Mobile Internet-based intelligent media has become a popular academic topic. This study uses the CiteSpace visualisation tool and Scientific Citation Index Expanded database to comb the existing research in the field of intelligent media from a quantitative perspective. A total of 7248 English papers were published on the topic of “intelligent media” from 2012 to 2021, and 145 highly cited papers refined were analysed. Scientific knowledge graphs were analysed from six dimensions: annual publication quantity, country of publication, institution of publication, author, keywords, and cited references. In the last 10 years, the research literature on intelligent media has been found to increase annually. Presently, the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America have a high proportion of documents in this field. Chinese universities and institutions have achieved significantly in terms of the quantity and quality of documents. From the perspective of the whole intelligent media discipline, the high-yield author group has not been formed, and there is minimal cooperation amongst authors. Popular intelligent media topics include film, social media, machine learning, swarming motility, data mining, and artificial intelligence. Subject words of the main research directions are event recognition, fake news, Cable News Network model, reconfigurable intelligent surface, comprehensive survey, microblog message, strain sensor, and traffic event. Combined with popular topics and time zone maps, the future research frontier in the field of smart media is identified.

The study of wage levels and the purchasing power of wages is often viewed as a specialized academic topic of little concern to the wider public. This is far from being the case, as this book demonstrates. Politeness is an important academic topic. An action must be taken to prevent rudeness. As a result, this study investigates how counseling techniques can modify students' behavior to be more courteous by implementing politeness tactics and concepts. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to determine why counseling strategies may alter students' perspectives. The research was conducted using a phenomenological study using an observation checklist and interview guideline. The instruments were triangulated for validity. Data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion were all used in the data analysis. The findings revealed that Counselling Technique could have an impact on the outcome. The findings revealed that Counselling Technique had the ability to change students' conduct to become more polite. The students used negative politeness methods to consult with the instructors during its execution. Furthermore, students used all of the politeness standards, including the tact principle, generosity principle, modesty principle, approval principle, compassion principle, and agreement principle. In recent years, fuzzy identification based on system identification theory has become a hot academic topic. Interval type-2 fuzzy logic systems (IT2 FLSs) have become a rising technology. This paper designs a type of Nagar-Bardini (NB) structure-based singleton IT2 FLSs for fuzzy identification problems. The antecedents of primary membership functions of IT2 FLSs are chosen as Gaussian type-2 primary membership functions with uncertain standard deviations. Then, the back propagation algorithms are used to tune the parameters of IT2 FLSs according to the chain rule of derivation. Compared with the type-1 fuzzy logic systems, simulation studies show that the proposed IT2 FLSs can obtain better abilities of generalization for fuzzy identification problems.

In today’s world, writing is no longer a natural activity, especially for the younger generation. They look upon this activity as too complex, overwhelming and sometimes irrelevant. These attitudes are amplified when having to write in a second language. In EFL tertiary education, the expectations of academic achievement have become far greater than actual student capabilities. This study examined the possibility of using journal writing, both with and without an audience, as a way to address this issue. It is believed that by engaging students in the act of writing without the burden of an academic topic, it will indirectly impact students’ academic performance. Seventy-six undergraduate students in three groups (one control and two experimental) were involved. Data was collected in the form of pre-test and post-test writing, student focus group meetings and an interview with the instructor. From the study, it was found that dialogue journal writing with an audience contributed to an increase in the proficiency level of students, especially in terms of their organizational skills. In addition, students who undertook journal writing expressed gains in self-confidence, and were aware of the role of journal writing in this. Finally, journal writing was found to offer insight to the instructor with regard to what is happening under the surface of a class, and thus better address students’ needs. Mentoring in higher education helps learners acclimate to a new academic topic, increases the likelihood of academic success, and reduces attrition. Learners rely on the expertise and experience of mentors to help them graduate in a timely manner and advance on to their career. As online and distance education becomes more pervasive, computer-mediated mentoring allows learners to connect with their mentors in new ways. Research about mentoring in higher education includes investigations into the efficacy of virtual or e-mentoring. We conducted a literature review of research from 2009 to 2019 to identify relevant elements for implementing e-mentoring programs in higher education. Our research revealed that there is a consistent interest in the subject matter within educational research; however, there is a gap on virtual mentoring in higher education for students conducting offsite internships. Our research reviews e-mentoring programs, identifies how these programs are evaluated, identifies factors of successful programs, and establishes a research agenda in areas of e-mentoring programs for students in offsite internships and how they can be structured to achieve the same level of success.

