We researched the influence of damage accumulation on the Poisson's ratio measured by echo-pulse acoustic method during plastic deformation of 12Kh18N10T steel. On the basis of the obtained experimental data we calculated the partial contributions to the change in the Poisson's ratio of damage accumulation and separation of the strain induced martensite phase. The characteristics of stable cracks forming near strain martensite particles at small degrees of plastic strain have been analyzed by computer simulation. The theoretical dependence of the change in the Poisson's ratio due to crack formation during plastic deformation has been constructed. A good agreement between the experimental data and theoretical calculations has been obtained.

Kinetics of accumulation of damages in engineering objects, which work at repeated-alternating soft and hard modes of loading of details and elements of constructions of vehicles (cars, cars, railway transport, etc.). When changing the direction of the load force to the opposite in the structural material there is a phenomenon of changing the kinetics of accumulation of damage, ie the damage factor at separation and shear changes, which affects the effective stresses and service life of equipment. This effect of the factor of the influence of repeated variables on the redistribution of the kinetics of damage accumulation is considered experimentally for materials with different plastic properties

The novel destructive method is implemented for quantitative assessment of fatigue damage accumulation in the stress concentration zone accompanied by residual stress due to cold expansion of the through-thickness hole. Damage accumulation is reached by preliminary cyclic loading of plane specimens with cold-expanded holes. Narrow notches, emanating from the hole edge at different stages of high-cycle fatigue, serve to manifest a damage level. These notches are inserted without applying external load. Deformation response to local material removing, caused by pure residual stress influence, is measured by electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) in terms of in-plane displacement components. Normalized values of the notch mouth open displacement (NMOD), in-plane displacement component at the initial point of the notch acting in the notch direction (U0), in-plane displacement component at the final point of the notch acting in the notch direction (U1) and the stress intensity factor (SIF) are used as current damage indicators. Numerical integration of curves, describing an evolution of each fracture mechanics parameter over lifetime, produces the damage accumulation function in an explicit form. It is established that all four fracture mechanics parameters give very close results.

Statement of the problem. In the current study we look at the change in the elastic-strength performance and kinetics of damage accumulation in epoxy polymers under tensile loads in the control state and after full-scale climatic exposure during one calendar year were studied. Damage accumulation kinetics was calculated based on the author's method using methods of fractal analysis of deformation curves for polymer materials samples under tension. Results. We proposed specific index θ to quantify the total number of damages per unit of strength where its accumulation leads to the destruction of polymers. The dependences have been obtained that describe the relationship between specific index θ and tensile strength of epoxy polymers. Consclusion. The study has shown that the Etal-247 epoxy resin-based polymer cured with Etal-1440 amine hardener has the most stable properties under the full-scale climatic exposure.

Purpose Rolling bearings often cause engineering accidents due to early fatigue failure. The study of early fatigue failure mechanism and fatigue life prediction does not consider the integrity of the bearing surface. The purpose of this paper is to find new rolling contact fatigue (RCF) life model of rolling bearing. Design/methodology/approach An elastic-plastic finite element (FE) fatigue damage accumulation model based on continuous damage mechanics is established. Surface roughness, surface residual stress and surface hardness of bearing rollers are considered. The fatigue damage and cumulative plastic strain during RCF process are obtained. Mechanism of early fatigue failure of the bearing is studied. RCF life of the bearing under different surface roughness, hardness and residual stress is predicted. Findings To obtain a more accurate calculation result of bearing fatigue life, the bearing surface integrity parameters should be considered and the elastic-plastic FE fatigue damage accumulation model should be used. There exist the optimal surface parameters corresponding to the maximum RCF life. Originality/value The elastic-plastic FE fatigue damage accumulation model can be used to obtain the optimized surface integrity parameters in the design stage of bearing and is helpful for promote the development of RCF theory of rolling bearing.

Aging of composites is a pervasive problem that leads to mechanical properties degradation, reduced design life of a structure and premature accidental failure. The work is devoted to an experimental study of the preliminary temperature aging effect on the residual mechanical properties of structural CFRP. The joint use of test systems and systems for registration and analysis of acoustic emission signals was applied. The Short Beam Shear Test of CFRP specimens were carried out using the short beam method. The tests were carried out on universal electromechanical systems Instron 5882 and Instron 5965 in accordance with the recommendations of ASTM D2344. In the process of loading the samples were continuously recorded by using the acoustic emission signals system AMSY-6. A piezoelectric sensor with a frequency range of 300-800 kHz was used. The test and diagnostic systems were synchronized during the tests. In the course of the work the values of the interlayer shear strength were determined for the samples of CFRP. Typical types of the sample destruction are illustrated. When analyzing the change in the mechanical properties of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic from a temperature increase the critical values of temperatures were established in which a sharp decline in the strength and elastic characteristics of materials occurs due to an active destruction of the binder. The graphs of the energy parameter dependence and frequency characteristics of acoustic emission signals on time have been constructed and analyzed. The estimate of the processes of damage accumulation in composites is carried out. The change of the damage accumulation mechanisms was illustrated. The obtained results illustrate the effect of elevated temperatures and the duration of their impact on the mechanical behavior of structural CFRP specimens during the static tests for the interlayer shear.
