Recently, several studies on information systems have applied the Uses and Gratifications theory to investigate individual use of social media, and have reported the role of different gratifications in predicting users’ behaviors. However, no attention was given to the influence of these gratifications on users’ emotional states (satisfaction and emotional commitment). To address this research gap, the current study integrates the Uses and Gratifications theory and the Stimulus-Organism-Response theory to provide a theoretical background for the impacts of gratification on consumers’ emotional states and continuance use intention. The study has proposed a theoretical model that was tested on data collected from 252 Sina Weibo users in China. The results revealed that social gratification is the most important factor influencing users’ satisfaction and emotional commitment. In addition, we report the roles that user satisfaction and emotional state provide in predicting users’ continuance intention. The theoretical and practical implications of the proposed theory are also discussed.

This paper tests the factors likely to impact continuance intentions through the medium of online social networks (OSN) for business transactions. The expectation-confirmation theory (ECT) from the consumer behaviour literature is made use of; to forward a set of theories that validate a prior model from IS usage research. Eight research hypotheses, after a field survey of OSNs participants for business transactions were conducted are empirically validated. 300 useable responses from LinkedIn and Twitter social networking platforms users for business transactions were analysed with the WarpPLS 4.0 bootstrapping technique. The study results provide significant evidence in support of perceived trust and user satisfaction, as determinants of the continuance intention of people using OSN platforms for business transactions. Above all, the research model was tested for the moderating effects of usage habit, which was found to impact relationships between continuance intention and perceived trust, resulting in an improved predictive capability of (R2=0.55) as compared to base model of (R2=0.52). The moderating result indicates that a higher level of habit increases the effect of perceived trust on continuance intention.

PurposeZalo is a Vietnam social media platform attracting over 100 m users worldwide. The work aims to ascertain how to boost users' satisfaction, habit and continuance intention toward Zalo based on the expectation confirmation theory (ECT) and its extension through the impacts of expected benefits and emotional motivations.Design/methodology/approachData are collected via an online survey on a convenience sample of 356 Zalo users. Statistical analysis is performed using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) to test proposed hypotheses.FindingsResults indicate that confirmation positively influences expected benefits (i.e. pervasiveness, socialization, and self-discovery) and satisfaction. Moreover, satisfaction and habit are jointly stimulated by expected benefits and emotional motivations. Outcomes also reveal that satisfaction is a motivator of habit, which in turn surmises evidently to continuance intention.Practical implicationsFindings assist practitioners to develop their business trajectories by improving beneficial services of Zalo and positive emotions. This fulfills user satisfaction and habit, and promotes continuance behavior accordingly.Originality/valueConfirmation and expected benefits are acknowledged as the drivers of satisfaction, but existing literature remains inconclusive about dimensions of expected benefits influencing satisfaction and habit in social media. Furthermore, this study, by an extended ECT, explores emotional motivations for satisfaction and habit. Ultimately, habit is uncovered to foster prolonged usage.

Purpose The long-term success of internet banking (IB) services is connected with continuous use. Therefore, examining factors which influence IB user continuance intention is important. Grounded in technology continuance theory, bank transparency and task technology fit (TTF) model, the purpose of this study is to develop a unified technology continuance model to investigate IB user continuance intention. Design/methodology/approach The research model was empirically tested with 348 responses. Respondents included in this study had prior experience with IB services. For hypotheses testing, the structural equation modelling approach was used. Findings Findings indicate that the research model has substantial power in explaining IB user continuance intention. Importance performance matrix analysis revealed that bank transparency had the highest importance in determining IB user continuance intention. Therefore, factors like user satisfaction and perceived usefulness have shown a medium level of importance in determining IB user continuance intention. Satisfaction is influenced by perceived usefulness and confirmation and established a significant impact on IB user continuance intention. Practical implications The findings of this research are useful for bank managers and policymakers to develop and design IB services according to user’s expectations. Results demonstrate that expectation confirmation and perceived usefulness are antecedents of IB user satisfaction and IB user continuance intention. In addition to that bank, transparency has shown a significant effect on user expectation and IB user continuance intention. These findings established that accuracy in sharing bank information and clarity in transaction charges encourage the user to continue the use of IB services. Originality/value The current study develops a unified technology continuance model based on the TTF model and technology continuance theory and investigates IB user continuance intention. Moreover, bank transparency is added in the technology continuance model and established a significant impact towards user expectation confirmation and continuance intention. These findings contribute to the limited body of research in the context of IB user continuance intention and enrich information system literature.

