Abstract Background: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Training (DBT-ST) is one of the four core elements of standard DBT. Studies show that standalone DBT-ST appears to be a promising treatment in patients with emotion dysregulation by teaching them skills needed to change patterns associated with problems in living. It is not clear who benefits from this treatment and which components are most beneficial. Relevant studies will be easily navigated once mapped and summarized in this proposed scoping review. Methods:The proposed scoping review will be conducted following Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for scoping reviews. Medical literature databases including MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Cochrane will be searched. Papers retrieved will be screened for inclusion by two independent reviewers and data will be extracted and reported in a summary table with supporting narrative. We aim to include all English academic papers addressing standalone DBT-ST including studies utilizing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. Discussion:The objective of this scoping review is to explore the literature, map, and summarize evidence pertaining to DBT-ST to help guide future research and treatment.

Qualitative methods are used in this research with data obtained through books, journals, scientific articles, and other related sources. The results showed that the ideal country according to the thoughts of Abul A'la Al-Maududi, Hasan Al-Banna, and Taqiyuddin An-Nabhani is a country based on Islam. These figures made Rasulullah when he founded the state of Medina until the time of Khulafaur Rasyidin as the reference for the ideal state. Because for them, at that time Islam was used as the main reference and foundation of life and could solve all problems, including problems in living as a state. These figures also reject the separation between religion and state (secularism), and agree to make sovereignty in God's hands. According to them, religion has an important role in the state. This chapter considers the question of whether and how one may find wellness and happiness within an experience of illness and argues for why this is indeed the case. The chapter also considers how human beings rely on narratives, which we ourselves construct and live by, to understand and make meaning of illness. Furthermore, the chapter considers how changing one’s habits of thinking, acting, and feeling may help assuage the emotional pain linked to living with a chronic illness and help ameliorate practical problems-in-living. The chapter also introduces the concept of ultimate concerns, as well as the author’s categories of vital, relational, vocational, and mortal concerns. The concept of resilience frames the chapter, including what may help strengthen one’s capacity for living with resilience.

This chapter demonstrates how a counselor may utilize phase 1 of the loss-based counseling (LBC) approach in practice by presenting a case study of a man, Manny, who has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The five components of the LBC approach, education, identification, formulation, implementation, and evaluation receive attention as concerns Manny’s experience and needs. Showing how a Parkinson’s diagnosis results in feelings of significant loss, the chapter also suggests how attention to purposeful actions (tasks) geared toward ameliorating particular problems-in-living may help ease the burdens of Parkinson’s and, likewise, promote an experience of mourning. The result can be a life with greater measures of acceptance, peace, purpose, joy, and contentment.

Purpose: Breast cancer survivors may experience worse social, physical, and emotional function compared to the general population, although symptoms often improve over time. Data on problems in living can help to improve interventions and supportive care for breast cancer survivors. Symptoms such as fatigue, pain, difficulties with sleep, and sexual problems may have an adverse effect on the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Methods: We examined problems in living using data from a survey of 164 breast cancer survivors who had completed primary therapy for the disease. Results: A total of 164 women completed the study questions (response rate 16.4%). The mean age of the women was 67 years. Among all participants, 66.7% were white, 29.5% were African-American, and the remainder were of other races. Almost all of the symptoms were more likely to be reported by participants who were < 55 years of age. Other important correlates of symptoms included non-white race, marital status, and having a household income of less than $50,000 per year. Conclusion: The results of this study highlight the need for caregivers to emphasize screening for and discussion of symptoms, including sleep difficulties, fatigue, loss of strength, aches and pains, and muscle or joint stiffness. Of particular concern are younger survivors and those who are African American or low-income.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body play an important role in various processes. It is well known that harmful high levels of ROS can cause many problems in living organisms in a variety of ways. One effective way to remove intracellular ROS is to use reducing materials that can enter the cell. Herein, we developed a strong reducing carbon nano-dot from a natural product, lutein, as an initial raw material. This is a hydrothermal synthesis method with the advantages of simplicity, high yield, mild reaction conditions, and environmental friendliness. The prepared carbon dots exhibit bright blue fluorescence, and have good water solubility and biocompatibility. In particular, the carbon dots can easily enter the cell and effectively remove ROS. Therefore, the carbon dots are thought to protect cells from oxidative damage by high levels of ROS.
