Detecting and resolving writing difficulties is of the utmost importance for student success, mostly because school assessment systems are based on written production tasks. Students writing difficulties come from a variety of sources: neurodevelopmental and language source, among others. The aim of this article is to propose a checklist to identify writing difficulties in young students learning to write. Examples and young student productions of writing difficulties are shown. The examples were obtained in a school training session.

The paper aims to theoretically review the construct of engagement to learning. The recovered authors conceive of engagement as a multidimensional construct, mainly composed of emotional, cognitive and behavioral dimensions. The review carried out allows us to appreciate that certain personal and contextual aspects are facilitators of engagement. Research on the topic has been carried out mainly in the framework of formal contexts. The paper thus integrates diverse perspectives on the construct, taking into account the particularities of the learning context. The description and analysis presented provides tools for professionals involved in the field of education to offer proposals capable of engaging apprentices with their training goals.

This paper deals with how scientific contents related to the water cycle are expressed (6th grade) as well as the role that the teacher´s questions play during an inquiry-based lesson. The research questions of the study were: What scientific concepts are constructed by students and teacher? What kind of questions uses the pre-service teacher in order to guide the thought of students? The employed methodology is based on video-analysis, being the data source a 1 hour video recording. Difficulties are perceived when students try to explain the scientific concepts (evaporation and condensation) in the context of the water cycle. The video allowed us to observe the difficulty involved in making knowledge move forward as the session progresses.

Biodiversity loss is one of the key issues affecting global change. Although the questions related to the problems associated with alien species are at the root of this problem, this topic does not seem to be sufficiently taken on by society. The objective of this study is to find out the level of incidence of this issue at the school, and whether there is a gap in the education system. A survey conducted among secondary education and high school students and teachers, revealed the presence of difficulties in dealing with the issue in the classroom, particularly those related to the level of knowledge and the lack of interest.

In this article, we reviewed the book Botoi bat bezala by Juan Kruz Igerabide. After placing it in its historical context, the study examines the relation it holds with Japanese poetry. The primary objective of this article is to examine the importance of Haiku on the poetry of Igerabide. To achieve this objective, different elements of haiku have been mentioned as well as placed how appeared in the bokk: kigo, atarashimi, toriawase, ellipsis, interactions in farewell or in conversation and the inter-cooperation on the moment of the creation. As secondary objective the importance of image is also mentioned, as well as the understanding of the act of giving birth and death from the point of view of a child. Finally, we have specially considered the structure of the themes across the book.

Increasingly, higher education students have to perform academic works, both research reports and literature reviews, following the format of scientific articles. However, university students often face this type of work with limited prior knowledge of how scientific articles are structured and written. As an evaluation instrument, in this paper we design a checklist composed by 72 items to verify the adaptation of academic works to the formal characteristics of scientific articles in terms of organization of contents by sections; elaboration of text, figures and tables; citing and listing of bibliographic references. This checklist allows learners to self-evaluate the fulfilling of mentioned characteristics during the execution of their work and speed up the evaluation conversations between learners and tutors.

This article shows the results of research to analyze the perceptions of students of the bachelor’s degree in Economics, about learning mathematics, teaching processes, and understanding the Spanish language in which the classes are taught. The methodology used was descriptive, non-experimental, cross-cutting and field. As results, students perceive mathematics as tense; but attractive, with teaching processes that are sometimes not noticeably clear. Successful teaching-learning in mathematics and the disciplines that derive from it are a challenge regardless of academic level. Studies reflecting the relationship of this situation to variables such as language barriers are considered necessary.

The design and implementation of Learning Objects can contribute to the virtualization of teaching, enabling develop our materials or adapt them for a particular teaching situation. This fact becomes of special relevance in circumstances in which we must adapt face-to-face teaching to virtual teaching or under pedagogical approaches based on the flipped classroom. In this paper, we will describe an initiative in which, we have designed with eXeLearning a Learning Object for the study of the urban landscape. eXeLearning allows the creation of diverse, accessible, and friendly resources, allowing instructors to save time in preparing learning materials and facilitating their adaptation to different educational and social needs. We apply this initiative, developed thanks to a Project for Educational Innovation, within the degree of Geography and Spatial Planning of the UPV/EHU, but it could be adapted to other levels of education.

English medium education is spreading in different parts of the world even in higher education. Here we focused on an EMI course offered at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). We analysed a course from Social Education for two academic years, and a total number of 77 students took part. In order to avoid language difficulties due to the low level of English, the teacher allowed the use of Basque and Spanish. Based on the data gathered through classroom observation, focus group discussions and diaries students had to write, students managed to face the course better thanks to translanguaging pedagogies. They did not work much on their English productive skills, but being allowed to use either Basque or Spanish to participate in class and to write assignments has given them confidence and has lowered their language anxiety.

In this paper, 168 researches on Linear Algebra (LA) and Analytic Geometry (AG) at the university are analyzed, with the objective of knowing if these researches deal with the phenomenon of the split between this knowledge and to investigate about the main topics that guide the research on these subjects. An analysis is made using qualitative techniques obtaining a categorization in an inductive way. The results allow us to conclude that the split between LA and AG that operates in the study programs is not addressed by the researchers. Most focus on describing and analyzing students' difficulties with this knowledge, and among the proposals for teaching, the incorporation of software stands out. Only a minority consider, from an epistemological point of view, the benefits of a hybrid teaching between LA and AG.
