Warez: The Infrastructure and Aesthetics of Piracy

When most people think of piracy, they think of Bittorrent and The Pirate Bay. These public manifestations of piracy, though, conceal an elite worldwide, underground, organized network of pirate groups who specialize in obtaining media – music, videos, games, and software – before their official sale date and then racing against one another to release the material for free. Warez: The Infrastructure and Aesthetics of Piracy is the first scholarly research book about this underground subculture, which began life in the pre-internet era Bulletin Board Systems and moved to internet File Transfer Protocol servers (“topsites”) in the mid- to late-1990s. The “Scene,” as it is known, is highly illegal in almost every aspect of its operations. The term “Warez” itself refers to pirated media, a derivative of “software.” Taking a deep dive in the documentary evidence produced by the Scene itself, Warez describes the operations and infrastructures an underground culture with its own norms and rules of participation, its own forms of sociality, and its own artistic forms. Even though forms of digital piracy are often framed within ideological terms of equal access to knowledge and culture, Eve uncovers in the Warez Scene a culture of competitive ranking and one-upmanship that is at odds with the often communalist interpretations of piracy. Broad in scope and novel in its approach, Warez is indispensible reading for anyone interested in recent developments in digital culture, access to knowledge and culture, and the infrastructures that support our digital age.

PERLINDUNGAN KONSUMEN TERHADAPBISNIS BUKU BAJAKAN SECARA ONLINE

The book industry in Indonesia is experiencing a slump. Based on IKAPI's research, book sales declined sharply more than 50%. However, according to CNN research, during this pandemic, around 1.5 billion people have accessed digital web book to fill their time at home. On the other hand, the intensity of online book shopping has risen sharply by 90% to four times according to money.kompas.com sources. Likewise, the katadata.co.id report that book sales through e-commerce surged 2.5 times during the pandemic. The publisher's sluggishness is justified because they (70%) publishers found their books pirated. Reports have been made, but have not produced results. It was recorded that in 2019 the case of piracy law was reported by 12 Publisher Consortiums with Minutes No. LP/0634/VIII/2019/DIY/SPKT to the DIY Jogja Regional Police. With the rise of open piracy in online book marketing, the writer’s attention is to find out the legal protection for consumers of pirated books marketed online. And what factors are the obstacles in law enforcement of the pirated book business. The method used is normative legal research by examining secondary data consisting of primary, secondary and tertiary legal materials. All data and information obtained were processed and analyzed qualitatively using deductive methods. Based on a brief research, the writer examines consumer rights and harmony with the obligations of business actors in ensuring legal certainty when transacting online. In providing legal protection to consumers of pirated books that are marketed online, the perpetrators of piracy can be charged with multiple articles, namely; Article 62 paragraph (1) of Law No 8/1999, Article 45A paragraph (1) of Law No 19/2016 and Article 113 paragraph (4) of Law No 28/2014. Factors constraining law enforcement, such as: Unregistered copyrights make it difficult to investigate and reporting based on complaint offenses incriminating against Copyright perpetrators causes law enforcement in stuck. Suggestions to Government to maximize coordination, synergy and supervision on violations of Copyright and/or Related Rights in the electronic system through a Joint Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights, the Minister of Communication and Information and other relevant Ministers. Pelaporan sudah dilakukan, tetapi belum membuahkan hasil. Tercatat di tahun 2019 kasus hukum pembajakan dilaporkan 12 Konsorsium Penerbit dengan Berita Acara no LP/0634/VIII/2019/DIY/SPKT ke Polda DIY Jogja. Dengan maraknya pembajakan yang dilakukan secara terbuka dalam pemasaran buku online menjadi perhatian penulis untuk mengetahui perlindungan hukum terhadap konsumen buku bajakan yang dipasarkan secara online. Serta Faktor-faktor apa saja yang menjadi kendala dalam penegakan hukum bisnis buku bajakan tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan merupakan pendekatan hukum normatif dengan mengkaji data sekunder yang terdiri dari bahan-bahan hukum primer, sekunder dan tersier. Seluruh data dan informasi yang diperoleh diolah dan dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deduktif. Berdasarkan penelitian singkat penulis mengkaji hak-hak konsumen dan kehormonisan dengan kewajiban pelaku usaha dalam menjamin kepastian hukum ketika bertransaksi secara online. Dalam memberikan Perlindungan Hukum terhadap Konsumen buku bajakan yang dipasarkan secara online maka pelaku pembajakan dapat dijerat dengan pasal berlapis yaitu: Pasal 62 ayat (1)UU No 8/1999, Pasal 45A ayat (1) UU No 19/2016 dan Pasal 113 ayat (4) UU No 28/2014. Faktor-faktor kendala penegakan hukum seperti: Hak Cipta yang belum terdaftar menyulitkan penyidikan; dan pelaporan yang didasarkan delik aduan memberatkan para pelaku Hak Cipta, menyebabkan penegakan hukum seperti berjalan ditempat. Saran kepada Pemangku Kebijakan untuk lebih memaksimalkan koordinasi, sinergi dan pengawasan terhadap pelanggaran Hak Cipta dan/atau Hak Terkait dalam sistem elektronik melalui Peraturan Bersama Menteri Hukum dan HAM, Menteri Komunikasi dan Informatika serta Menteri terkait lainnya.

THE EVALUATION OF BIOLOGY TEACHING USING INVERTEBRATE TAXONOMY TEXTBOOK

The purpose of this research is to produce a research book based on invertebrate taxonomy in Biology Lectures using Borg & Gall based development methods combined with Dick & Carey's learning in the Stages of development, namely: preliminary studies, planning, product draft development, product validation tests by experts, lecturers and peer reviewer, product revision, product trial, product revision. Data collection uses a questionnaire with descriptive data analysis techniques. Based on the results of research that has been developed, it is considered very good and feasible to be used as a textbook with an average of 102.5 (81.3%) by the validation team of material experts and learning designs, as well as lecturers and peer reviewers with an average of 72 (82,91 %), The results of trials by students individually, small groups and limited field of textbooks Invertebrate Taxonomy is very good and feasible to be developed with an average value of 730.6 (86.6%).

