The article analyzes the reasons behind the choice of non-state preschool education for children by the families of St. Petersburg. The subject area relevance is associated with the need to study family investments in the educational and cultural capital of the younger generation. The main research questions are the advantages of non-state kindergartens education, the influence of the received educational and cultural resources on the further educational path of a person, the relevance of digital methods for collecting sociological information. In the empirical part of the study, we studied the parents' statements on an Internet forum, where the motives behind choosing non-state kindergartens in St. Petersburg were discussed. In addition, an available sociological results analysis and statistical data were used, and expert judgments on the development of the private preschool education sphere in Russia were collected on the Internet. The author presents a parental arguments classification in favor of non-state kindergartens education, developed based on the materials analysis from an Internet forum. The content classification of the unstructured text array was conducted using domestic specialized computer programs. It was found that the main motive for the family choice of non-state preschool education in St. Petersburg is the parents' desire to provide their children with high-quality educational capital. Previously, the most significant reason for preschoolers to turn to private education was the need to place a child at the age of two months in a day nursery. Other advantages of studying in a non-state kindergarten are considered by parents to be an individual approach to children with special needs, care for the student's health, and high-level equipment in private preschool educational institutions. An important condition for choosing a commercial kindergarten is a sufficient family income. Parents see cultural capital as a supplement to the educational resource they receive at an early age, and they also associate education in a private kindergarten with the choice of specialized schools and the high academic performance of the child in primary grades. Research perspective — search and methodological understanding of sociology digital methods to study the long-term effects of the early education stage.

PurposeThis paper verifies whether popular Internet information from Internet forum and search engine exhibit useful content for forecasting the volatility in Chinese stock market.Design/methodology/approachFirst, the authors’ study commences with several HAR-RV-type models, then the study amplifies them respectively with the posting volume and search frequency to construct HAR-IF-type and HAR-BD-type models. Second, from in-sample and out-of-sample analysis, the authors empirically investigate the interpretive ability, forecasting performance (statistic and economic). Third, various robustness checks are utilized to reconfirm the authors’ findings, including alternative forecast window, alternative evaluation method and alternative stock market. Finally, the authors further discuss the forecasting performance in different forecast horizons (h = 5, 10 and 20) and asymmetric effect of information from Internet forum.FindingsFrom in-sample perspective, the authors discover that posting volume exhibits better analytical ability for Chinese stock volatility than search frequency. Out-of-sample results indicate that forecasting models with posting volume could achieve a superior forecasting performance and increased economic value than competing models.Practical implicationsThese findings can help investors and decision-makers obtain higher forecasting accuracy and economic gains.Originality/valueThis study enriches the existing research findings about the volatility forecasting of stock market from two dimensions. First, the authors thoroughly investigate whether the Internet information could enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the volatility forecasting concerning with the Chinese stock market. Second, the authors find a novel evidence that the information from Internet forum is more superior to search frequency in volatility forecasting of stock market. Third, they find that this study not only compares the predictability of the posting volume and search frequency simply, but it also divides the posting volume into “good” and “bad” segments to clarify its asymmetric effect respectively.HighlightsThis study aims to verify whether posting volume and search frequency contain predictive content for estimating the volatility in Chinese stock market. The forecasting model with posting volume can achieve a superior forecasting performance and increases economic value than competing models. The results are robust in alternative forecast window, alternative evaluation method and alternative market index. The posting volume still can help to forecast future volatility for mid- and long-term forecast horizons. Additionally, the role of posting volume in forecasting Chinese stock volatility is asymmetric.

Internet Forum Rules. Structural Determinants of a Genre Pattern The purpose of this article is to describe the genre identity and components of the structural aspect of the genre pattern of internet forum rules, taking into account the newest genological theories related to genre hybridism and genre-formation processes occurring in texts. The methodology of research uses the methods of genological analysis based on the theory of Maria Wojtak. According to this theory, the analysis of the structural aspect is one of the key elements which make it possible to define the genre identity of the text. The research material consists of twenty-two texts from the Sports Internet Forum, which perform the function of regulating and determining the principles of communication on the forum, and which are called the ‘forum rules’ by the users. In its pragmatic aspect, such rules refer to the official genre of regulations, and it may either represent its alternation or adaptation pattern, or function as an independent genre.

Summary Quite many companies or organisations experience smaller or larger crises for an abundance of various reasons and yet a situation is not immediately named a crisis as such, even though the signs are rather clear. That was the case with the crisis communication of Vinted. The research aimed to analyse the external crisis communication in Vinted (as mother company in Lithuania) and Kleiderkreisel (as daughter company in Germany) for the topic is hardly analysed, especially linguistically. The material for crisis communication in Vinted was gathered from the articles in business news portal Verslo žinios (www.vz.lt) and the material for the analysis of crisis communication in Kleiderkreisel was gathered from the official Kleiderkreisel internet forum. It was noticed that the types of crises are different and because of that companies choose different ways for communication, meaning that where and how the company communicates with its community was influenced by the type of crisis itself. Communication of Vinted (statements in Lithuanian language) and Kleiderkreisel (statements in German language) was analysed and compared using the discourse analysis method which later led to recognition of different types of crises and the different crisis communication models that were applied. Due to the reason, that the data of Vinted covers 2016–2017 and the data of Kleiderkreisel covers 2014–2016, it allows to see the outcomes of both cases of crisis and further communication. In 2019 Vinted has received a new investment and became the first Unicorn in Baltic countries. Because the company grows further in the year 2020, it can be presumed that communication and managements strategies applied in the years of crisis were correct.

YouTube has traditionally been singled out as particularly influential in the spreading of ISIS content. However, the platform along with Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft jointly created the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism in 2017 as one mode to be more accountable and take measures toward combating extremist content online. Though extreme content on YouTube has been found to have decreased substantially due to this and other efforts (human and machine-based), it is valuable to historically review what role YouTube previously had in order to better understand the evolution of contemporary moves toward platform accountability in terms of extremist video content sharing. Therefore, this study explores what role YouTube’s recommender algorithm had in directing users to ISIS-related content prior to large-scale pressure by citizens and governments to more aggressively moderate extremist content. To investigate this, a YouTube video network from 2016 consisting of 15,021 videos (nodes) and 190,087 recommendations between them (edges) was studied. Using Qualitative Comparative Analysis, this study evaluates 11 video attributes (such as genre, language, and radical keywords) and identifies sets of attributes that were found to potentially be involved in the outcomes of YouTube recommending extreme content. This historical review of YouTube at a unique point in platform accountability ultimately raises questions of how platforms might be able to be more proactive rather than reactive regarding filtering and moderating extremist content.
