Abstract The use of natural materials that is eco-friendly on leather as vegetable tannins has become a matter of significant importance, as a result of increased environmental awareness to prevent some hazardous synthetic tannin. Therefore, this study investigated that the potential of the extracted tannin from Sodom apple (Solanum Incanum) fruit for its effectiveness as vegetable tanning agent on goatskins. It was extracted with distilled water, methanol, petroleum ether and ethanol by using Soxhlet extraction method. Although the amount of material extracted was significant in all extracting solvents, water was a more efficient solvent (extraction yield of 16.71%) than the others. The qualitative analysis and structural characterization of the extracts were done using thin layer chromatography (TLC), Ultraviolet (UV) spectrometer and Fourier Transformer Infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer. The analysis confirmed that the presence of condensed tannins in the extract, which usually used for the application of tanning process in leather manufacturing industry. On other hand, the Quantitative Analysis of Sodom apple fruit extract was conducted by evaluating its moisture content (7.59%), total soluble solids (21.45%), tannin content (12.13%) and non-tannin contents (9.32%). The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was carried out to study the effect of the tannin system on the structural and morphological characteristics of the tanned leathers. Similarly, the organoleptic and strength properties of the tanned leathers were evaluated in comparison with the control ones. Finally, the pollution loads of tanning liquors in Sodom apple tanning significantly reduced as compared with the control (mimosa). Thus, the results in this study showed that the manufacture of leather based on Sodom apple fruit extract found to be a cleaner alterative and promising pathway for tanning goatskins.

Inventory of spent engine oil continuously increase and indiscriminately disposed of at auto-mechanics garages. Adsorptive separation established to be indispensable in recovery of these hydrocarbons was carried out using Chrysophyllum albidum (African star apple) fruit shell – a renewable resource. In this study, clay pretreated spent engine oil was recovered in a fixed bed adsorption processes and the recovered adsorbate components determined by GC-MS analysis. The results showed African star apple fruit shell adsorbent effective in recovering n-hexane solubilized spent lubricating oil. The study concluded that using the developed African star apple fruit shell adsorbent, an agricultural waste adsorbent in the recovery of waste lubricating oil will enhance greatly the nation’s economy.

Keyword : Radikal bebas, DPPH, Ekstrak buah kiwi, Ekstrak buah apel Free radicals will be dangerous if the ROS concentration will increase and causes oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is usually caused by high concentrations of free radicals in cells and tissues which can be induced by several negative factors such as gamma, UV, X-ray radiation, psycho-emotional pressure and contaminated food. To minimize free radicals in the body natural antioxidants such as kiwi fruit extract and apple extract. The antioxidant activity test on each extract was carried out by the DPPH method (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrihydazyl). The results showed that IC50 value of kiwi fruit extract was lower than IC50 of apple fruit extract. This shows that kiwi fruit extract has stronger antioxidant activity than apple extract. Keyword : free radicals, DPPH, kiwi fruit extract, apple fruit extract

As the development time of usage and utilization of traditional medicine in Indonesia is experiencing a very rapid progress. Interest of the community to utilize natural materials back to health is greatly improved. Apple or (pyrusmalus) is one among the faforit fruit in the family rosaceae or rose-mawaran. Apple plants allegedly came from around israel-Palestine, then spread throughout the world, including indonesia. Europe and Australia is the country’s most used to develop crop of apples in agribusiness. Apples contain a natural anti oxidant which is great for the health of the skin and eyes. This research uses research methods laboratory ekperimental Soap to be created with a penembahan extract of apples made with olive oil. Apple fruit is extracted by means of maceration using penyari ethanol. Ethanol extract of Apple made in the form of solid bath soaps and bath soaps performed the examination test includes solid Favorites, pH, testing methods and solid bath Soap Irritation Test made with a concentration of 2.5%, 3.5%, 4.5%. The results of the test checks gladness solid bath Soap preparations obtained are really like 13 people, like 4 people, 3 people and less like don’t like 0, pH 8.3-7.3, on the test of irritation in the preparations of solid bath SOAP from Apple fruit extracts do not cause skin redness and itching. The conclusion of the researchers extract of apples (Malusdomsticus) can be formulated in the form of preparation of solid bath Soap. The advice of researchers is expected for the next researcher to be able to formulate the Apple fruit extract (Malusdomesticus) in the form of other preparations, such as face masks.
