Abstract Background Accessory and cavitated uterine mass (ACUM) is a rare uterine anomaly newly recognized as a form of developmental Mullerian anomaly, which represents a non-communicating uterus-like mass within an otherwise normal uterus. It is a benign gynecological disease associated with severe dysmenorrhea and chronic pelvic pain, which is most common in young nullipara women, and sometimes develops in parous women. Clinical manifestations combined with imaging examinations including ultrasonography (USG), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and hysterosalpingography (HSG) are the means to establish a correct diagnosis. Medical therapy is only marginally effective, but laparoscopic surgery for complete mass excision is a feasible technique to relieve patient’s symptoms. Our article is aimed to report a case of ACUM in an 18-year-old woman and summarize the diagnostic criteria of ACUM. Case presentation : An 18-year-old woman was admitted for severe pain in the right lower abdomen during menstruation, which lasted more than 1 year. The patient was misdiagnosed with focal adenomyosis at our hospital on March 4, 2021. After 4 months, she was diagnosed with ACUM. Once diagnosis as focal adenomyosis, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and gestrinone were administered to the patient. Following the diagnosis of ACUM, she received laparoscopic surgery. Our follow-up indicated that the symptom was significantly relief without drug therapy after sixty days postoperatively. Conclusions Clinical manifestations and imaging examinations are used to establish the diagnosis of ACUM. Medical therapy is only marginally effective, but laparoscopic surgery for complete mass excision is a feasible technique to solve the pain symptom. The prevalence and pathogenesis of ACUM and its reproductive outcomes on patients remain unclear, which calls for more and deeper research to study.

Abstract Endometriosis is an enigmatic gynecological disease initiated by the ectopic growth of endometrial tissue and causes critical symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain, cyclic menstrual pain, subfertility or infertility. Considering extensive investigations for explaining the underlying pathophysiology of endometriosis, origin and distinctive processes which lead to endometritic state are not completely understood. In this comprehensive review, studies published from 2010 to 2021 are reviewed in order to provide a bright insight through the applications of translational animal models and endometriosis induction methods for evaluation of endometriosis pathogenesis and treatment. We provided method based inclusion criteria and reviewed all hormone-based studies with concentration on animal models. Additionally, studies with novel induction methods and approaches are categorized separately and analyzed by a novel scoring table for suitability of further investigations. Eventually, our scoring system suggested that the best-evaluated animal model for hormone related endometriosis studies is an “unopposed estrogenicity baboon model of endometriosis”.

Abstract Background Ovarian cancer is a common gynecological disease and seriously endangers women's health. Currently, there is still a lack of effective molecular markers for the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the molecular markers associated with ovarian cancer. Methods The molecular and gene related to ovarian cancer were extracted from GEO database and TCGA database by bioinformatics, and the related genes and functions were further analyzed. The results were verified by qPCR, WB, CCK-8 and Transwell experiments. Results Data analysis showed that PTH2R gene was highly expressed in tumors, and 51 HUB genes were obtained. Finally, experimental verification showed that PTH2R gene was highly expressed in ovarian cancer, and PTH2R gene was involved in the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of ovarian cancer cells. Conclusions After experimental verification, we found that knocking down the expression of PTH2R can inhibit the proliferation, invasion and migration of tumor cells.PTH2R is expected to become a new molecular marker for ovarian cancer.

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease that impacts more than 176 million women worldwide, having a strong impact on psychological morbidity. This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of psychological morbidity, in women with endometriosis, taking into consideration the duration of the couple’s relationship and the duration of the disease and also examine whether women’s sexual satisfaction had an impact on their psychological morbidity (actor effect) and on their sexual partners’ psychological morbidity (partner effect) and vice versa. Participants were 105 women and their partners, who answered the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS); Couple Satisfaction Index (CSI-4) and the Global Measure of Sexual Satisfaction (GMSEX). The results revealed a direct effect between the perception of symptom severity, marital satisfaction, and women’s psychological morbidity. Sexual activity and the presence of infertility had an indirect effect on the relationship between sexual satisfaction, diagnosis duration, and psychological morbidity, respectively. Finally, women’s sexual satisfaction had a direct effect on their own and partner’s marital satisfaction that predicted less psychological morbidity, in each. Thus, multidisciplinary interventions focused on the couple’s sexual and marital relationship, as well as illness representations, are needed to promote psychological well-being in this population.

