Abstract Bleeding is a major and potentially life-threatening complication of peptic ulcer. Despite endoscopic hemostatic therapy advance, conventional endoscopic hemostatic modalities remain refractory for peptic ulcer bleeding with big size, fibrous base or in difficult-to-access anatomical locations. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection treatment (ECIT) for refractory high-risk peptic ulcer bleeding by conventional endoscopic therapy. The patients with refractory high-risk peptic ulcer bleeding by conventional endoscopic therapy were carried out ECIT. The data were retrospectively collected. A total of 119 patients accepted ECIT. 74 patients (62.18%) obtained successful intravascular injection and perivascular injection was performed in 45 patients (37.82%). Immediate hemostatic rate for active bleeding achieved 90.91%. Rebleeding rate within 30 days was 12.07%. Overall successful hemostasis rate achieved 87.93%. Immediate hemostatic rate and overall successful hemostasis rate in intravascular injection patients were markedly superior over perivascular injection. Rebleeding rate in intravascular injection patients was markedly lower than that in perivascular injection patients. 11 patients complicated abdominal pain and no other complication occurred. In conclusion, ECIT, especial intravascular injection, was effective and safe, with high successful hemostasis rate for refractory high-risk peptic ulcer bleeding by conventional endoscopic therapy.

Background and Objectives: Recent evidence highlighted a higher prevalence of knee osteoarthritis (kOA) among young and former ex-professional athletes. Although the practice of a highly demanding sport is considered a predisposing factor for the knee joint cartilage degeneration, articular cartilage seems to positively respond to a moderate load increase. We aim to investigate recent evidence on the conservative management of early kOA in athletes, with a particular emphasis on therapeutic exercise and injection treatment, in order to highlight whether there are any indications that can influence clinical and rehabilitation practice. Materials and Methods: A scoping review was conducted, screening MEDLINE and PEDro databases for studies published over the past twenty years on the topic. Studies in English, with accessible abstracts, were included in the review. The PICO framework was used (P—patient: athletes, I—Intervention: conservative treatment with therapeutic exercise or injection therapies, C—Comparison: not needed, O—Outcomes: clinical outcomes). Clinical trials, randomized controlled trials, and longitudinal studies were considered. Results: Four studies were finally included in the review. Therapeutic exercise seems to have beneficial effects on prevention of cartilage degeneration, on pain reduction, and on physical function enhancement. On the other hand, in mild to moderate stages of kOA the intra-articular viscosupplementation with Hyaluronic Acid showed a medium to long-term improvement in joint pain and function. The Platelet Rich Plasma treatment also showed a significant improvement in pain and function up to 12 months. Conclusions: Despite the heterogeneity of the studies considered, a multimodal treatment combining therapeutic exercise and moderate aerobic activity (such as running) should be indicated to prevent kOA development. In cases of symptomatic kOA it may be indicated to add minimally invasive injection therapy that seems to contribute to the improvement of motor function and symptomatology.

Objective. To explore the efficacy of applying Kanglaite (KLT) injection under incentive nursing intervention (INI) in treating patients with advanced penile carcinoma and its effect on patient treatment compliance. Methods. The clinical data of 120 patients with advanced penile carcinoma treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University from February 2019 to February 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients were equally divided into the experimental group (n = 60) and control group (n = 60) according to their admission order. All patients received the KLT injection treatment; those in the control group accepted the conventional nursing; and on this basis, those in the experimental group accepted INI, including psychological nursing intervention, which was conducted concurrently with the treatment, to compare their short-term efficacy, treatment compliance, degree of cancer-related fatigue (Brief Fatigue Inventory), and negative emotion scores (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) between the two groups. Results. Compared with the control group, the experimental group presented a significantly higher objective remission rate (58.3%) ( P < 0.05 ), higher rates of excellent and good treatment compliance ( P < 0.05 ), and lower degree of cancer-related fatigue and negative emotion scores ( P < 0.001 ). Conclusion. INI can improve the negative emotions in patients with advanced carcinoma of the penis, alleviate their degree of cancer-related fatigue, promote their treatment compliance, and achieve a more significant efficacy of applying the KLT injection treatment, so it should be promoted in practice.

