The use of gamification in higher technical education: perception of university students on innovative teaching materials

<span lang="EN-US">The use of social media is one of the predominant features in the average daily life of students and lecturers across tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It was against this backdrop that this study was carried out to determine the role of social media in reshaping the future of academic activities among lecturers of Vocational and Technical education in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. A structured questionnaire consisting of 40- items was developed by the researcher for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Kuder Richardson (KR20) formula which yielded 0.85. The population of the study comprised lecturers from the two Colleges of Education in Niger State.  Four research questions guided the study. The findings revealed among others that social media is a technological tool that can reshape the future of teaching Vocational and Technical education as it brings with it new opportunities which is capable of promoting collaborative teaching and learning as well as the potential to promote and reshape the future of higher education in institutions of learning. Furthermore, the trend according to the findings of this study revealed that the overwhelming patronage is in terms of making new friends (online), playing games, exchange of affectionate/love messages, online chatting, sharing selfies, spreading false information, hate speeches, and even quarrelling with virtual friends. On the basis of these findings, some recommendations were made which among others include the need for the college management to mount capacity building programmes to retrain the lecturers to understand the concept of social learning and to keep them abreast with innovative teaching and learning platform such as social media.</span>

The purpose of this research is to develop digital book and to examine the effect of this book on student’s achievement. This study uses a modified Borg &amp; Gall (1983) design consists of needs analysis, planning and development of teaching materials, expert validation, revision, field trials to produce the final product, and dissemination of research. Research conducted on the university students in East Java who have taken accounting computer courses. Validation is done by a lecturer as a material expert and a lecturer as a learning media expert. After going through a series of validation experiments, a flip book that is packaged in a compact disk will be disseminated to students and lecturers. Expert validation results show that this flip book based digital book has met the criteria of "very feasible" to be used as a learning medium and used in computer accounting course study.

This study aims to develop teaching materials of economic learning assessment through scientific approach. The research used Research and Development (R&D) method that developed by Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel that includes defining phase, design stage, and development stage. Data were collected from the assessment of three experts through an expert validation sheet and responses from 40 students through student response questionnaire. Data analysis using quantitative descriptive technique. The result of the research showed that the teaching materials are suitable for learning through the scientific approach on the course of the Economic Learning Assessment. of material experts with an average score of 89.47% (very good) and student response results with an average score of 86.45% (very good). Some suggestions from the experts include in the teaching material description section added with illustrations in the form of drawings or schemes; and equipped with concrete examples in accordance with the contextual situation. While the suggestions from the students are also in line with the advice of the expert team that is also equipped with concrete examples to be more reproduced.

The first part of the study describes the rationale and justifies the design of the teaching units; the second part presents the text of a mock lesson.

Innovative teaching material’s varied, interesting, contextual according to the needs of students, one of teaching material is comic. LeDoux (1994) in Porter (2010) who says comics are alternative instructional material for learning, due the involvement of emotions readers will greatly affect memory and will recall lessons learned material. This study aims to produce comic teaching materials. The teaching material are created by using Power Point 2010 and Microsoft program Adobe Photoshop. Type of research is the research and Development (R & D) that uses 4D models. This comic is tested to 20 learners Grade VIII SMP Negeri 11 Batam on literary facet, cereal, graphic, communication and interest learners. In terms of literary, performance, appropriateness of content, graphics, software and communication validated by educators in SMP N 11 Batam and Universitas Riau Kepulauan lecturer 6 people. The technique of data collection is administering and exercises in which learner are then description using a Likert’s scale. Feasibility of teaching materials made from the result of the percentage of questionnaire analysis expert lecturer and aducator materials obtained by 83.9%, amounting to 81.6% of media expert, questionnaires learners by 89.05%, and from the analysis of learner training gained mastery learners by 80%. The results showed that this comic worth of teaching materials used on the human respiratory system. Keywords : Development, Comics, Human Respiratory System

