Itawes Indigenous Foods: Their Health and Socio-Cultural Meaning

The Itawes is one of the indigenous groups of Isabela, Philippines, along withthe Ybanags, Yogads, and Gaddangs. In Cagayan Valley, two groups of Itawes arefound: one from the Province of Cagayan and the other, from Echague, Isabela.This study was conducted to document the indigenous foods of the Itawes thatare gradually vanishing due to the modern way of living or due to acculturation.As the foods slowly disappear, so do the foods’ associated meanings and beliefsattached to them.  Being aware of their indigenous foods would help maintainand create a link or bridge the gap between the Itawes’ past generations to thepresent. The study used the descriptive research method. Triangulation wasutilized using direct participatory approach, in depth interview and a focus groupdiscussion. The foods were documented and the health and social meanings andbeliefs attached to these foods were noted and explained by the elders. Frequencyand percentages were used. The findings showed that Itawes favorite exotic foods were the following: fried “duron”, ‘simmawa”, “utoy” and “talagang”; their dessert, “bahat”, “mang-ga”, “dendelut”, “pinatarak” and “dinuntuan”. TheItawes’ social life and physical health had been closely associated with their foods.Some of their indigenous foods and practices had been consistently confrontedwith the influence of modernization and development that seriously endangertheir traditional cultures or the total obliteration of their culture.Keywords: Social Research, Itawes, indigenous foods, descriptive design, Philippines

Purpose – The presence of Grab has invited many discussions. The purpose of this study is to know the role of Grab on changes in social life in Bengkulu city both in terms of Grab drivers, consumers, and other conventional transportation.Method – This study uses a qualitative approach with an in-depth interview method. The total respondents in this study are 38 people consisting of 5 people from Grab drivers, 30 people from consumers, and five people from conventional transportation.Result – This study found that there were changes in Grab drivers' income, but there were no social changes in Grab drivers. On the other hand, there were social changes in Grab consumers and conventional drivers. Implication – This study can be used by public, government, and private sector to understand better consumer behaviour in online transportation field.Originality – As the growth of online transportation in Indonesia is increasing, this study offers early understanding upon the phenomena.

The new Ozamiz City Public Mall, Philippines has several entrepreneurs whosell  products thus generate income from it. While some of the store ownersluckily make profit, a number of them fail to manage their business venture.  Itis in this premise that the researcher is pushed to study why these entrepreneurswere not as successful as the others. Specifically, this paper aimed to determine theentrepreneurial competencies of the SME operators of Ozamiz City Public mall,Philippines.  This study was limited only to 100 College level SME operators. The entrepreneurial competencies were measured in terms of Time Managementskills, Marketing Management skills, Technical skills and Financial Managementskills.  This study used the descriptive research method in determining theentrepreneurial competencies of the SME business operators and gathered datathrough a standardized questionnaire. The findings revealed that out of fourteenareas of the SME operators of Ozamiz Public Mall, Philippines, nine areas werefound to have high competencies in terms of Time Management skills, FinancialManagement skills, Marketing Management skills and Technical skills. On the other hand, six out of fourteen were found to have Moderate competenciesonly. Therefore, these individuals will be the recipients of the extension programdesigned by the researcher so that they will be able to have a competitive edgeover the other SME operators.Keywords: Business, Entrepreneurial Competencies, descriptive research method,Philippines

Da'wah can be done with various strategies according to the state of mad'u. Management in the organization is structured in such a way that da'wah activities run well and according to purpose. The Qur'an Tafsir Council (MTA) is one of the da'wah institutions that carry out its da'wah with various methods, one of which is through television media among other da'wah media. MTA TV presents various da'wah programs in accordance with the vision of the MTA institution. The purpose of this study is to see how the MTA propaganda strategy through television is also side by side with other media. The author uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The findings of this study indicate that MTA through MTA TV can carry out their da'wah effectively because they are able to reach a wider audience. MTA TV is also able to adapt to the times so that this channel can survive, in addition to utilizing social networks that are in great demand by the public. However, on the other hand, the audience of listeners is still limited among Muslims who are members of this da'wah institution and the variety of programs is not so diverse.

Education must be carried out for it provides services for all people. Thus, Indonesian government conducts various policies. One of them is child-friendly city. This article has a purpose to explain the other side of education which facilitated Bukittinggi as one of child-friendly city in Indonesia. This research was carried out at PKBM Kasih Bundo, Bukittinggi. The research method is descriptive research. The research findings reflect some activities done by PKBM Kasih Bundo Bukittinggi in realizing Bukittinggi as child-friendly citiey, namely 1) organizing alternatives education, 2) services of child victim of human trafficking, 3) services of child victims of drugs and sex violence, and 4) services for children deviant behavior.

