Invective is a woman. Sociolinguistic determinants of verbal aggressiveness on protest signs from the 2020 Women’s Strike protests in Poland. The article provides an outline of the sociolinguistic, cultural and linguistic determinants of the use of colloquialisms in the modern Polish language. 37 protest signs from the 2020 Women’s Strike in Poland with an invective meaning semantically related to specific people and organizations were analyzed. In order to analyze the similarities and differences between the presented examples, the semantic field method was used. Based on the specific characteristics of the analyzed expressions, 13 semantic microfields were distinguished. The innovativeness of the study consists in looking at the invective not only as an example of using verbal aggressiveness, but also as a peculiar wordplay which, paradoxically, may facilitate communication and relieve tension. Inheritance and development of national elements in contemporary Chinese, American and Russian oil paintings

When speaking of semiosis of the visual art it is worth noting that it can be considered also in the aspect of semantics, which studies relation of sign elements to the world. Semantic side of an image is related to theory of art content, meaning of creation, spirituality, in particular, the symbol theory. Together with forming the idea of painting as a source of literature data and accordingly understanding of a painting in traditional literature paradigm as source of learning the outside world. The authors of the article demonstrate solidarity of oil painting in the stylistic understanding of the integrity of the image perception through the method of knowledge. In particular, the connection between figurativeness and semeiotics, which arises in the process of painting learning on the basis of literature researching and forming of artistic taste. In the article, it is shown that development of figurativeness in art should be based on art methods, in which literature is defined. Authors clarify that this is the main difference between Chinese painting and similar cultural forms. Practical application of research may be: to form educational programs and develop in integral image of artistic development.

A Systematic Review of The Semantic Vigilance Literature

The present study sought to review and summarize the extant literature on semantic vigilance, or lexical vigilance, to benchmark the performance, stress, and workload associated with such tasks. This review also seeks to better define and describe semantic vigilance in relation to the vigilance taxonomy (Parasuraman & Davies, 1977; Parasuraman, Warm, & Dember, 1987). In a database search, 5499 records were identified. After removing duplicates and screening articles based on the inclusion criteria, 8 full-text articles on semantic vigilance were retained for further analysis. The results of this review indicated that semantic vigilance tasks, while short in length, reliably produce a traditional vigilance decrement that is associated with high workload and low stress state scores. While a nascent field of research, this review identified several gaps within the field including limitations in participant selection and inclusion, a lack of application to real world semantic vigilance tasks, and limited variability in the stimuli used for measuring semantic vigilance performance over time.

How Far are We from Effective Context Modeling? An Exploratory Study on Semantic Parsing in Context

Recently semantic parsing in context has received a considerable attention, which is challenging since there are complex contextual phenomena. Previous works verified their proposed methods in limited scenarios, which motivates us to conduct an exploratory study on context modeling methods under real-world semantic parsing in context. We present a grammar-based decoding semantic parser and adapt typical context modeling methods on top of it. We evaluate 13 context modeling methods on two large complex cross-domain datasets, and our best model achieves state-of-the-art performances on both datasets with significant improvements. Furthermore, we summarize the most frequent contextual phenomena, with a fine-grained analysis on representative models, which may shed light on potential research directions. Serverless GEO Labels for the Semantic Sensor Web

As the amount of sensor data made available online increases, it becomes more difficult for users to identify useful datasets. Semantic web technologies improve discovery with meaningful ontologies, but the decision of suitability remains with the users. The GEO label provides a visual summary of the standardised metadata to aid users in this process. This work presents novel rules for deriving the information for the GEO label's multiple facets, such as user feedback or quality information, based on the Semantic Sensor Network Ontology and related ontologies. It enhances an existing implementation of the GEO label API to generate labels for resources of the Semantic Sensor Web. The prototype is deployed to serverless cloud infrastructures. We find that serverless GEO label generation is capable of handling two evaluation scenarios for concurrent users and burst generation. More real-world semantic sensor descriptions and an integration into large scale discovery platforms are needed to develop the presented solutions further.

SUSILO BAMBANG YUDHOYONO’S SPEECH THE ROLE OF THE MILITARY IN CHANGING THE WORLD: SEMANTIC ANALYSIS

Semantic is a branch of linguistics that is focused on the meaning of being used by almost of all people in conveying particular communication purpose. Such in the context of speech, people are tend to choose particular diction or language which may bring different sense or meaning to the hearer. It is thus necessary to study the meaning semantically for preventing misunderstandings in interpreting the meaning. So then this study explored the used of semantic meaning in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyo’s speech entitled “The Role of Military in a Changing World”. This study focused on associative meaning and conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The researcher found that there are 131 utterances in SBY’s speech categorized as associative meaning. The results of this study indicate that the associative meaning in SBY’s speech can be realized through contrastive concept and considering the context it used. Furthermore, it is found that the frequently type of associative meaning used in SBY’s speech was affective meaning in amount of 44%.

Teaching Semantic Ethnography to Architecture Students

Learning about human behavior, cultural diversity, and user perspectives are all part of the NAAB-required curriculum for educating architects. Beyond that, these skills help architects compete in a global and diverse world. Semantic ethnography offers a method for understanding the user perspective in cultural settings. We present a research and design project centered on semantic ethnography as a way to teach architecture students about how to design for user groups. A survey administered to two years of students indicates that this project is indeed helpful for teaching students about how to find and listen to the user perspective.

On the Computational Character of Semantic Structures

Logical form in logic and logical form (LF) in the Minimalist architecture of language are two different forms of representational models of semantic facts. They are distinct in their form and in how they represent some natural language phenomena. This paper aims to argue that the differences between logical form and LF have profound implications for the question about the nature of semantic interpretation. First, this can tell us whether semantic interpretation is computational and if so, in what sense. Second, this can also shed light on the ontology of semantic interpretation in the sense that the forms (that is, logical form and LF) in which semantic facts are expressed may also uncover where in the world semantic interpretation as such can be located. This can have surprising repercussions for reasoning in natural language as ell.