Abstract: Field conditions show that learning fractions in class V requires innovative teaching materials. This study aims to test the validity and practicality of the developed E-Module. The ADDIE model is used in this development. Product validation got the results of 98.68 percent declared valid. Material validation got a percentage result of 83.33 percent declared valid. The practicality test from users (teachers) got a percentage result of 94.23 percent which was declared practical and the practicality test of students got a score of 88.59 percent which was declared practical. So the validation and practicality of the product are declared valid and practical. Abstrak: Kondisi lapangan menunjukan pembelajaran pecahan di kelas V membutuhkan bahan ajar yang inovatif. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menguji kevalidan dan kepraktisan E-Modul yang dikembangkan. Model ADDIE digunakan pada pengembangan ini. Validasi produk mendapat hasil 98,68 persen dinyatakan valid. Validasi materi mendapat hasil persentase sebesar 83,33 persen dinyatakan valid. Uji kepraktisan dari pengguna (guru) mendapat hasil persentase sebesar 94,23 persen dinyatakan praktis dan uji kepraktisan peserta didik mendapatkan nilai sebesar 88,59 persen dinyatakan praktis. Jadi validasi dan uji kepraktisan produk dinyatakan valid dan praktis.

The purpose of this research is to develop teaching materials ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) in subjects Self Development skills in a special program of vocational skills such as making skills of the rest of the patchwork mat and look for alternative learning model development Self Development skills required of teachers in accordance with the child's ability mentally retarded that still form an outline of the learning program.The research was conducted in SLB C East Jakarta. The subjects of research that high school teachers and students  mentally retarded LB C. Outcome or product part of this research is the study of ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) in subjects Self Development skills in a special program of vocational skills makedoormats from the rest of the patchwork.The results of this study are expected to contribute to the implementation of innovative teaching model for teachers SLB C through the development of teaching materials ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) in practice the skillsself help Mentally Retarded Children in order to achieve self-reliance to improve the quality of life of chldren with  intellectual challenges.

The Arabic language course program is a compulsory course for second semester students department in Islamic Education (PAI) Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN) Semarang. This study aims to describe the students' needs for communicative Arabic based teaching materials for students department in Islamic education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education (FITK) UIN Walisongo Semarang. The results of this study indicate that 41.56% of students require renewal of Arabic course material developed with communicative principles that contain topics of Islamic education in accordance with the department of Islamic education. these materials include Quran-Hadith, Aqedah, Tafsir, Sufism, Fiqh and Islamic History..</p><p class="ABSTRACT"> </p><p><strong>Abstrak</strong><strong></strong></p><p class="KEYWORD">Bahan ajar adalah salah satu komponen penting yang dibutuhkan dalam proses pembelajaran. Entrepreneurship education in open and distance education is usually taught only through modules. Research on university students shows that this education model cannot provide a good understanding of entrepreneurial values. Students also stated that they did not have any direct experience in entrepreneurial activity. Based on the results of the study, the Economic Education Study Program of the Open University develops a model of education and development of Entrepreneurship Education Course which is called the New Generation of Teaching Materials. Entrepreneurship Education Course aims to have students to possess entrepreneurial values ​​that can be taught back to their students. The materials contained in the Entrepreneurship Education module should be designed so that university students have entrepreneurial values ​​and gain hands-on entrepreneurship concepts. This experience is gained through the activities of the Field Work Practice for two months. Research on the development of education materials for Entrepreneurship Education was conducted with Research and Development mathematics model of the combination between Gall and Borg 1983 and 2007. Research in the first year resulted in (1) Analysis of entrepreneurship education materials on open and distance education; (2) The design of teaching materials based on the input of entrepreneurial experts; and (3) Instructional Strategies of entrepreneurship teaching materials. The teaching materials of entrepreneurship education are delivered through printed materials in the module form. The material in this module is enriched with interactive video and web supplement.
