter and redder than PBMA patties (C-TVP and T-ISP). Likewise, water holding capacity (WHC) decreases as the concentration of MC increases (1.5–4%) in control and PBMA patties. Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF) and texture profile analysis (TPA), including hardness, chewiness, and gumminess of control, were significantly higher than C-TVP and T-ISP. Consequently, panelists’ in the sensory analysis presented that C-TVP patties containing 3% of MC had better sensory properties than T-ISP. Hence, PBMA patties with C-TVP and incorporation of 3% MC are considered ideal for manufacturing of meat analog as related to control (beef).

Abstract The aim of this study was an attempt to verify whether Polish speakers of English insert a vowel in the word-final clusters containing a consonant and a syllabic /l/ or /n/ due to the L1–L2 transfer. L1 Polish speakers are mostly unaware of the existence of syllabic consonants; hence, they use the Polish phonotactics and articulate a vocalic sound before a final sonorant which is deprived of its syllabicity. This phenomenon was examined among L1 Polish speakers, 1-year students of English studies, and the recording sessions were repeated a year later. Since, over that time, they were instructed with regard to phonetics and phonology but also the overall practical language learning, the results demonstrated the occurrence of the phenomenon of vowel insertion on different levels of advanced command of English. If the vowels were inserted, their quality and length were monitored and analysed. With regard to the English system, pronouncing vowel /ə/ before a syllabic consonant is possible, yet not usual. That is why another aim of this study is to examine to what extent the vowels articulated by the subjects differ from the standard pronunciation of non-final /ə/. The quality differences between the vowels articulated in the words ending with /l/ and /n/ were examined as well as the potential influence from the difference between /l/ and /n/ on the occurrence of vowel reduction. Even though Polish phonotactics permit numerous consonantal combinations in all word positions, it proved to be challenging for L1 Polish speakers to pronounce word-final consonantal clusters containing both syllabic sonorants. This result carries practical implications for the teaching methodology of English phonetics.
