This paper presents a simple yet efficient control method for active power filters that can be used to improve power quality. Applying this method can open the way towards limiting the hardware and computational expenditure, which are needed for control of the active filter, while maintaining its required performance. The method is based on the indirect approach of obtaining reference signals combined with the closed-loop current control technique. Monitoring of changes of energy stored in reactance elements of the active filter is the base for obtaining reference signals for compensation. The active filter can perform classical compensation and, additionally, can perform some extra functionality for managing of active power in the system. In particular, it can stabilize the supplying source power, enable energy exchange between loads connected on DC and AC sides of the active filter, and—in a case of generating loads—enable their energy storage and redistribution amongst consuming loads. The presented method can be useful for voltage-source as current-source inverter based active filters, and for DC systems as well as for AC single- or three-phase ones.

In accordance with the Energy Strategy until 2035, the possibility of increasing the efficiency of energy use of secondary energy resources in the form of associated oil and waste gases has been substantiated by increasing the energy efficiency of the primary energy carrier to 90-95 % by means of cogeneration plants with a binary cycle of electricity generation and trigeneration systems with using the energy of the waste gas to cool the air flow at the inlet of gas turbine plants. The conditions for maintaining the rated power of the main generator with variations in the ambient temperature are shown. An effective topology of electrical complexes in a multi-connected power supply system of oil and gas enterprises according to the reliability condition is presented, which allows increasing the availability factor by 0.6 %, mean time between failures by 33 %, the probability of failure-free operation by 15 % and reducing the mean time of system recovery by 40 %. The article considers the use of parallel active filters to improve the quality of electricity and reduce voltage drops to 0.1 s when used in autonomous electrical complexes of oil and gas enterprises. The possibility of providing uninterrupted power supply when using thyristor systems for automatic reserve input has been proven. A comparative analysis was carried out to assess the effect of parallel active filters and thyristor systems of automatic transfer of reserve on the main indicators of the reliability of power supply systems of oil and gas enterprises.

Four-leg active power filter is considered one of the greatest vital active filters that are frequently used in industrial applications, especially those that need to be controlled in each individual phase. Also, to control the neutral current that created because of a lot of unbalanced and non-linear loads. In this paper, the used active filter was controlled by a proposed control method which can achieve simplicity and intelligence at the same time. The novelty of this paper is using the proposed controller with Four-leg active power filter. This controller relies on instantaneous reactive power theory, which used to create the required currents that are injected into the network via the used active filter to remove the problems created by unbalanced and non-linear loads. It is also maintained that the current source a pure sinusoidal wave. The system is implemented on MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results proved the preference of the proposed controller than the conventional proportional-integration controller, where it reduced the percentage of total harmonic distortion for the current source.

An adaptive phase-locked loop is considered, which makes it possible to improve the stability of synchronous active filters, to achieve compensation for high-quality harmonic components of the current consumed by autonomous objects. Therefore, the use of such an active filter will improve the power quality and the normal trouble-free operation of the equipment in general. A control system with an adaptive phase-locked loop often has the advantages of a reliable and efficient control system. It makes it possible to quickly respond to dynamic changes in the load, which is typical for the operation of functional equipment of autonomous objects. The control system becomes more flexible, reliable, efficient and provides an instantaneous value of the compensation current from the measured values of the load current curve. Calculations can be carried out in real time. LMS, NLMS, RLS algorithms are considered as adjusting the weighted adaptive phase-locked loop in the system for correcting the supply voltage parameters. Based on the simulation of algorithms carried out in the MATLAB environment, a comparative analysis of their effectiveness is made. It is shown that the NLMS algorithm has the highest suppression quality and minimum transient time. The NLMS algorithm works in real time and is recommended for use in the supply voltage correction system.

High-Q filters are a critical component in many systems. However, high-Q filters require very low-loss passive elements that are not compatible with monolithic technology. Therefore, filters are often implemented as off-chip components. Tunable high-Q filters require even larger space and weight, and are usually quite bulky. Active filters have been proposed in the past for a monolithic implementation. However, it is not easy to fulfil such requirements as a high dynamic range, low power consumption, low noise, wide tunability, stability, etc. With this study, we propose a survey of the main solutions presented in the literature, investigating the fulfilment of all or most requirements and their potential applications and feasibility, to be used in practical applications.

Electrocardiograms (ECGs) are a method of assessment of cardiac electrical activity. It is the heart’s electrophysiological activity which occurs by the conduction of electrical impulses from the Sinoatrial (SA) node and the Atrioventricular (AV) node across the cardiac muscles and is displayed as a voltage-time graph. Conventionally, they have been acquired using a system of ten surface electrodes placed in different locations throughout the body in a 12-lead system. Single Arm ECG systems, where the ECG rhythm is obtained from only a single part of the body, replace the need for ten different electrodes to detect the heart's activity. Three pre-gelled electrodes are applied in different locations of the left arm to derive the sinus rhythm signal of a subject. An op-amp based hardware instrument has been developed for this purpose with active filters and amplifiers to perform signal conditioning. This paper demonstrates the implementation of a single arm hardware system of small size to improve portability, used as an ECG detection method and the results from various subjects taken at different gain values to improve the view of the signal, while also presenting a method to transmit the data of the signals wirelessly through an Internet-of-things (IoT) platform.
