This study establishes an eco-friendly anti-wrinkle treating process for cotton fabric. Sodium hydroxide-liquid ammonia pretreatment followed by 6% (w/w) PU100 adding citric acid pad-cure-dry finishing. In this process, citric acid (CA) was used as the fundamental crosslinking agent during finishing because it is a non-formaldehyde based, cost-effective and well wrinkle resistance agent. Environmental-friendly waterborne polyurethane (WPU) was used as an additive to add to the CA finishing solution. Six commercial WPUs were systematically investigated. Fabric properties like wrinkle resistance, tensile strength retention, whiteness, durable press, softness, and wettability were well investigated. Fourier transform infrared spectra and X-ray diffraction spectra were also measured and discussed before and after adding waterborne polyurethane. Tentative mechanism of the interaction among the WPU, CA, and modified cotton fabrics is provided. The effect of cotton fabric pretreatment on fabric performance was also investigated. After the eco-process’s treatment, the fabric wrinkle resistant angle was upgraded to 271 ± 7°, tensile strength retention was maintained at 66.77% ± 3.50% and CIE whiteness was elevated to 52.13 ± 3.21, which are much better than the traditional CA anti-wrinkle finishing based on mercerized cotton fabrics. This study provides useful information for textile researchers and engineers.

Abstract Background Management of diabetic foot infections (DFI) is challenging and involves multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes (1). Appropriate wound care of patients with DFI plays an important role in successfully curing infections and promote wound healing. In Singapore, Infectious Diseases (ID) specialists help in the management of DFI by recommending appropriate antibiotics for infected wounds while wound debridement are managed by Podiatrists (POD). When patients are hospitalized multidisciplinary teams including Vascular Surgery review patients. In the outpatient setting patients have multiple appointments including ID and Endocrinology etc. The time spent and costs incurred by patients for traveling to multiple appointments is considerable. A joint ID-POD clinic was initiated to reduce the cost and inconvenience for patients. Methods A joint weekly clinic was initiated in October’16 and the data was analyzed upto May’17. Finance was involved in deriving costs. The service costs for consultations payable by patients before and after the initiation of the joint clinic were compared. Results First 6 months experience of initiating the joint ID-POD clinic is reported. 35 unique patients had a total of 88 visits. 1/third of the patients had more than 2 visits to the joint clinic. For each visit to the joint clinic the patient paid 25% less compared with having separate clinics. The hospital lowered the service cost for the new clinic by 11%. This was done by minimizing the time involvement of the ID physician. Conclusion Joint ID-POD clinic for managing diabetic patients with foot infections revealed several advantages. Hospital outpatient visits for each patient decreased by 50% for those requiring care of both ID and POD, without compromising care. With the consolidation of care each individual patient had a cost savings of 25% for the joint consultation. This joint clinic while making it convenient for patients has revealed significant cost savings to patients especially for those requiring multiple visits. We recommend hospitals with high prevalence of Diabetes and Diabetic foot infections to consider joint ID-POD clinics to reduce hassle and increase saving for patients. BACKGROUND: Pediatric patients immobilized for certain procedures, such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), are at high risk for developing hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs). PURPOSE: To evaluate the rate of HAPI occurrence in ECMO patients before and after implementation of prevention interventions. METHODS: Patients younger than 18 years of age who were placed on ECMO from January 2012 through March 2020 were identified, and patient data, including the development of a stage 3, 4, or unstageable pressure injuries, were abstracted. From August 2018 through December 2018, HAPI prevention interventions were implemented, which included targeted HAPI prevention and ECMO provider education, fluidized positioner provider education, and the addition of 2 wound care interventions for ECMO patients. RESULTS: Of the 120 ECMO patients identified, 5 (4.2%) developed a HAPI. All patients developed HAPI in the occipital region, and 1 patient developed an additional HAPI on their back. The median age of patients with HAPI was 1 month (interquartile range [IQR], 0.3–6.8 months). The median duration from ECMO cannulation to identification of HAPI was 9.5 days (IQR, 4.8–32.3 days). The median total run time was 4.9 days (IQR, 2.5-7.6 days): 8.5 days for patients who did develop a HAPI and 4.8 days for those who did not develop a HAPI (P = .02). The overall HAPI rate dropped from 4.8% of ECMO patients before quality improvement interventions to 0% of ECMO patients after quality improvement interventions. CONCLUSIONS: The development of stage 3, 4, or unstageable HAPIs in pediatric ECMO patients was low (4.2%) over the period studied (January 2012 through March 2020). As of the time of this writing, no HAPIs occurred after implementation of provider education in 2018.

Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the effects of tea tree oil on damaged hair.Methods: A texture-improving agent was produced by adding different dosages of tea tree oil (i.e., 0, 2, 4, and 6 g) on sample hair. Comparative analysis was conducted by measuring the effects of the agent before and after application to sample hair bleached into level 8. To examine changes in hair brightness, L* value was measured using a color difference meter. In addition, to determine the effects of the agent on damaged hair, the study measured tensile strength, absorbance using methylene blue, and hair gloss.Results: The mean L* value for each sample increased for healthy hair but decreased in the 8L samples. Analysis indicates that the healthy hair, 8L(4) sample, and 8L(6) samples pointed to significant results. The mean value for tensile strength increased for all healthy and 8L hair samples after application. Specifically, the 8L(4) and 8L(6) samples displayed significant results. In terms of absorbance, the mean value decreased for all healthy and 8L hair samples after application. Moreover, hair gloss values increased for samples applied with the agent containing tea tree oil. Specifically, the 8L(2), 8L(4), and 8L(6) samples exhibited increased values after application.Conclusions: The results confirm the effects of tea tree oil on damaged hair in terms of improvements in terms of tensile strength, absorbance, and gloss. The study recommends that further research on the effects of various oils and natural extracts on damaged hair is necessary in terms of improving other hair characteristics and using more samples.

Diabetic ulcer is caused by damage to the skin nerves due to reduced blood flow. Pain and anxiety when wound care begins when dressing and cleaning the wound. Murottal therapy is a distraction technique in the form of al-quran records, decreases stress hormones and provides a feeling of relaxation. The purpose of this study was to reduce the level of pain and anxiety during wound care in patients with DM ulcers after being given murrotal therapy in RSUD K.M.T. Wongsonegoro Semarang. The research method with quasi experimental pre-posttest control group. a sample of 17 people in the intervention group and 15 in the control group. Sample selection with total sampling. The murrottal listening intervention group played for 3 times for 15 minutes. Respondents were conducted pre and posttest with NRS pain measuring instruments and DASS anxiety. The results of the Wilcoxon test in the intervention group obtained p = 0,000, there were differences in the level of pain between before and after murotal therapy and p = 0.002 there was a difference in the level of anxiety between before and after murotal therapy. In the control group obtained p = 0.02, there were differences in the level of pain between before and after murotal therapy and the value of p = 1.00, there was no difference in the level of anxiety between before and after given murotal therapy. Conclusion: Murrotal therapy can reduce the level of pain and anxiety during wound care for DM ulcer patients.

The significance of composite materials and their applications are mainly due to their good properties. This imposes the need for their recycling, thus extending their lifetime. Once used composite material will be disposed as a waste at the end of it service life. After recycling, this kind of waste can be used as raw materials for the production of same material, which raises their applicability. This indicates a great importance of recycling as a method of the renowal of composite materials. This study represents a contribution to the field of mechanical properties of the recycled composite materials. The tension mechanical properties (tensile strength and modulus of elasticity) of once used and disposed glass-epoxy composite material were compared before and after the recycling. The obtained results from mechanical tests confirmed that the applied recycling method was suitable for glass-epoxy composite materials. In respect to the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity it can be further assessed the possibility of use of recycled glass-epoxy composite materials.

