Activity of fast growing broiler chickens is known to decrease at two to three weeks of age, whereas slower growing hybrids are not only more active, but remain so throughout the growth period (Reiter and Bessei, 1998). The present experiment aimed to monitor diurnal patterns and time courses of activity in groups of commercial broilers fed one of two feed types differing in energy content. Activity was assessed using passive infrared detectors (PIDs), which sense movement of an object with a temperature different from that of the background.

This paper presents research results on the effect of protease on the dressing percentage of conventionally dressed carcass and body conformation in broiler chickens. Broiler diet was supplemented with 0.2% protease (group E-I) and 0.3% protease (group E-II), and protein content in the feed was reduced by 4% (E-I) and 6% (E-II) through a decrease in soybean meal content. Fast-growing Cobb 500 broilers were used for a 63-day fattening trial. Body conformation measurement included absolute carcass conformation measures (metatarsus length, keel length, breast depth, breast angle, thigh girth) and relative body conformation measures - conformation indices (body weight/metatarsus length, body weight/keel length, body weight/breast depth, body weight/thigh girth). Results showed a significant effect of sex on the dressing percentage of conventionally dressed carcass and all body conformation measures, whereas diet had a significant effect on the dressing percentage of conventionally dressed carcass and breast angle values.


A research of quantity dots-in-well infrared photo detectors (QDIPs) produces helpful outcomes for creating a twocolor QDIP. Quantum dot infrared photo detectors (QDIPs) have been shown to be a main technology in mid-and longwavelength infrared detection owing to their capacity for normal incidence operation and low dark current. This research explores infrared detectors based on intersubband transitions in a novel heterostructure of InAs / In0.15 Ga0.85 As / GaAs quantum dotsin-well (DWELL). The InAs quantum dots are also positioned in an In0.15 Ga0.85 in the DWELL framework, which in turn is well positioned with the In0.1Ga0.9As obstacle in GaAs quantum. Using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the optical characteristics of the sample were researched using photoluminescence and photocurrent. Spectrally adjustable reaction was noted at 6.2μm and 7.5μm with prejudice and lengthy wave IR reaction

Broiler chickens in Brazil are generally reared from 1 to 42 days when they are exposed to procedures such as fasting, harvesting, crating and transport to slaughter. Maintaining homeostasis is of great importance for broiler survival under harsh environment especially prior to slaughter. Heat loss varies in the distinct parts of the body during the growth period, and it is related to the air temperature of the environment and to the amount of feather covering. This research aimed to study the surface temperature distribution using infrared thermographic image processing to characterize 42 day old broiler chicken surface temperature prior to slaughter. Broilers were reared for 42 days and prior to harvest and transport to slaughter the infrared surface temperature was recorded along the day. Data from the thermograms taken in feather and featherless regions were compared during the 42nd day of growth. High correlation between featherless regions and air temperature was found showing that these areas respond fast to changes in the rearing environment. Two functions were developed for predicting both surface temperature for featherless and feather covered areas of the broiler body parts.

Reducing the energy content of broiler diets could lead to the formulation of diets with reduced production cost. Dimethylgycine (DMG) has been used as a dietary supplement to enhance dietary fat utilization in poultry. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of DMG supplementation in reduced energy diets on performance and nutrient digestibility in broiler chickens. Four hundred and eighty day-old broilers were randomly allocated to three dietary treatments: a standard energy diet (PC treatment), a reduced energy diet by 66 kcal/kg (NC treatment) and the reduced energy diet supplemented with 500 mg/kg of DMG (DMG treatment). Fat digestibility was significantly higher in DMG group, compared to PC and NC groups. Intestines and gizzard lesion scores were found to be lower in the DMG group compared to PC. DMG supplementation resulted in lower jejunum pH and ileum viscosity in broilers. Overall, the present study showed that DMG supplementation in reduced energy broiler diets restored growth performance to the levels obtained with a standard diet. This result was probably mediated by the positive effects on the gastrointestinal function of the broilers after DMG supplementation, as evidenced by the improved nutrient digestibility, the reduced gross lesion scores and the lower values in intestinal pH and viscosity.

ABSTRACTInSb1−x Bix (0.01 < × < 0.14) and InAsSbBi quaternary alloys are potentially attractive materials for the development of semiconductor infrared detectors covering the 8–14 μm range [1,2,3].We report for the first time, MOCVD growth of InSo1−x Bix (0.01 < × < 0.14) and InAs1−x−y Sbx Biy with 0.5 < × < 0.7 and 0.01 < y < 0.04 on both GaAs and InSb substrates using AsH3, TMSb, TEI and TMBi. Electrical measurements of the undoped InSo0.99 Bi0.01 shows a background carrier concentration of approximately 1016/cm3 and a room temperature mobility of 20,215 cm2/V.sec. To-date, these are the best reported electrical measurements for this ternary alloy.The formation of a secondary Bi phase and single crystal growth of metallic bismuth-antimony at the surface of InSo1−x Bix which results in deterioration of morphology with increasing values of x is also investigated. A wide range of analytic techniques, including SEM, EDX, electron microprobe and AES have been employed in our surface analysis.

During growth period of 6 to 7 weeks, broiler chickens are exposed to different stressors, the effects of which are dependent on the type, duration and intensity of stress that affects the bird. Stress-induced changes in muscular metabolism alter the physico-chemical traits of meat, thus affecting its quality (Ali et al., 1999). The negative effect of ante-mortem thermal stress on the quality of broiler meat has been the object of many studies and is relatively well documented (Warriss et al., 1999). There is a scarcity of data on whether and to what degree hyperthermia in growing chickens affects the technological parameters of poultry meat. Therefore we carried out an experiment to determine the effect of 5-day heat stress in 4-week-old broiler chickens on their later meat quality.
