Illinois has an education system that includes regional cooperatives charged with supporting member districts in the provision of special education services for students from birth to age 22. Such support can include both direct services (i.e., early childhood services, special education classes in a separate building or in special education classrooms of the member districts) and indirect services (e.g., consulting services, professional development and coaching, assessment, related services). This interview is with three leaders in one such cooperative of 18 K-8 and high school member districts of varying size across 3 regions in 2 counties.

Abstract Concern about medical student attendance has been rising over the last decade. Thinking a required attendance policy would fix things, we instituted such a mandate in 2010 only to find that although students were present at lecture and other learning sessions they were disengaged. In addition, we experienced growing distrust between faculty and students and tensions between the Student Affairs and Curriculum offices. After five years, we dismantled the policy in favor of encouraged attendance. We discuss both positive and negative surprising consequences that followed this new approach to attendance which has reshaped our vision for the medical school learning experience. It has been transformative and has afforded us the opportunity to redefine our results in accord with the culture in which we aspire to live and work.

This article analyses three present-day educational initiatives undertaken in Polish public schools on the basis of theoretical models of pedagogical culture. Considerations are directed towards actions of teaching, learning and a relationship between them – expressed in the term of education. The text consists of four sections. The first section presents pedagogical culture developing three theoretical models of educational concept. The second section provides explanation of the term “visibility” in educational processes with reference to the evidence based research. The third part offers an insight into the foundations of current pedagogical initiatives: Dalton Plan, Non Violent Communication and School Awakening in relation to the idea of visibility. Finally, the last section reviews visibility in educational processes and describes its nature in discussed school reform projects.

Leadership is considered as one of the most important factors in school success.  Leaders from the successfully transformed schools demonstrate multiple leadership behaviours that vary according to situations. This qualitative study explored important orientations of leadership behaviours in two selected transformed schools in Malaysia. Data were collected through interviews, observations and document review. 28 participants (14 from each schools) including school leaders, administrators and teachers were selected through purposive sampling for interviews. The data collected were consolidated, reduced and interpreted. The four leadership behaviour orientations, which included task-oriented, relation-oriented, change-oriented and ethical-oriented leadership behaviour, came out as main orientations of leadership behaviours required for school transformation.  The study offers important implications for school leaders, policy makers, educationists and researchers in Malaysia and elsewhere with similar contexts. Keywords: Leadership behaviour orientations, School leaders, School transformation
