Abstract Employing Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation(LMB) neural network, the system of three species nonlinear equations are illuminated by designing an integrated numerical computing-based plot. The proposed dynamical system comprises of two competing species which are growing logistically in nature and, the third species is predating with Holling type II functional response mode on second species and also acts host for the first prey species. Besides, the prey species protect themselves to refuge high predation. The designed LMB neural network has been used to exhibits the solutions of the dynamical frame work. In each case of the species, a reference dataset of the planned LMB neural network is initiated in comparison of Adam numerical program. The approximate results of the food web system are displayed within the training, confirmation and testing strategies to redesign the neural network to minimize the mean square error (MSE) function employing the designed LMB. The investigations depend on the corresponding achievements and the examinations based on MSE out comes, correlation, regression and error histograms signify the proficiency, rightness as well as the potency of the suggested LMB neural network conspire.

This study presents the results of an experimental and numerical program carried out on unreinforced masonry panels strengthened by textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) plastering. For this purpose, five panels were constructed, instrumented and tested in diagonal shear mode. Two panels were tested as reference. The first reference panel was left unstrengthened, while the second one was strengthened by a traditional self-supporting cement mortar matrix reinforced with steel meshes. The remaining three panels were strengthened by TRM plastering applied on one or both faces and connected with transversal composite anchors. The numerical and the experimental results evidenced a good effectiveness of the TRM systems, especially when applied on both panel facings.

The paper presents the response of two geodesic domes under seismic excitations. The structures subjected to seismic analysis were created by two different methods of subdividing spherical triangles (the original octahedron face), as proposed by Fuliński. These structures are characterised by the similar number of elements. The structures are made of steel, which is a material that undoubtedly gives lightness to structures and allows large spans. Designing steel domes is currently a challenge for constructors, as well as architects, who take into account their aesthetic considerations. The analysis was carried out using the finite element method of the numerical program. The two designed domes were analysed using four different seismic excitations. The analysis shows what influence particular earthquakes have on the geodesic dome structures by two different methods. The study analysed the maximum displacements, axial forces, velocities, and accelerations of the designed domes. In addition, the Time History method was used for the analysis, which enabled the analysis of the structure in the time domain. The study will be helpful in designing new structures in seismic areas and in assessing the strength of various geodesic dome structures under seismic excitation.

This paper presents a comparative study for the cracking limit state according to design codes. It aims mainly to connect research findings with design code equations. Appropriate recommendations are reached and the various factors and parameters influencing crack width investigated. The most appropriate equation for crack width calculation can be found. This is done by creating an analytical and numerical program studied various factors and parameters affecting on the crack width. The Analytical study includes some variables affecting the crack width such as steel stress, concrete cover, flexural reinforcement ratio and rebar arrangement. A 3-D finite element analysis by ABAQUS were used to model and idealize the problem. The numerical results were compared with the analytical results. It was concluded that some codes did not take into account the impact of some major variables and cases on the crack width. Also, it was found that some codes are not clear in the region concerning the position of the crack width calculation and the values obtained for the crack width. For calculating crack width values, JSCE (2007) equation is the most appropriate equation as it takes into account the main parameters that affect crack width. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2021-03091720 Full Text: PDF

Longwall - associated geotechnical problems have been extensively studied by using numerical modelling methods. However, proper representation of its geological structures remains a challenging task. This paper presents a systematic understanding of numerical modelling techniques for studying longwall coal mining with geological structures. The modelling techniques derived from conventional and advanced continuum and discontinuum methods were reviewed in detail with emphasiz on their mechanic's formulation and applications. This study suggests that the successful selection of a proper modelling technique should be based on the physical principle of longwall problem, texture and shape of materials, and mechanics formulation of the numerical program used for modelling. The paper’s conclusions assist numerical modellers in quickly and properly selecting modelling technique for investigating a site - specific longwall problem.

An unsaturated soil constitutive model considering the influence of microscopic pore structure can more accurately describe the hydraulic–mechanical behavior of unsaturated soil, but its numerical implementation is more complicated. Based on the fully implicit Euler backward integration algorithm, the ABAQUS software is used to develop the established hydro-mechanical coupling constitutive model for unsaturated soil, considering the influence of micro-pore structure, and a new User-defined Material Mechanical Behavior (UMAT) subroutine is established to realize the numerical application of the proposed model. The developed numerical program is used to simulate the drying/wetting cycle process of the standard triaxial specimen. The simulation results are basically consistent with those calculated by the Fortran program, which verifies the rationality of the developed numerical program.

Abstract This study evaluates the movement of a frame built on soft soil under seismic excitation taking into account soil-structure interaction. First, the study was evaluated using the finite element method, then, by using a substructure method which modelled the soil using springs and dampers in a linear and nonlinear study. Rheological models were determined using impedance functions, calculated using a numerical program CONAN. These dynamic impedances are shown in the displacement vector of a three-degrees-of-freedom frame, which was calculated on the basis of lateral forces distributed over the structure height using the equivalent static method. In this regard, two different calculation norms were chosen; RPA2003 and UBC97. Finally, a parametric study was carried out, based on the effects of soil densification and the foundation geometry on the response of the RC frame.
