AbstractIn his paper given at the 38th BIALL Annual Study Conference, Derek Law considers the role of libraries and teaching, in particular academic libraries, in the new Web 2.0 world. He considers the needs of the new generation of “digital natives” in terms of the traditional library and questions whether it still has a role to fulfil. He concludes that academic librarians must become fully involved in the digital revolution and embrace new methods of developing their collections.

The paper is devoted to an empirical analysis of the role of the Internet in the everyday reality of Russian youth. The author notes that the unusual speed of the Internet spread in the life of Russian society made the circumstances of growing up of modern young Russians very specific. In fact, they became the first generation of Russian “digital natives”. Growing up in the conditions of the rapid spread of the Internet in society, many of them are used to perceiving the Internet as a natural and inalienable attribute of everyday reality. The author uses materials of secondary data analysis and the data of his sociological research among Russian youth to determine the role of the Internet in the social reality of youth and to find out the possible risks and opportunities that it can create. The empirical basis of the study is a questionnaire survey conducted by the author in 2018 among the youth of the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia. The key conclusion of the article is that the Internet is deeply integrated into the social reality of modern Russian youth. The growing importance of the Internet in life is a source of a number of risks, which include the formation of Internet addiction, increasing the vulnerability of young people to destructive content and the formation of a communicative gap between representatives of different generations. The Internet can also be used to broadcast information to a youth audience, to organize cooperation among young people, to popularize good practices and for other purposes. Keywords: youth, Russian youth, Internet, “digital natives”, Russian society

The text presents the complexity of the educational process taking place during the period of digital transformation and the role of the teacher in the changing didactic reality. The need to modify the existing digital tools adapted to the requirements of modern students was pointed out. The author’s assumption was to draw attention to computer games that can be part of the strategies for creating effective teaching tools tailored to the needs of digital natives. The article presents the features of games that may be key to the effective use of gaming in teaching. It also presents the strategy of educational game design. Despite the research conducted on the use of the potential of computer games in education, this topic still does not seem to be sufficiently exhausted, as exemplified by the teachers’ approach to virtual reality of games, which they mostly treat only as a ludic area.

The newspapers represent an inscription of the historical reality and of the collective memory of a certain space and time. This article discusses the role of digital journalistic productions in the constitution and stabilization of the history of the coup of 1964, in its 50 years, since the digitalization of memories and of journalism bring new configurations for both. The productions of the journalistic sites of two relevant vehicles in the period of the coup and of two digital natives are analysed. The productions conceive, with standard narrative, the coup and military dictatorship as something negative and pernicious for the history of the country, with some complacency to the coup agents by G1 and O Estado de S. Paulo; the exception of this one of São Paulo – in which the individual memories prevailed – , the other three specials issues bring a didactic and historical tone, with chronology, sources and references.
