Seven subfamilies of Darwin wasps (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae), Banchinae, Cryptinae, Orthocentrinae, Pherhombinae, Stilbopinae, Townesitinae and Tryphoninae in Baltic amber are reviewed. Two species, Rovenosa alexrasnitsyni Manukyan, sp. nov. and R. khalaimi Manukyan, sp. nov. (Stilbopinae) are described as new to science. The male of Rovenosa rasnitsyni Khalaim, 2011 is recorded and described for the first time. The discovery of the puparium of an aphidophagous syrphid fly (Diptera: Syrphidae) with an emergence hole characteristic for Diplazontinae is the first fossil evidence of the subfamily. The strong bias in composition of the Ichneumonidae fauna in Baltic amber is noted. The presence of certain taxa in amber is suggested to be primarily due to specific properties of the pine resin, and only secondarily due to their occurrence in the “amber” forest.

Abstract This research aims to formulate a strategy for developing the pine resin for forest farmer groups community forest (KTH HKM). The location of this research is in Cenrana Baru Village, Cenrana Distric, Maros Regency. The number of respondents was 30 people, consist of 15 tapping farmers, one person from a non-government organization, 2 persons from community leaders and head of farmer group community. Data analysis is conducted descriptively and by using Analytical hierarchy Process (AHP). The results show that the partnership between wiretapping and wire transfer is a pattern of agribusiness between the wire company and the village head without involving KTH HKM. The partnership pattern that needs to be developed in reprocessing at the HKM area is a sub-contract pattern by KTH against sad-workers and pine gum entrepreneurs. The formulation of the strategy for developing a partnership pattern for pine resin tapping is assistance, human resource development and business management.

Cueva de la Huachizca is located in the humid forests of the Municipio of Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán. During the Postclassic period (1300−1520 ad), Santa Clara del Cobre was a part of the Tarascan Señorio. Ethnographic accounts describe the use of Cueva de la Huachizca as a place of refuge during the Cristero Rebellion (1921−1926). Recent investigations suggest a long history of use including graffiti and inscriptions from the 1800s–1900s and a rock art panel. The panel consists of pecked petroglyphs depicting a man facing an eagle, above a spiral motif. Stylistic analysis of the panel suggests that the rock art was created during pre-Hispanic times, likely by the Postclassic Tarascans. As observed in several regions of Mesoamerica, for the Tarascans, caves were also liminal spaces and had an important role in Postclassic Tarascan cosmology. A ceramic resinera, a pine resin pot, an eagle’s feather, and charcoal were also recovered. The resinera age was estimated by researchers at Archaeomagnetic Services, Geophysics Institute at the National Autonomous University of México-Campus Morelia, Michoacán to between 1921 and 1980. Ethnographic and ethnohistoric accounts describe caves as houses of fertility and rain deities, an idea that while slightly transformed, has survived over 500 years of colonization, and remains in the communities’ social memories. These findings demonstrate the cave’s significance among the descendent communities and Cueva de la Huachizca as an important sacred site.

Pine resin production is influenced by several factors, including altitudes and the different classes of age . In addition, the productivity of pine resin is also influenced by weather and climate. The aim of  study that entitled oductivity of Resin Pinus Merkusii Jungh Et De Vriese in Several Class Ages and Altitudes, was to investigate pine resin productivity in Forest Management Resort Guyangan, Perum Perhutani, based on variation of altitudes and class ages classified by Perum Perhutani. This study used resin production data that taped by quare methode from Forest Management Resort Guyangan, and then data were analysed with microsoft office excel. The result of this study showed that the highest pine resin productivity is 0.22 kg/tree/month for  class age (KU) V and IV,  and the lowest pine resin productivity, i.e. 0,19 kg/tree/month is for KU VII. Based on altitudes, resin productivities for 500-799 (mdpl) and 800-999 (mdpl) were 0,22 kg/tree/month and 0,20 kg/tree/month respectively. Based on this study, it can be concluded that the higher altitudes the lower pine resin productivity. Meanwile basedon the age class, the productivity of pine resin in different age class shows different values.

Volumetric properties of asphalt concrete is important factor to determine the durability of road pavement. Improvement the durability of road pavement and reducing negative impact of the environment can be done by using modified asphalt. This article aims to know the volumetric properties of  hot mix asphalt using pine resin and waste styrofoam as asphalt modifier. The volumetric properties include voids in mix, voids in the mineral aggregate, voids filled with bitumen, density and bulk specific gravity.  In this study, a continuously graded aggregate was used and mixed with modified asphalt at 155 oC and compacted with 75 blows on both sides. The percentage of waste styrofoam was 6% whereas the percentages of pine resin where  0%, 1%, 2% and 3% by weight of modified asphalt. From the analysis, it can be concluded that asphalt concrete containing pine resin as  modifier strengthen the binding between asphalt and agregate, due to increasing value of voids filled with bitumen (VFB), density and bulk specific gravity. Durability of asphalt concrete using pine resin as modifier was higher than that of asphalt concrete using waste styrofoam because of decreasing value of voids in mix (VIM) and voids in the mineral aggregate (VMA). Based on the specification of  asphalt concrete wearing course, the use of pine resin and waste styrofoam as asphalt modifier has fulfilled volumetric properties requirements.

Completely biobased and biodegradable thermoplastic starch (TPS) based materials with a tunable performance were prepared for food packaging applications. Five blends were prepared by blending TPS with 10 wt%. of different pine resins derivatives: gum rosin (GR), disproportionated gum rosin (RD), maleic anhydride-modified gum rosin (CM), pentaerythritol ester of gum rosin (LF), and glycerol ester of gum rosin (UG). The materials were characterized in terms of thermo-mechanical behavior, surface wettability, color performance, water absorption, X-ray diffraction pattern, and disintegration under composting conditions. It was determined that pine resin derivatives increase the hydrophobicity of TPS and also increase the elastic component of TPS which stiffen the TPS structure. The water uptake study revealed that GR and LF were able to decrease the water absorption of TPS, while the rest of the resins kept the water uptake ability. X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that GR, CM, and RD restrain the aging of TPS after 24 months of aging. Finally, all TPS-resin blends were disintegrated under composting conditions during the thermophilic incubation period (90 days). Because of the TPS-resin blend’s performance, the prepared materials are suitable for biodegradable rigid food packaging applications.
