Cognitive Task Analysis to Improve Student Competencies: a Pilot Study based on the Use of the Square of PErceived ACtion Model

The aim of this pilot study was to test a method developed in the Cognitive Task Analysis paradigm for adult occupational training in the field of education. The method used was based on the Square of Percieved ACtion (SPEAC) protocol using the SPEAC model (explaining how to successfully put competencies in action). The study was conducted in two secondary education classes, with a sample of 36 students (control group and test group) for an activity in Economics & Social science. The application of this innovative SPEAC-based method resulted in a significant and homogeneous increase in student performance. Beyond showing that the protocol can be applied both for adults and the young and in both occupational and academic contexts, the study demonstrates the benefits in learning and training with this method. Cognitive processes underpinning the improvement in teaching and limitations of the method are discussed.

Parental Influence on Students’ Career Choice and its Effect on Their Academic Performance. A Case of Schools in Rulindo District

The goal of this research was to determine the degree to which parental influences impact job choice and performance among advanced level students in Rulindo District, Rwanda. Additionally, the research intended to identify the interaction between children and parents in terms of profession choice and the value of collaboration. The research population consisted of all 2000 pupils enrolled in Rulindo's three elementary schools. The research surveyed a total of 108 pupils, and they all answered. Providing a response rate of 100%. Purposive sampling was employed to sample three schools in Rulindo District, while simple random sampling was utilized to sample the pupils. Questionnaires were employed to gather data. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages. Tables and graphs were used to show the findings. The study's findings indicated that parental variables had an effect on students' profession choices in Rulindo. These variables included the parents' greatest level of education, their employment, their beliefs and expectations, and their parent-child connections. The research advised that parents and children discuss higher level courses before to enrolling in them, emphasizing on the learner's strengths and preferences in order to minimize potential difficulties. This enables students to make informed job choices based on their educational attainment and professional goals.

Learner and Instructor’s Perception on Discussion Technique in ELT

This study aimed to investigate on how to optimize discussion technique. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The data gained through open ended interview and processed by using data reduction, display data, and conclusion drawing/verification. This study answered two research question. What is the students’ perception on how discussion will be effectively implemented? and What is the teachers’ perception on how discussion will be effectively implemented? The result shows that learning styles in discussion found to be important to consider on how the teacher should treat the students and what teaching technique is best to match their need. The standard of participating in discussion not only when students giving opinion it further whether the students pay attention in discussion. Not only the seating setting is important but also the number of students should be considered on how to implement better discussion class. Learning styles do affect what treatment should be given to the students. Teacher lack affection shows the ineffectiveness of the discussion. Therefore, discussion is considered to be effective if it meets some standards of its effectiveness.

The Influence of Family Socio-Economic, Learning Motivation and Learning Independency on Student Learning Outcomes

This study amis to figure out the influence of Socio-economic, learning motivation and learning independence as anticipated factors affecting students learning outcome. This study is descriptive quantitative study. The data collection method used likert scale questionnaire consisting of negative and positive statements. The data is analysed through graphic presenting. The result of the study shows that socio-economic factor does not have direct effect on learning outcome. Learning motivation shows a positive impact but not consistent while learning independency indicates fairly high impact.