Background. Endometriosis is the most prevalent gynecological disease with elusive etiology. The mysterious entity and the lack of noninvasive diagnostic methods affect women’s lives negatively. This study is aimed at finding the relationship between miR-340-5p, 92a-3p, and miR-381-3p and the pathogenesis of endometriosis in endometrial mesenchymal stem-like cells (eMSCs) of endometriosis and assessing their potential as a noninvasive biomarker in plasma. Methods. Peripheral blood and eMSC specimens were collected from suspected women of endometriosis before laparoscopy. Total RNA was isolated from plasma and cultured eMSCs to synthesize complementary DNA. The expression of miR-340-5p, miR-92a-3p, and miR-381-3p was analyzed by RT-qPCR. To understand these miRNAs’ role, we also did a bioinformatic analysis. Results. There was a downregulation of miR-340-5p, miR-92a-3p, and miR-381-3p in plasma, and the upregulation of miR-340-5p and the downregulation of miR-92a-3p and miR-381-3p in eMSCs of women with endometriosis. There was a positive concordance between the expression of miR-92a-3p and miR-381-3p in plasma and eMSCs. Our study also showed three genes, Solute Carrier Family 6 Member 8 (SLC6A8), Zinc Finger Protein 264 (ZNF264), and mouse double minute 2 (MDM2), as common targets of these miRNAs. Conclusions. This study has been one of the first attempts to examine the expression of miR-340-5p, miR-92a-3p, and miR-381-3p in both plasma and eMSCs and revealed their possible role in endometriosis based on in silico analysis. Biomarkers pave the way to develop a new therapeutic approach to the management or treatment of endometriosis patients. Our result as a first report shows that combined levels of miRNAs 340-5p and 381-3p may have the potential to be utilized as diagnostic biomarkers for endometriosis.

Introduction: Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease, which refers to the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine endometrium. This entity has a frequency of 10 to 15% in women of reproductive age, and its most common site of presentation is the ovary. At the extrapelvic level, the most common location is the gastrointestinal and genitourinary location. However, it can occur in any location. Presentation: The case of a 40-year-old female patient with a face tumor in the mandibular region is described, presenting with a disease time of 2 years. Among the important antecedents, two months before the appearance of the tumor region, the patient underwent endodontic surgery of a lower molar tooth, contiguous to the mandibular. Likewise, one month before the appearance of the tumor, the patient underwent an exploratory laparoscopy for electrofulguration of endometriotic foci in the uterine myometrium. The patient underwent a surgical resection of the tumor in the mandibular region described; and after reviewing the histological and immunohistochemical slides at the institution, the diagnosis of endometriosis was established. Conclusion: Extrapelvic endometriosis is rare in our country, and its diagnosis requires experience and visual training in the recognition of normal endometrial tissue. The presentation of this case was considered important because it would be the first case reported in Peru and in the world, of an endometriosis located in the mandibular region.

Endometriosis, an estrogen-dependent chronic gynecological disease, is characterized by a systemic inflammation that affects circulating red blood cells (RBC), by reducing anti-oxidant defenses. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential beneficial effects of licorice intake to protect RBCs from dapsone hydroxylamine (DDS-NHOH), a harmful metabolite of dapsone, commonly used in the treatment of many diseases. A control group (CG, n = 12) and a patient group (PG, n = 18) were treated with licorice extract (25 mg/day), for a week. Blood samples before (T0) and after (T1) treatment were analyzed for: i) band 3 tyrosine phosphorylation and high molecular weight aggregates; and ii) glutathionylation and carbonic anhydrase activity, in the presence or absence of adjunctive oxidative stress induced by DDS-NHOH. Results were correlated with plasma glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) concentrations, measured by HPLC–MS. Results showed that licorice intake decreased the level of DDS-NHOH-related oxidative alterations in RBCs, and the reduction was directly correlated with plasma GA concentration. In conclusion, in PG, the inability to counteract oxidative stress is a serious concern in the evaluation of therapeutic approaches. GA, by protecting RBC from oxidative assault, as in dapsone therapy, might be considered as a new potential tool for preventing further switching into severe endometriosis.
