The aim of the paper is to discuss the strategies used when translating inserts in the “third language” (L3). I focus on the situation where the “third language” remains fully understandable for the recipient of the source text. I will present the strategies for translating the Ukrainian text with Russian incrustations into Polish against a comparative background of other language triads.

This article represents research on an obscene Ukrainian folklore text published by Fedor. Vovk. Its possible relation to the verse fairy tale, “Nikita the Tzar, and his Forty Daughters”, by Aleksandr S. Pushkin is considered. The elements of the text are given Slavic folklore parallels, which enables making a conclusion about the clearly folk origin of the creative product. The following question is raised: can the text under research possibly be a distant reverberation of the Slavic etiological myth about how women acquired genitals? While such myths might have pagan roots, a suggestion is made that pagan gods were the prototypes of the main characters in the Ukrainian text. Thus, the text, recorded as an obscene joke, can supplement the collection of aetiological myths and legends about how the original people acquired genitals.

The article dwells on the linguocultural issues of interlingual communication. Interlingual communication is presented in the article by translation while linguocultural means are viewed as expressive tools used to construct a national worldview where the expressive function is of paramount importance. The major task in rendering the expressive function in translation is to achieve equivalence, i.e. creation such a situation in the process of interlingual communication where the emotional response of a source-text reader could be equal to that of a target-text reader. It is important to take into account intercultural peculiarities of emotion manifestation while analyzing the degree of emotionality and expressiveness of a work of fiction in different languages. This is accounted for a double nature of emotions. They are viewed as a universal psychic phenomenon, physiological experience, on the one hand, and as an emotional concept characterized by specific culturally-related wording and perception, on the other hand. Though emotions are of universal character, the typological structure of emotional lexicon is different in different languages having very clear national peculiarities. This proves that a language is not a mirror reflection of the world and serves as one more evidence that the world of emotions and the world of language means do not coincide. In the paper, linguocultural means to denote various emotions peculiar for a Ukrainian text and the ways of their rendering in an English text in the process of interlingual communication have been considered. It requires, first and foremost, besides the analysis of the ways of translation of expressive means in a source-text and a target-text also analyze their reception in accepting culture. Expressive information in the text under consideration and its translation version is rendered by a large arsenal of stylistic means which facilitate the perception and assessment by a reader and a translator of a work of fiction and revealing its emotional potential. It has been established that among the basic expressive means to denote expressive information in interlingual communication are phonetic and graphic, word-building or morphological, lexical, phraseological, and syntactic ones. As a result of the research performed, it has been revealed that the author and the reader, and in the translation process also the translator, are the major agents in the act of communication realizing the principle of anthropocentrism according to which a human being is the completion of universe evolution.

The article compares two examples of modernist short stories of the early twentieth century – „Kew Gardens” by the British writer W. Woolf and „Intermezzo” by the Ukrainian writer M. Kotsyubynsky. Such a comparative study has been carried out for the first time. Most researchers associate Woolfe with „stream of consciousness” literature, but in the short story „Kew Gardens” we see signs of impressionist poetics. “Intermezzo” by M. Kotsiubynsky is traditionally regarded as an example of impressionism. In both texts, the narration is in the first person, there are elements of the „stream of consciousness”; the opposition of social and natural worlds is shown. The narrators in both short stories enjoy the contemplation of nature. The English literary writing contains a fragmentary composition, combining disparate, unrelated episodes. In the Ukrainian text, we observe the internal evolution of the main character-narrator, who is internally reborn in the bosom of nature, filled with new forces. Differences between short stories: Virginia Woolf depicts several visitors to London’s Kew Gardens; Kotsyubinsky creates an autobiographical image of the writer, who is reborn under the influence of nature. In both literary writings, sound, visual, tactile images play an important role, in particular, images of flowers, a snail (W. Woolf), summer fields, the sun, larks, three white shepherd dogs (M. Kotsyubinsky). Both literary writings are examples of the psychological mood of the modernist novella. A comparative analysis of the two texts allows us to compare the Ukrainian literary process with world trends.

The article analyzes the life path of Vira Vovk and key images of her work with a special emphasis on the role of plant symbols, and the influence of sacred ideas on the artist and her faith in God. Attention in the article focuses on the self-identification of Vira Vovk as a purely Ukrainian poetess with her own life position. At the same time, the course of analysis of the author's biography and bibliography circles around her sincere love and devotion to Ukraine, in particular – the admiration of the beauty of her native land, the granting of special significance and symbolic meaning to floral dimension, which is clearly illustrated by examples of donna Vira's lyrical lines. The sacred level and divine beliefs are covered, on the one hand, on the examples of the artist's poetry, on the other – taken from the sphere of journalism about Vira Vovk, namely, from interviews with poetess within literary evenings, conferences, round tables. The article outlines significant instructions to the younger generation of writers: here we are talking about the use of Ukrainian images, plots, historical background of our Motherland, without the involvement of foreign motifs and style. We will try to reveal the secret of "lameness" of the Ukrainian text through the eyes of Vira Vovk and the role of the Ukrainian author's style in the context of the formation of a young writer. In addition to the purely literary level and the analysis of the emigration author's work, we also intent to show Vira Vovk as a sophisticated person, whose literary roots germinated deeply from the Ukrainian land, absorb the entire color of the Ukrainian mentality, world view and reveals in her work. The means of expressiveness outline the divine direction of her poetry: her faith, exclusive intuition, openness to people and purity of thought.

The purpose of this paper is to develop a hybrid model Ukrainian language sentiment analyzer, which should improve the accuracy of the mood definition to expand the Ukrainian language among the instruments on the market. The object of research is the processes of determining the language of the text and predicting its sentiment score. The subject of the study is Ukrainian comments posted by Google Maps users. The following text categories are taken into account: food, hotels, museums, and shops. The new method was built as an ensemble of support vector machine, logistic regression, and XGBoost, in combination with a rule-based algorithm. The practical use of the algorithm makes it possible to analyze the Ukrainian text in accordance with the category with the visualization of the research results. The accuracy of the proposed method is bigger than 0.88 in the worst case. The mining procedure of the positive and negative sides of service providers based on users’ feedback is developed. It allows electronics business to make improvements based on frequent positive and negative words.