Book review: Nietzsche: filosofo della libertà

Nietzsche once opined that “a good review of a research book consists in better solving the problem that book advances” (KGW IV/2, 24 [53]). To some extent, Nietzsche’s ambitious conception of criticism aides in offering a review of Laura Langone’s Nietzsche: filosofo della libertà (Nietzsche: Philosopher of Freedom). Langone deals with a complex and centuries-old theme, as it appears and develops through the Nietzschean corpus: that of freedom. The book attempts to answer questions pertinent to this theme: can we become free? If so, how might we achieve this goal of freedom? What does being ‘free’ really mean, for Nietzsche? How might this freedom affect our lives?

Prisoner Re-Entry

This chapter is part of an ongoing research book project that examines the realities of mass incarceration in Arizona through the intimate stories of the mothers, sisters, wives, and lovers left behind by incarceration. It is designed to use a narrative approach to give the reader an intimate and personal reflection on what in criminal justice we call re-entry but what to the individuals involved is just “coming home.” While it provides a general overview of the formal re-entry process, it is not designed as an academic exploration of that topic.

WORKSHOP PEMBUATAN PROPOSAL PTK DAN PRODUKTIVITAS USAHA KULINER DALAM RANGKA PENGEMBANGAN KESEJAHTERAAN DI JAKARTA TIMUR

This research was designed to develop the ability to make the Classroom Action Research Proposal and culinary business in tekwan production. The teacher could not fulfil the promotion requirement because of the lack of ability to create an classroom action research proposal. The other problem is how to develop a culinary business by making Tekwan as a new product to increase citizen prosperity. The solution to solve this first problem that used in this research were conducting Classroom Action Research Proposal Workshop, then continued with assistance in the creating process and providing resource reference to get funding by Ministry of Education and Culture through the internet. The solution that used for the second problem in this research was by practising in tekwan production, continued by teaching how to make an eye-catching package and accessing market to make a sustainable profit and achieving prosperity. Abstrak Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan membuat proposal Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dan produktivitas usaha kuliner dalam pembuatan tekwan. Permasalahan pertama yang dihadapi dan sangat mendesak tentang kurangnya kemampuan membuat proposal Penelitian Tindakan Kelas bagi guru, sehingga syarat melaksanakan penelitian untuk kenaikan pangkat ada kendala. Permasalahan kedua bagaimana meningkatkan produktivitas usaha kuliner dalam rangkap pengembangan kesejahteraan. Introduction

This co-authored book was researched and written during a time that few had foreseen, let alone prepared for. The impacts of Covid-19 are being felt across the world’s societies, economies and natural environment. Some industries have been more impacted than others, including the international tourism industry. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) predicts that due to the travel related impacts of Covid-19 international tourism could decline by between 60-80% in 2020, with US$80 billion already lost in exports from the industry for the first quarter of 2020 (UNWTO, 2020a). In these unprecedented times, it becomes more important than ever to consider what the future might hold for the industry. By examining current and future capabilities of the industry, this research book explores the opportunities available to shape the future through rebuilding, disrupting and developing greater resilience in the tourism industry. The common theme throughout the chapters is change – no matter how change emerges, the authors of this book recognise that the industry is always going to face times of turbulence, whether it be climate change, political or financial disruptions or pandemics, those in the industry need to have resilience, understand the forces of change and be prepared to adapt. This chapter sets out the core principles associated with anticipating the future of the international travel, hospitality and events sectors. It starts with a broad overview of the global tourism industry, followed by the definitions and scope of the sectors that will be covered in the book. A discussion on tourism futures as an area of research is presented and finally, the sections and individual chapters are introduced.

COALESCENCES IN THE BOOK OF IVAN IOV “PERIODIC SYSTEM OF WORDS”

The article deals with the features of word-coalescences in the book of Ivan Iov «Periodic system of words», which is considered to be the most prominent in the author’s work. Ivan Iov belonged to the leading Ukrainian avant-garde poets to the 20th-21th centuries, leaving a significant trace both in syllabic tonic poetry and in experimental poetry (palindromes, graphic poems, acrostic, brachicolons, logogriphs, collage etc.). Ivan Iov was born in 1948 in the village of Kamianka, in the Apostolove District of the Dnipro region in a large family. He graduated from Kamianets-Podilskyi National Ivan Ohiienko University and then worked as a teacher and journalist. In 1997, he published his most famous and significant collection, «The Periodic system of words», where he continued the traditions of Ivan Velychkovskyi and which became the subject of our research. Particular attention deserves to occasionalisms by the author. In the research book you can identify several groups of coalescences-words, created lexico-syntactical method, on the basis of sued and subordinate phrases, residual phrases (most often prepositions). Also a feature of the creation of neologisms in Ivan Iov is the use of the names and surnames of famous people – friends of the poet, for example, Valerii Basyrov – the editor of this book; Hryhorii Huseinov – writer, laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize; Mykola Zhulynskyi – Director of the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of NAS of Ukraine. In the «Periodic system of words», the coalescences-palindromes (both commonly used and occasional) are also widely represented, which is a decisive feature of the creative manner of Ivan Iov compared with other avant-garde poets. The top of word-formation skill can be considered the poem that gave the collection its name; in it Ivan Iov showed the inexhaustible possibilities of word formation, which in combination with the original author’s style gave us a wonderful example of experimental literature.