Teknik pembalutan luka saat ini menerapkan metode perawatan luka modern dengan cara mempertahankan isolasi lingkungan luka dalam keadaan tertutup dan lembab. Ada beberapa jenis pembalut luka yang telah dikembangkan, salah satunya hidrogel. Hidrogel merupakan pembalut luka berbentuk lembaran yang memiliki kemampuan menyerap cairan luka dan memiliki stabilitas yang baik pada pH asam sehingga dapat digunakan untuk pengobatan luka bakar. Dalam penelitian ini, hidrogel dibuat menggunakan polimer alami seperti pektin dan gelatin. Kedua bahan tersebut dikombinasikan menggunakan metode ikatan silang dengan penambahan asam sitrat sebagai agen pengikat silang. Penambahan asam sitrat memberikan pengaruh terhadap karakteristik material hidrogel yang dihasilkan, sehingga diperlukan jumlah yang tepat agar didapatkan hidrogel dengan properti material yang baik. Hidrogel juga ditambahkan zat aktif berupa flavonoid pada ekstrak kulit buah naga agar dapat digunakan sebagai pembalut luka untuk menyembuhkan luka bakar. Dari hasil penelitian, hidrogel dengan konsentrasi asam sitrat 4% (Hidrogel CA 4%) menghasilkan nilai swelling, tensile strength, dan elongation tertinggi sebesar 890%, 0,05 Mpa, dan 200%. Hasil properti mekanik dari Hidrogel CA 4% ini dibuktikan dengan uji FTIR yang telah dilakukan, yaitu munculnya gugus karbonil C=O sebagai hasil reaksi esterifikasi yang terjadi antara polimer dengan asam sitrat di daerah serapan 1733,9 cm-1.Wound dressing technique currently applies modern wound care methods by maintaining the environmental isolation of the wound in a closed and moist state. There are several types of wound dressing that have been developed, one of them is hydrogel. Hydrogel is sheet-shaped wound dressings which have the ability to absorb exudate and have good stability acidic pH that can be used for the treatment of burns. In this study, hydrogel were made using natural polymers such as pectin and gelatin. The two polymers were combined using crosslinking method with the addition of citric acid as a crosslinking agent. The addition of citric acid has affect on the characteristics of the hydrogel material produced, therefore the right amount is needed to obtain a hydrogel with good mechanical properties. Hydrogel also added by an active substance in the form of flavonoids from dragon fruit peel extract that can be used as a wound dressing to cure burns. This study resulting hydrogel with a concentration of 4% citric acid (Hydrogel CA 4%) produced highest value of swelling, tensile strength, and elongation are 890%, 0.05 Mpa, and 200%, repectively. The mechanical properties of Hydrogel CA 4% was proved by FTIR test that had been carried out, namely the presence of C=O carbonyl group as a result of the esterification reaction that occurred between the polymers and citric acid in the absorption area of 1733.9 cm-1.

This paper studies a polymer composite material - a unidirectional organoplastic based on Rusar-NT aramid fiber and a melt epoxy-polysulfone binder. Organoplastic has the following mechanical properties: tensile strength 2060 MPa, Young's modulus 101 GPa. The microstructure of the fiber and the polymer matrix in the organoplastic samples was studied before and after tensile tests. The features of the formation of the binder structure depending on the packing density of the fibers in organoplastics have been determined. The nature of the destruction of fibers and polymer matrix caused by the uniaxial tension has been studied.

Tensile test at loading velocities up to 10 m·s-1(strain rate up to 3.2x102s-1) was carried out forr SiCp/AC4CH composite and AC4CH alloy. The microstructure of the composite before and after tensile deformation was carefully examined with both optical microscope and SEM. The experimental results demonstrated that the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield strength (YS) increase with increasing loading velocity up to 10 m·s-1. Comparing with AC4CH alloy, the fracture elongation of the composite is sensitivity with the increasing strain rate. The YS of both the composite and AC4CH alloy shows more sensitive than that of the UTS with the increasing strain rate, especially in the range of strain rate higher than 102s-1.