Instability and high permeability are two of the problems facing tunnelling excavations in soils with high fines content. Among the different techniques used to improve these soils, the injection of cement grouts stands out. In this work, a grouting treatment is designed to ensure the stability of the ground during the construction of two tunnels linking two municipalities in the north of Spain in Biscay, and to reduce the inflow of water from the aquifer located in the vicinity of these tunnels. First of all, the rock mass is analysed and the material to be injected is selected on the basis of the authors’ experience as well as setting time and compressive strength. Subsequently, with a test device designed by the DinRock research group of the University of Oviedo, two types of laboratory tests are carried out in order to analyse the effect of fines migration and washing on the water flows and the effect of re-injections of grouts with different densities on the permeability value. The results show that, in sandy materials, obtaining high degrees of waterproofing together with large stable zones can only be achieved by a combination of treatments and stages with different materials and densities. In addition, maximum values for both injection pressure and flow rate must be established depending on the type of grout and the permeability of the soil. Once the problem has been analysed, the injection treatment is designed and executed. The treatment consists of one pre-injection in four stages with 30 boreholes drilled in the top heading, 19–20 boreholes drilled in the bench, and one post-injection with boreholes drilled around the perimeter of the tunnel in those areas where the pre-injection does not achieve the desired degree of waterproofing.

This study aimed to evaluate the sensory and physical characteristics of zingibain-injected meat combined with sous vide cooking. M. biceps femoris (BF; n = 12) acquired from 6–7 year old Angus cows were cooked using the sous vide method at 65 °C, for 8 h or 12 h, either with ginger powder (GP) injected in a 2 g/L solution in water (treatment) or un-injected (control). The sensory attributes included flavour, juiciness, tenderness, and physicochemical characteristics were Warner-Bratzler shear (WBSF), hardness, total water content (TWC), cooking loss (CL) and collagen content. A significant improvement in tenderness with injection treatment and cooking time was observed, as evaluated through trained sensory panellists, and reduced WBSF and hardness (p < 0.05 for all). The flavour of the meat was not affected by injection treatment or cooking time (p > 0.05), but juiciness and TWC were reduced with longer cooking times (p < 0.01 for both). Soluble collagen increased with injection treatment and cooking time (both p < 0.05). Moderate to high correlations were found between sensory and physical measurements for tenderness and juiciness. The longer cooking time (12 h) with GP injection treatment caused over tenderization of the meat. The soft texture associated with over-tenderization may be suitable for some specialised consumer markets, for instance, the elderly population with chewing difficulties. Improving the eating quality of low-quality meat from old animals through sous vide cooking and the use of ginger proteases may increase the acceptability of lower value beef, potentially enhancing the commercial value of carcasses typically produced in the beef industry.

The white-back planthopper (WBPH), Sogatella furcifera, mainly harms rice and occurs in most rice regions in China and Asia. With the use of chemical pesticides, S. furcifera has developed varying degrees of resistance to a variety of pesticides. In our study, a chlorpyrifos-resistant population (44.25-fold) was built through six generations of screening with a sublethal dose of chlorpyrifos (LD50) from a field population. The expression levels of ten selected resistance-related P450 genes were analyzed by RT-qPCR and found that CYP408A3 and CYP6CS3 were significantly more expressed in the third instar nymphs of the XY17-G5 and XY17-G6 populations, about 25-fold more than the Sus-Lab strain, respectively (p < 0.01). To elucidate their molecular function in the development of resistance towards chlorpyrifos, we cloned two P450 full lengths and predicted their tertiary protein structures. CYP408A3 and CYP6CS3 were also downregulated after injecting dsCYP408A3, dsCYP6CS3, or their mixture compared to the control group. Moreover, the mortality rates of the dsCYP6CS3 (91.7%) and the mixture injection treatment (93.3%) treated by the LC50 concentration of chlorpyrifos were significantly higher than the blank control group (51.7%) and dsCYP408A3 injection treatment (69.3%) at 72 h (p < 0.01). Meanwhile, the P450 enzyme activities in the dsRNA treatments were lower than that in the control (XY17-G6) (p < 0.01). Therefore, the P450 gene CYP6CS3 may be one of the main genes in the development of chlorpyrifos resistance in S. furcifera.
