ABSTRACT One of the problems affecting the quality of urban trees is their infestation by mistletoes (aerial hemiparasite plants of the order Santalales). Identification of the main types of trees infested, and of the causes of infestation patterns, can help infestation control and the planning of efficient planting regimes. In this sense, the aim of this study was to evaluate the patterns of hemiparasite infestation in trees in an Amazonian urban environment. We aimed to answer (1) which species of mistletoes occur on urban trees in the city of Santarém, in the Brazilian Amazon; (2) what is the proportion and intensity of infestation on infected trees; and (3) if differences in infestation rates among tree species can be explained by mistletoe-tree compatibility. We assessed mistletoe incidence and intensity of infestation on trees in the main avenues of the city. To evaluate the role of mistletoe-tree compatibility in the observed parasitism patterns, we carried out a seed inoculation experiment with seeds of the most abundant mistletoe, Passovia theloneura. Seeds were planted on three tree species (Andira inermis, Handroanthus serratifolius, and Mangifera indica). The overall infestation rate was 19.3%, with exotic tree species more infested than natives. The experiment showed that incompatibility between P. theloneura and the native H. serratifolius is primarily responsible for the observed non-infestation. Mistletoes germinated on A. inermis grew better than those on M. indica, contrary to the infestation prevalence found in the field, suggesting that patterns of infestation are also influenced by seed deposition processes.

Objectives: Research has shown that children who experience abuse and neglect are at much higher risk of experiencing negative outcomes such as physical and mental health problems, social skill deficits, and poor quality of life. The goal of this paper was to examine the relationship between polyvictimization and risk of harm to self and others, taking into account both age and sex differences. Methods: A total of 8980 participants (4156 with maltreatment history) were recruited from over 50 mental health facilities in Ontario, Canada. Group comparisons were completed to examine types of trauma experienced, and risk of harm to self and others. Results: Among our sample, we found that 29% of children and youth had experienced multiple types of interpersonal trauma. We also found that while female children and youth who had experienced trauma were at greater risk of harm to themselves, males were at greater risk of harming others. Further, our results highlight that children and youth who had experienced multiple types of maltreatment, regardless of age or sex, were at the greatest risk of harm to self and others. Implications: Findings from this research highlight that interpersonal trauma is multifaceted and add to existing evidence that there is a cumulative relationship between experiencing multiple types of maltreatment and risk in relation to harming oneself or others. Our findings underscore the importance of a background assessment that takes into account all forms of maltreatment in order to properly understand risk of harm and inform intervention.

AbstractLong-standing atrial fibrillation is associated with significant morbidity including stroke and development of heart failure. Patients also report poor quality of life as a result of debilitating symptoms or treatment side effects from antiarrhythmic medications. Radio frequency or cryothermal mediated catheter ablation has a central role in the management of symptomatic patients with paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation. Circumferential pulmonary vein isolation is vital to the success of this therapy and other ancillary techniques have been described, especially for persistent atrial fibrillation. Several randomized controlled studies have been reported over the last two decades studying important clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation. In this article, we aim to provide a review of the major studies that have helped define the role of catheter ablation in the management of symptomatic atrial fibrillation in patients with both diseased and structurally normal hearts.

The role of legislation has always been misunderstood. Whenever there is legislation, the universal public perspective will be that it is connected and related to sanction and long and unclear sentences. Law in built environment and global change is about control and manage the quality and standard of life. The role of legislation is to assist a better quality of life and secure the same for the future generation. If no legislation to sustain the same meaning of quality, especially in the Asian communities how does the behavior be condoned. Hence role of legislation is maintaining fairness, in a community.

815 Background: The National Cancer Institute defines palliative care as care given to improve the quality of life (QOL) for patients with life threatening diseases. The role of palliative care (PC) within oncology is ever evolving and as more studies are being conducted, its role in the improvement of QOL for patients is being widely recognized. Patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) are at a higher risk for morbidity and mortality and often have severe post-operative symptoms that can worsen their QOL. Here we studied the factors affecting PC consult in order to better overcome them. Methods: We queried our Electronic Medical Record EPIC for a list of patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC or HITEC in the hospital from April 2016-April 2019. Data was manually extracted and patients who didn’t meet our criteria were excluded. Patients were divided on the basis of palliative care consults and differences between the groups were analyzed. Odds ratios(OR) with p-value 0.05 and confidence interval (CI) 95% were calculated. Results: We identified 55 patients of whom 34 met our inclusion criteria, 11 male and 23 female with an average age of 56.3 years at the time of diagnosis. 8 patients (23%) had PC; more than 1 comorbidity and age > 40 was associated with a higher likelihood of PC (OR:0.12; CI:0.02-0.76; p:0.02) and (OR: 0.015; CI: 0.0007-0.3029; P: 0.006) respectively. Gender, insurance type and marital status did not corelate with PC. Mean age (58.1 vs 55.7) showed a trend towards higher rates of PC in older population. Conclusions: Approximately one quarter of patients undergoing CRS with HIPEC had a concurrent PC consult. Though this is better than the national average of 11-16%, it continues to be a very small number. PC is not only an end of life service, in fact studies have shown early consultations lead to higher patient satisfaction, improved QOL and better communication. Efforts must be made to engage PC early in the course of treatment and recognize it as an integral part of cancer care.

AbstractStandards for quality control as defined in the European Pharmacopoeia contribute significantly to a consistent and high quality of herbal drugs, herbal drug preparations, and herbal medicinal products. The minimum content of single plant constituents is considered of high relevance. Therefore, nearly all monographs on herbal drugs or herbal drug preparations contain an obligatory assay. However, a critical evaluation of the data published for such assayed constituents reveals that in most cases these constituents have to be considered as purely analytical markers without correlation to quality or efficacy. Examples where the assay does not meet its objective support the need to adapt current quality standards. Moreover, the trend to increase the content of certain constituents may lead to significant modifications to traditional manufacturing processes. In order to initiate a scientific discussion, the role of the assay in the context of quality requirements, quality documentation in the manufacturing process, safety, and efficacy is discussed and possible alternatives to the single marker assay are examined.
