A simplified pushover method for rapidly assessing the seismic capacity of shear-type frames is presented. The frame global force-displacement capacity is described as a trilinear curve passing through three limit states (LS): Damage LS (DLS), Life safety LS (LLS), and Collapse LS (CLS). The global LSs are obtained consequently to the attainment of story-level, element-level, and section-level LSs. All LS capacities are described through closed-form equations. The validity of the proposed method is verified by applying it on several reinforced concrete (RC) frames with a varying number of stories. The results obtained with such an analytical procedure show a good match with those obtained from pushover based on finite element method (FEM) analysis models, in terms of both global force-displacement capacity curves and story displacements at various LSs. The proposed method has the potential to be conveniently applied in large-scale vulnerability/risk assessment studies, where the quality and quantity of the available data call for the use of simplified yet accurate models. More refined models would in fact require significantly heavier computational efforts, not justified by the quality of the results that are usually obtained. The simplicity of the proposed method in such a context is demonstrated through the development of the fragility curves of a five-story shear-type reinforced concrete frame, starting from a predefined set of mechanical and geometrical features characterizing a building typology.

This special issue explores how existential thinking can be a living, global force that opposes racist praxis and thought. We are used to hearing that the “heyday” of existentialism was the middle of the twentieth century. In truth, because existential thought is future-oriented, the heyday of existentialism may be yet to come.

Globalization is viewed in this work as a critical concept by which we understand the transition of human society into the post-pandemic era. In this vein, this paper attempts to look into the process of globalization and its central feature, technology. Technology has become a global force that affects political, social, ethical, and environmental. The ancient Greeks, such as Plato and Aristotle, who lived in aristocratic societies, rejected discourse on technology as unworthy. Social, political, and theoretical activities, rather than technical, were deemed as the highest forms. Plato, for instance, alluded to the artisans merely as the cheapest form of metal compared to gold associated with the philosopher-rulers, while silver is equivalent to the warrior class. Technological change, defined as "progress," is seen as an inevitable process in modern history. This paper explored issues of globalization and the implications of technology, employing crucial viewpoints of Martin Heidegger, acknowledged as one of the powerful and influential philosophers of the 20th century. Specifically, this paper explored “machination (Machenschaft)” and Heidegger’s Technik (Technology) or Gestell (Enframing). Machination is not just human conduct but the act of manipulation. It is a revelation of beings as a whole as exploitable and manipulable objects. The world seems to be a collection of present-at-hand thing with no intrinsic meaning or purpose, a cold place where we cannot put down any roots. All we can do is calculate and control. We observe and measure everything. We make things go faster and faster. Thus, there is a need to discuss and recognize issues related to technology. Heidegger's thoughts offer analytic tools that contribute to a critical understanding of the multidimensional effects, risks, and possibilities brought about by modernity and its globalization..

The tourism sector has become a truly global force for promoting economic growth and development. Therefore, the study of tourism has become an interesting topic for researchers lately. On the other hand, local tourism, generally in developing countries, is often neglected by academics and policymakers. For this reason, this study aims to examine and analyze the role of tourist motivation in mediating accessibility, amenities, and attractions on visiting decisions. This study is a survey research with an explanatory method. The population is tourists who visit the tourism village of Bumiaji, Indonesia, in the low and busy seasons. The population is infinite and the number of respondents who were interviewed is 100 respondents; data were collected by distributing questionnaires to domestic tourists who came from outside the tourist village of Bumiaji, then the data were processed and analyzed using Warp Partial Least Squares. The findings indicate that the effect of accessibility on visiting decisions is not mediated by tourist motivation. This shows that the decision of tourists to visit can be directly influenced by the time and means of transportation available. Meanwhile, the influence of amenities and attractions on the decision to visit is mediated by the motivation of tourists. This means that amenities and attractions can influence a tourist’s decision to visit if there is an urge from tourist to relax or make friends or enjoy the culture at tourist attractions, etc.

An important body of literature shows that citizens evaluate elected officials based on their past performance. In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, the conventional wisdom in both media and academic discourse was that Donald Trump would have been a two-term president absent an unprecedented, global force majeure. In this research note, we address a simple question: did exposure to COVID-19 impact vote choice in the 2020 presidential election? Using data from the Cooperative Election Study, we find that Trump’s vote share decreased because of COVID-19. However, there is no evidence suggesting that Joe Biden loses the election when no voter reports exposure to coronavirus cases and deaths. These negligible effects are found at both the national and state levels, and are robust to an exhaustive set of confounders across model specifications.

Tension and mechanical properties of muscle tissue are tightly related to proper skeletal muscle function, which makes experimental access to the biomechanics of muscle tissue formation a key requirement to advance our understanding of muscle function and development. Recently developed elastic in vitro culture chambers allow for raising 3D muscle tissue under controlled conditions and to measure global tissue force generation. However, these chambers are inherently incompatible with high-resolution microscopy limiting their usability to global force measurements, and preventing the exploitation of modern fluorescence based investigation methods for live and dynamic measurements. Here, we present a new chamber design pairing global force measurements, quantified from post-deflection, with local tension measurements obtained from elastic hydrogel beads embedded in muscle tissue. High-resolution 3D video microscopy of engineered muscle formation, enabled by the new chamber, shows an early mechanical tissue homeostasis that remains stable in spite of continued myotube maturation.

Recently, the technology become an important part of our live, and it is employed to work together with the Medicine, Space Science, Agriculture, and industry and more else. Stored the information in the servers and cloud become required. It is a global force that has transformed people's lives with the availability of various web applications that serve billions of websites every day. However, there are many types of attack could be targeting the internet, and there is a need to recognize, classify and protect thesis types of attack. Due to its important global role, it has become important to ensure that web applications are secure, accurate, and of high quality. One of the basic problems found on the Web is DDoS attacks. In this work, the review classifies and delineates attack types, test characteristics, evaluation techniques; evaluation methods and test data sets used in the proposed Strategic Strategy methodology. Finally, this work affords guidance and possible targets in the fight against creating better events to overcome the most dangers Cyber-attack types which is DDoS attacks.

China, Japan and India are overwhelming forces in world politics because of their large population, economic size and trade volume, strategic weight, potential for further technological advancement, economic growth, diplomatic heft and military power. Together they could be an unmatched global force, act as a catalyst to the much touted “Asian century” prospect and help redesign the existing international order to reflect power shift. Yet their relationship to each other is highly complex, and their world views on key issues and strategies of global interaction diverge significantly. Such an unhealthy politico-strategic landscape of the Asian continent is likely to continue. While these three recalibrate and redesign their relations to each other, other regional nations will need to carefully work around this tangled triangle.