The construction of the hotel that was opposed by the users of water resource triggered the emergence of social movement. While inititating movement, they initiated the programs of community empowerment as well. It means that the community empowerment is one of strategies of movement. Then, besides focusing on cultural activities, the other activities are the optimization of youth potentials and the care about community activities. In this context, the ecological cultural is joined by the other community interests. This strategy is effective because the empowerment stimulated the development of social network and local culture. The critic of this empowerment is culture is not a central of activities. The culture is still used as instrument for the conservation of environment. This stance is always questioned and criticized by the environmental and cultural activists in Malang Town. This article will describe the model of cultural ecological empowerment in Batu City that is described from the emergence of community empowerment, the forms of the community empowerment, the form of social changes after interventions, and the strengths and weaknesses of this empowerment. This article utilized the descriptive research method with ethnographical approach. Meanwhile, the used sampling is purposive sampling with eight subjects of research are activists of Nawakalam Gemulo, community based organization in Cangar Hamlet, Bulukerto Village, Batu City.

The objective of this research to discover character value in playing football from a youth perspective in nighborhood football team. The research method approach exerts qualitative and ethnographic. The method is implied because the research intends to find out character value in football playing based on community perspective in nighborhood football group. The data are gathered with an in-depth interview. Sample are selected through purposive technique. The result is probed meticulously through triangulation technique and triangulation sources. The result shows that playing football has numerous value in creating character including teamwork, honesty, responsibility, role in society, and Sportif value. The other is playing football have social capital value because football match creating social networking, trusting, solidarity, mutual assisting and social connection among the member in group or group of a competitor. The other is to vanish some of the ailment such as heart attack, obesity, abolish the rate of human stress, and lung ailment. Lastly, it can improve the prosperity of societies around because the community have the opportunity to trade some of the meal and drink when the football is conducted

For centuries multiculturalism has been part and parcel of Minangkabau tradition. It colours and shapes every aspect of life of the Minangkabau society. This study attempts to explore how members of an Aisyiah Padang Branch Majelis Ta’lim view multicularism and how they reflect it in turn in social life. Multiculturalism in this study is defined limitedly as a religious group’s view over the existence of the other religious schools and the different religious groups. It is important therefore to examine in more details the Aisyiah Majelis Ta’lim members’ perspective over the existence of different religious schools and different religious groups.  Based on this analysis, it is also urgent to disclose how the members tolerate and pay due respect to those different religious schools and different religious groups. Finally, the study seeks to elaborate the members’ attitude in building interaction and cooperation in social life among different religious schools and different religious groups. Qualitative approach is used in this research, data is mainly collected through depth interview with members of the Aisyiah Majelis Ta’lim. This research shows that, according to the Aisyiah Mejelis Ta’lim members, differences in religious interpretations and religious groupings are inevitably very natural.  While doing their best to always defend carefully their own interpretation and belief, in social life they feel welcome to those different groups. In their opinion, differences in religious interpretations and groupings must always be tolerated and respected. Interaction and cooperation among different religious schools and religious groupings in social life, according to the members, is also necessary.

Planning and budgeting is a part which cannot be seperated from the proccess of government financial management. Need for integrity against a schedule of planning and budgeting Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Daerah (APBD), linkages planning document that one against the other, as well as effective and efficient local government solutions to constrains in the planning and budgeting of the previous fiscal year APBD to be implemented in the next fiscal year. Badan Keuangan Kabupaten Kepulauan Sangihe is a functional government part that has the task of carrying out the affairs of local governance best on the principle of autonomy and helper task in the areas of income, asset and financial management areas, so that the operations of the system of government financial arrangements in particular regions can be run well. The purpose of this research was to determine whether the proccess of planning and budgeting for Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Daerah (APBD) on Badan Keuangan Kabupaten Sangihe fiscal year 2015 is in compliance with Permendagri Nomor 13 Tahun 2006.This research uses descriptive research method. The research results showed of 14 steps, 1 of which shows the time and discrepancy functions according to Permendagri Nomor 13 Tahun 2006.    Keywords : Planning, Budgeting, Regional Expenditure

The purpose of this research to expose the communication process skinhead community in Sidoarjo. This group decision making was to achieve destination and develop a community of Sidoarjo to be skinhead better in solidarity between members. This research used descriptive research method and the type of research was qualitative in-depth interview with data analysis process through three phases namely data reduction, the presentation of the data, the withdrawal of the conclusion. The results of this study indicated that members of the community who always did the Sidoarjo skinhead activities with shared together-especially in decision making towards the group. In this community of skinhead Sidoarjo used horizontal communication. The community of skinhead Sidoarjo had no formal structure, they prefer to be considered all the members have the same social status. Decision making groups of skinhead Sidoarjo used deliberation. Although each group in the decision-making process of deliberation, but also ask for opinions from the more senior or elderly women in community skinhead Sidoarjo.

Education is one of the basic things tha must be obtaned by citizen in every country. This research is motivated by there are complaints from parents who do not have time to prepare food for their children who attend school too late in the morning. However, there are students or teachers who come late and don’t break the rules. The purpose of this research is to analyze the implementation of regent regulations related to school hours rules. The theory used in this research is the theory of Edward III which includes communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. The research method use is descriptive research reluctant to use qualitative approach. The data collection technique is direct observation, in-depth interview, library study, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The result of the study show that the policy of school hours at 06.00 is not appropriate to be implemented. Therefore, some improvements are needed regarding the policy regulations.