With the growth in technology, organizations have started investing in building technology infrastructure. The application of technology in enterprises has provided various advantages such as low training cost and reliable training content. This study tries to investigate the attributes influencing user satisfaction and continuance intention to use e-training. The study derives ease of use and course content as the factors that can affect user satisfaction which further results in a user’s intention to continuously use e-trainings. Following structural equation modelling (SEM), the results of the study have indicated a significant relation between ease of use, course content and user satisfaction. Furthermore, it has also indicated that continuance intention to use e-training is an outcome of user satisfaction.

User satisfaction is crucial to reinforce continued usage intention of mobile banking (MB). Since IS literature has overlooked continued usage intention of MB and its significance to reflect the success of MB system, it would be important to further the research in this area. This study employs both customization and security, two concerned factors among customers, to examine their impact on satisfaction and MB continuance intention. Extended expectation-confirmation model in IT domain (ECM-IT), developed from TAM and ECM, is used to evaluate the factors affecting satisfaction which in turn affects MB continuance intention. With a sample of a mid-sized US bank customers, regression results reveal that efficiency quality with its underlying factors of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are significant predictors of satisfaction. The interaction effect is significant for customization, but not for security. Theoretical and practical implications are communicated.

This chapter discusses the online social support in the context of social networking sites (SNSs). The pervasive adoption of social networking sites has profound influence on society and enables a new way to provide social support. Social support has been considered a key social value that online users can obtain from social networking sites. Research has shown that social support may reduce stress and promote well-being among diverse populations. Despite its significance to society, the online social support in the context of SNSs has been surprisingly under-investigated. Some fundamental questions—such as (1) What are the dimensions of online social support on SNSs? and (2) How does online social support influence other factors such as the users' satisfaction and continuance intention to SNSs?—have not been answered. This chapter attempts to answer those questions. Specifically, this chapter aims to first identify the definitional dimensions of online social support on SNSs through an extensive review of the literature. Second, this chapter uses these dimensions to model online social support and test its effects on other SNS factors: user satisfaction and continuance intention. Eventually, the results support all proposed hypotheses. The theoretical contributions and managerial implications of the results are discussed at the end of this chapter. 1

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the dimensionality of relational benefits in public bike sharing (PBS) and explore the mediating role of user satisfaction and engagement on the linkage between relational benefits and continuance intention.Design/methodology/approachThis study used a mixed method approach. Data were collected using convenience sampling technique from 411 users of PBS in Bhubaneswar, India. In the first part of the study, in-depth interviews were conducted to identify a set of relational benefits for scale development. In the second part, CB-SEM was used to establish the reliability and validity of the scale and test the hypotheses linking relational benefits with user satisfaction, engagement and continuance intention.FindingsThe analysis suggests that relational benefit is a second order construct having five distinct yet related dimensions namely economic, convenience, environmental, identity related and health and safety benefits. Also, the impact of relational benefits on continuance intention is positively and significantly mediated through user satisfaction and engagement.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is conducted in only one Indian city and is limited to PBS, which, is one of the elements of green transportation and does not cover other modes of transportation. Therefore, generalization of findings beyond this region and the mode of transportation should be done with caution.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the extant management literature by examining the mediating role of user satisfaction and engagement on the linkage between relational benefits and continuance intention which is an unexplored area of research. The study adds to existing knowledge by exploring the dimensionality of relational benefits in PBS context.

The purpose of this article is to develop a research model examining the effects on relationship quality of a cloud service and to investigate the continuance intention of SaaS CRM (Software as a Service Customer Relationship Management) based on SaaS cloud service quality of service (SaaS-Qual) model. As basis theories, the study adopted service quality of SaaS and a post-acceptance model of IS continuance. The study also adds a relationship of quality as a moderate variance to validate the feasibility of cloud service. An online survey and a paper-questionnaire were used to collect data, and most respondents were experienced with using SaaS service for CRM for at least one year. The research causal model was validated by using SEM, and all eight study hypotheses were supported. These results indicate that relationship quality played an important role in influencing users' satisfaction and trust of SaaS's CRM service. High SaaS service quality could also increase users' intention to use cloud service continuously. SaaS CRM service providers should focus on enhancing relationship quality through motivational cloud service needs and SaaS CRM service features to increase user satisfaction and enhance levels of trust to promote continued use of SaaS service on the internet. This study contributes to a theoretical understanding of how relationship quality and cloud service can affect continuance intention.