Purpose Whilst resilience has been a critical academic topic and worldwide issue for many decades, not all territories have been equally investigated. In addition, the role of architecture in contributing to community resilience against climate change has been overlooked. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to shed light on what is the current state of the art of community resilience in rural towns and what type of architectural strategies has been recognised for facilitating resilience. Design/methodology/approach The study has combined literature review and architectural project review. Findings There are four major findings to this research that could impact policy making and decision making if implemented at different institutional levels. First, there is an evident increased academic interest on this topic. Second, there is a need for a greater consultation among the different stakeholders that participate in the planning and implementation of the future-focused adaptation strategies. Third, the potential for the architectural discipline to play an active role in facilitating and ameliorating community resilience has been identified. Fourth, there is a need to integrate placed-based and identity-related factors/components into a community’s framework for resilience amelioration. Research limitations/implications One limitation is the fact that the literature review investigated only English literature. Also, the review relied mostly on online findings and, for the good-practice review, did not take into consideration direct local knowledge, which would have required travelling the globe and all of Australia in order to collect feedback. Thus, some projects and literature might have been missed. Originality/value The value of this research is to compare findings from literature review (scholar activities) and best practices (architectural activities). In combining the two aspects, it merges a gap in research.

Communities of practice are supporting growth, development and collaboration in various environments. A new Chair in teaching and learning at Polytechnique Montreal, focusing their activities on active learning strategies, perceived useful and relevant to build a community of practice around this widespread academic topic. To achieve this goal, they built a repertoire of active learning strategies to stimulate meetings and encourage exchanges between engineering educators.The ultimate objective is to promote the use of active learning strategies, which are more effective than the traditional ones, to enable in-depth and lasting learning. Many success factors and integration challenges concerning this type of approach have been studied and are considered and addressed with this new instrument.Francophone teachers from all around the world, will be able to share their experiences with active learning in an engineering context as well as learn from and teach to others in the community. The platform’s effectiveness as a collaborative tool will be studied and measured with an action research protocol, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

The editors in this chapter introduce the topic of innovation in energy technology and energy law. They highlight some of the pathbreaking changes that have occurred during recent years in both realms, which the chapter authors will address in detail. No factor stimulating energy innovation is more prominent than the need to address climate change around the world. Climate change is joined by other environmental concerns, sustainability, economic efficiency, energy security, energy justice, and geopolitical concerns in shaping the development of energy innovation. The authors also explore the academic topic of innovation and identify its relevance to legal innovation in the energy field.

Research trends keep evolving along the time with certain trackable patterns. Mining academic literature and discovering the latent research trends evolution is an interesting and important problem. Few of previous studies focusing on academic topic evolution modeling have addressed the temporal topic evolution patterns. In addition, researchers' profile and their social networks are valuable complementary to the research trends tracking. In this study, to analyze the underlying research trends evolution along with the scientific collaborations of researchers, a novel temporal research trends evolution model associated with researchers' social networks is proposed and built. Specifically, the detected research topics are classified into different clusters in each timeslot, and the evolution patterns are deduced among these topic clusters. The effectiveness of our approach is evaluated based on a real academic dataset. The experimental results can help users to discover the major research trends for specific fields. Besides, the tracked statuses of the corresponding scientific groups are helpful for searching research trends or finding collaboration opportunities according to researchers' different requirements.
