This chapter highlights how diversity management, a widely practiced management philosophy, has emerged from an original focus of equal opportunity and representation to a focus on a strategic and competitive business opportunity for organizations. However, the adverse, lived experiences that socially marginalized people experience are concealed within business goals despite having their “difference” marketed as a competitive advantage. The aim of this chapter is to conceptualize diversity management as having mutually inclusive, intersecting goals rather than mutually exclusive, competing goals.

Institutional potential plays a key role in creating business opportunities. However, past studies did not emphasize on the consistency and the interaction between institutional and entrepreneurial potential-shaping factors. This research aimed to explore the role of these two aspects in spotting market gaps and encouraging competitiveness. Mixed methods were used, with basic concepts focusing on new institutional economic theory. The results showed that standardization, commercialization, technology, productivity, invention, social capital, and human capital strengthened institutional potential and social entrepreneurship. This created more ventures and encouraged competition. However, there is a need to eliminate institutional barriers to improve the efficiency and productivity of the socio-cultural-economic systems.

As well as bringing convenience to consumers, online shopping also represents an enormous business opportunity. In online shopping, the Double 11 shopping festival (hereafter Double 11) organized by China’s Alibaba has set records and has continued to grow rapidly for the last 10 years. To understand this phenomenon, this study adapted self-determination theory to explore customers’ motivation and perceived values with respect to Double 11. This study focused on people who live in China who shopped during the China Double 11 Carnival Shopping Festival in 2018. A total of 399 validated data were collected and then confirmatory factor analysis with structural equation model was conducted. The results of the study show that purchase amotivation is not significantly related to, but extrinsic purchasing motivation is positively related to hedonic value and social value. Moreover, continuance intention to purchase can be positively predicted by hedonic value and social value. With a better understanding of these results, managers operating electronic businesses can use certain approaches to increase customers’ extrinsic motivation and enhance their experiential values to promote their continuance intention to purchase goods on a particular day, for example, by creating more shopping festivals.

Pangkah Kulon is one of the villages in Gresik Regency which is located in Ujung Pangkah District, Gresik, East Java. The lack of public knowledge about fish processing makes people required to be more creative in increasing the selling value of fish into processed products. So far, fresh fish caught by fishermen are sold directly to middlemen, while fresh fish that do not pass the sorting is simply thrown away. To increase the economic value of fish into high selling value products, training in the production of fish crackers is carried out. The training was conducted on the socialization of creative preparations, training on the manufacture and creative industry of fish crackers. In this training, participants (fishermen's wives) are trained to operate production equipment, from dough making, milling, to cutting. The knowledge and skills provided can be used as a pioneering effort for the fish cracker creative industry which is a favorite food for the community in general. In addition, it is also a business opportunity that can increase household income.

In the years of the financial and sovereign debt crisis in Greece, many viable businesses that are facing financial difficulties are led to liquidation rather than timely restructuring, with very few entrepreneurs having a second chance. This corporate failure faced by Greek companies in recent years may have been caused by either endogenous or exogenous factors or a combination of these two. In this paper we investigate the factors (economic, social and political) that will help to facilitate entrepreneurs' access to a second and third opportunity, taking also into account socially vulnerable groups such as disabled people and women entrepreneurs. Moreover, we try to find the characteristics that would encourage honest bankrupt entrepreneurs to a second business venture and the sectors where a second chance may have increased chances of sustainability in Greece. The aim of our research is to lead Greece to higher levels of self-employment, reduction in unemployment, and exit from the crisis.

The problems in this study are the number of housewives who have free time and still have a fairly low income level and the lack of knowledge and skills of housewives in processing seafood without realizing that this potential can be a business opportunity that can increase family income. The purpose of this study was to describe the process of empowering housewives through making kupang nuggets in Karang Gading village. The empowerment theory used is Mustafa Kamil (2007). Training is a process of empowerment and learning carried out by individuals (community members) in learning something in order to improve abilities, skills, and behavior in work and daily life in supporting their economy (income). This theory explains that empowerment is a process of providing knowledge and skills to the community with the aim of improving the quality of life which is expected if these skills are realized will increase family income. This research is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. Data collection tools used are observation sheets, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results and discussion of the research explained that the training process for making kupang nuggets was divided into three stages, namely the planning, implementation and evaluation stages. Materials on packaging and marketing of kupang nuggets were also delivered in the training.  Keywords: Empowerment; Kupang Nugget Making Training
