The increase in indiscipline and school violence, the loss of teacher authority and the lack of civility in young people is worrisome. In order to search and analyse the causes and consequences of these events, this study aims to: 1) identify the features that characterise teachers’ authority according to students’ opinion; 2) determine what type of behaviours these characteristics generate in students; and 3) analyse the possible relationships between teaching authority and citizenship. The data collection instrument is the Teaching Authority and Coexistence Questionnaire, designed and validated by the Research Group on Indiscipline and Violence in Education. The sample consisted of 738 students. The dimensions that are analysed are: teaching competence, exemplary behaviour, personality and attitudes. The findings reveal that students remark the following features regarding their teachers’ authority: 1) their attitudes: they knowhow to relate to students, they participate in activities and they integrate all students, they are interested in all students, they seek harmony and treat each student on a personal level; 2) their mastery of the subject, the use of active methodologies and their interest in increasing students’ knowledge; and 3) the personality of the teachers: they are demanding, self-demanding and impartial. Other aspects students identify include the facts that teachers do not have an exemplary behaviour, they are not fair with their punishments, they do not respect all students and they do not behave as they ask students to behave. The correlations between teaching authority and the attitudes of the students reveal that the characteristics of the teacher influence students’ behaviour, classroom climate and academic performance.

Abstract.Understanding the psychological mechanisms acting in shares of specific violence, such as bullying, constitutes an important step in the educational interventions that promote moral education objectified by educational institutions. In this sense, the current research aimed to relate bullying to representations of self and the ways in which the subject is self regulating to choose justifications for their commitments or moral disengagements in situations where bullying is present. The results indicate that subjects whose self-representations are individualistic also present more morally disengaged and more likely to be perpetrators in bullying situations, showing how little their identities incorporate moral values. It thus appears that more than a social problem, the issues of coexistence should be treated under the moral point of view. Keywords: bullying; self-representations; school violence; ethics; moral disengagements.

One of the factors that determines the current lifestyle is technology, which persistently draws the world into competition for new means and practices. As the subject of these processes, our contemporary not only takes an active part in them, but also reflexes a lot about his/her own impact. Although technology is ambivalent and multivector in its development, the humanitarian role of protecting the history of human experience, as well as creating the updated versions of cultural practices is not alien to it. Inspired by the broad interpretation of the writing practices proposed by J. Derrida, the author of the article shows how important it is for the understanding of technology not to be overloaded with alarmism. Information technologies have a democratizing effect on social life by offering new tools and formats for the writing. In particular, they support on a personal level the freedom of self-realization, while on a public scale — sociocultural diversity and interaction.

Under current conditions, the scientific request for the study of both internal and external factors of socio-psychological safety becomes important. In the literature there are very contradictory data on the role of contextual factors in ensuring the socio-psychological safety of schools. In our work, we consider the role of socio-economic and geographical conditions in ensuring the socio-psychological safety of the educational environment of the school from the standpoint of environmental psychology. Research questions: How does the social and economic status of the region affect the subject level of the school’s socio-psychological safety? How does the type of settlement affect the personal level of the school’s socio-psychological safety? The economic, social, and geographical status of the region affects the socio-psychological safety of the school. Therefore, contextual factors influence, but do not determine the socio-psychological safety of the educational environment of the school. Multilevel approaches, which are intended for individual, psychosocial, and contextual factors, can contribute to the promotion of the theme of the socio-psychological safety of the school.

A methodology is presented for Level 1 and 2 Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessments of process and power piping subject to random vibration loading. The intent is to provide a basis for random vibration assessment based on concepts from spectral fatigue, which is simplified to the degree that a non-specialist can conduct the FFS assessment with little prior knowledge of the subject matter. The proposed Level 1 FFS assessment is based on extension and generalization of established industry screening curves for piping vibration. The measured (overall) RMS vibration level is compared against allowable values given by the curves evaluated at the average crossing frequency of the measured vibration. The proposed Level 2 FFS assessment utilizes an allowable cyclic stress. The allowable stress is a function of the target design life as well as the average crossing frequency and kurtosis of the measured vibration. Both approaches are illustrated by example.

The subject of the paper is the financing of sport, and broadly speaking: physical culture in Poland. This problem is a subject of interest in the context of the role played in its development by the local government units: gminas (NUTS level-5), poviats (NUTS level-4), and voivodships (NUTS level-2). The aim of the study is to assess the relationship between the amount of expenditure incurred from the budgets of local government units at all levels and the number of athletes in sports clubs in the area. This objective also includes the knowledge of spatial differentiation of both categories of research, and therefore the amount of expenditure of local government budgets on physical culture (per capita) and the number of athletes in sports clubs (per 1000 inhabitants). The study covers the entire Poland including territorial-administrative division of gminas, poviats and voivodships. The analysis is based on data from the years 2000 to 2013. The research allowed to classify voivodships in terms of the number of athletes in sports clubs per 1000 inhabitants and spending on development of physical culture (including sport). It enabled the presentation of the spatial structure of the analyzed categories (indicators). For the spatial classification the 3-Means Method has been used.

Abstract. The GOMOS instrument on EnviSat has succesfully demonstrated that a UV/Vis/NIR spaceborne stellar occultation instrument is capable of delivering quality data on the gaseous and particulate composition of Earth's atmosphere. Still, some problems related to data inversion remained to be treated. In the past, it was found that the aerosol extinction profile retrievals in the upper troposphere and stratosphere are of good quality at a reference wavelength of 500 nm, but suffer from anomalous, retrieval-related perturbations at other wavelengths. Identification of algorithmic problems and subsequent improvement was therefore necessary. This work has been carried out; the resulting AerGOM Level 2 retrieval algorithm together with the first data version AerGOMv1.0 forms the subject of this paper. First, a brief overview of the operational IPFv6.01 GOMOS algorithm is given, since the AerGOM algorithm is to a certain extent similar. Then, the discussion on the AerGOM algorithm specifically focuses on the new aspects that were implemented to tackle the aerosol retrieval problems. Finally, a first assess- ment of the obtained aerosol extinction data quality is presented, clearly showing significant improvement of aerosol profile shape, spectral behaviour and similarity to SAGE II data.

The aim of this article is to reflect on education and the school system in the context of authoritarianism and symbolic violence. The subject reflection is based on two mental trails. The first shows that culture justifies symbolic violence at school. The second, however, treats symbolic violence in education as a manifestation of the school’s activity as a total institution.

Motivation is considered as a pivotal component in successful foreign language learning, and has been the subject of increasing research attention in recent decades. This paper collected and reviewed the literature on motivational strategies in the language classroom. The review focusses on studies that investigate the importance student attached to strategies and juxtaposes the findings. The results confirm that motivation is context-dependent, however some strategies – especially those related to teacher behaviour, creating a positive classroom climate, and recognizing students’ efforts – can transfer across contexts, and therefore should be emphasized in future teacher training.
