Aluminum black dross is produced by the secondary smelting process of aluminum. Aluminum black dross is classified as hazardous waste because it is reactive with water and produces substances and gases that are harmful to humans and the environment. Generally, aluminum black dross is managed by landfill method, but because it is produced in large amounts every year, the aluminum black dross needs to be utilized to reduce the impact on the environment. Aluminum black dross consists of large amounts of metal oxide and salts. The amount of metal oxide content in aluminum black dross can be used as raw material. This paper review types of processes for utilizing black dross aluminum as raw material in value-added products. aluminum black dross can be used as alumina, adsorbent, zeolite, composites, geopolymers, refractories, and fillers. By utilizing aluminum black dross waste into various products that have economic value, besides being able to protect the environment, it can also reduce environmental resource use.

The roll is necessary and important equipment in aluminum processing, and its surface temperature will change its thermal expansion. The gap shape between rolls will change accordingly, affecting the quality of aluminum products. Therefore, it is important to monitor and control the roll surface temperature. The roller is a highly reflective body that rotates continuously during work. This article proposes an infrared temperature sensor to measure its surface temperature. Through field investigation and a literature review, we know that a roller’s motion will affect the accuracy of its surface temperature measurement. An infrared temperature measurement compensation algorithm based on rotation speed is constructed to eliminate this influence. Experimental results show that this method can make up for the temperature measurement error caused by the change of rotation speed and hence improve measurement accuracy. The algorithm is simple and adaptable and provides a new method to improve the accuracy of temperature measurement given speed change.

The aluminum and its alloy have several characteristics i.e. relatively low density, high electrical and thermal conductivity and also good in corrosion resitance. The molding process of green anode blocks at an aluminum plant is carried out by an anode forming system. In this system, there is a printer called as turntable vibrating compactor or referred to as a ‘shaking machine’. During 55 seconds of anode block compaction, the fluctuating stress would be received by hydraulic cylinder bolt due to vibrations of the turntable vibrating compactor. Fluctuating stress that works continuously on the bolt can increase the tendency of failure. This paper aims to find out the causing factors and alternative solution for failure of the hydraulic cylinder bolt. To determine the cause of failure, several methods are carried out, i.e. fractography investigation, metallography examination according to ASTM E3-95, hardness testing according to ASTM E92-17 and tensile testing according to ASTM E8/E8M-16a. Fractography investigation show the failure mode of low cycle fatigue due to the application of high nominal stress. This is indicated by the presence of ratchet, beach mark, river mark and shear lip. The short life of the bolt due to the hardness and strength of the bolt after undergoing the heat treatment process Q + T cannot increase its endurance limit.

BPS-Statistics Indonesia, noted the value of imports in 2018 grew 20.15% while export values only grew 6.65%.Accordingly, there was a trade deficit of USD 8.57 billion. For boosting export, the government gives exemption or reimbursement of import duty and other import related taxes through the Import Facility for Export Purpose(KITE). PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) engages in aluminum processing industry. Inalum suppliesintermediate input to third parties such as aluminum extrusion companies which export the end products. So far, imports of Inalum are still subject to import duty and other import related taxes. This study aims to provide an overview of the KITE expansion scheme that can be provided to Inalum. This study uses a descriptive exploratory method, moving from existing data then referring to the relevant provisions and then proposes new provisions plan for the expansion of KITE. This study found there is a great opportunity to overcome this deficit by providing an expansion of KITE. Then, this study discovered the extension of KITE to Inalum and the third parties had a significant impact on increasing exports. And then, from the analysis of the existing KITE provisions, this study found the need for expansion of the facility

Background: Excessive inhalation of aluminium powder occasionally results in upper lobe predominant lung fibrosis, which is similar to idiopathic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (IPPFE) and has been suggested to be secondary PPFE. Case presentation: A 67-year-old man who had worked in an aluminum-processing factory for 50 years visited our hospital complaining of exertional dyspnea. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed bilateral dense sub-pleural consolidation in the upper and middle lung fields, which was consistent with IPPFE; however, the possibility of secondary PPFE associated with aluminosis was not ruled out. Considering the patient’s critical condition, trans-bronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) rather than surgical lung biopsy was performed, with elemental analysis of the biopsied specimen. Unfortunately, the specimen obtained by TBLB did not contain alveolar tissue; therefore, pathological diagnosis of PPFE was not possible. However, radiographic findings were highly suggestive of PPFE. On elemental analysis, excessive amounts of aluminum were detected in the bronchiolar walls, establishing a diagnosis of airway aluminosis with likely secondary PPFE resulting from aluminium exposure. Conclusions: TBLB with elemental analysis might be useful in differentiating idiopathic PPFE from secondary causes in dust inhalation related disease, such as aluminosis. This case indicated that inhalation of aluminium might cause secondary PPFE, with attention needing to be paid to avoid further exposure.

The paper presents the study on mechanical and corrosion properties of rolled sheet products from a new alloy of the Al-Mg-Sc system in a deformed and heat treated state. Its use and development of technologies for the production of relevant parts for automobile and shipbuilding industries are important today due to the tasks of downstream aluminum processing, which are solved by RUSAL, and confirmed by the state support of a comprehensive project aimed at creating a high-technology production division, being currently carried out by the Bratsk Aluminium Smelter and Siberian Federal University. To determine mechanical and corrosion properties, the authors used sheets and coils rolled on industrial reversing hot rolling mill Quarto 2800. The tensile test was used to study deformed samples after rolling and samples produced in five heat treatment modes with varying heating temperatures of 300, 350 and 380°C and a soaking time of 1 and 3 hours. The studies on samples of rolled products with various thicknesses showed that as compared to the initial state, steel strength properties after heat treatment decrease by 12–20% on average, and ductility properties (δ) increase by 50–65%. In this case, heat treatment modes 1–3 give a fairly good ratio of strength and ductility properties. The level of these properties is comparable to the properties of alloy 01570. It is noted that a trend in a decrease in strength properties and a growth of ductile properties with increasing heat treatment temperature is also observed for samples of rolled products produced by various methods of cold rolling (cut-to-length sheets and in coils). If sheet thickness is similar, strength properties are higher, when sheets are cut-to-length rather than in coils. The corrosion tests of sheets with different thicknesses showed that the heat treatment modes under study do not have a significant influence on alloy resistance to intergranular corrosion.

Aluminum and aluminum based material are significant industrial materials synthesis because of their abandonment, low weight and high-quality corrosion resistance. The most advances in aluminum processing are the ability to synthesize it’s under suitable chemical composition and conditions, a porous structure can be formed on the surface. Activated alumina particles (AAP) synthesized by the electrochemically process from aluminum have gained serious attention, inexpensive material that can be employed for water filtration due to its active surface. Thus, the paper present a review study based on recent progress and advances in synthesizing activated alumina, various techniques currently being used in preparing activated alumina and its characteristics are studied and summarized
