ABSTRACTThe year 1976 was a violent one in Nicaragua. In an effort to quash the Sandinista guerrillas, the dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle had declared a state of siege, suspending constitutional guarantees, muzzling the press, and unleashing the Guardia Nacional. Despite the dangers of dissent, thousands of students across the country walked off their secondary school campuses that year to protest poor funding, inept teachers, and oppressive administrators. This article examines this series of strikes to uncover the ways in which teenagers managed to organize their schools and communities in spite of the repression that marked the final years of the Somoza regime. Analyzing student documents, Ministry of Education records, and newspaper reports, this article argues that in the context of a decades-long dictatorship, student demands for more democratic schools opened a relatively safe pathway for cross-generational activism that forced concessions from the Somoza regime. By the 1970s, secondary schools had come to reflect the state's authoritarianism and mismanagement, and widespread educational deficiencies brought students and parents together in a joint project to demand better schools. Battles over the quality of education, thus, showcased the power of an organized citizenry and laid the groundwork for the revolutionary mobilizations that were to come.

It seems that educational system in Nigeria has undergone only quantitative improvement in terms of number of schools and students’ enrolment. However, there has been little effort in respect to the capacity to manage them through provisions of adequate financial, human, material and physical resources. Physical and material resources in secondary schools were discovered to be inadequate and poorly equipped. Some of the secondary school buildings were dilapidated, also the allocated financial resource, teaching and non-teaching staff are grossly inadequate compared with the students’ enrolment. The public, the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in education are expressing serious concern about the consistency of the poor performance of secondary school students especially in mathematics. Increase in population and the government’s free education programs make people want to take advantage of the education provided. Provision of both professionally qualified and non-qualified teachers by government and non-state providers of education also appear not to ameliorate the problem of declining performances in mathematics. The effect of all these on the public secondary school student academic performance in mathematics concern the researchers of this study. It is against this background that the study sought to empirically investigates effect of resource factors and quality of instruction on performance in mathematics of Nigeria secondary school students.

This paper is concerned with concepts such as quality of education, evaluation of the standard of the work of the teacher and comparison of educational results. It points to the importance of standards and the difficulties involved in their implementation. It also discusses the concept of competence and its relevance to framework educational programmes and the further education of teachers. The paper also focuses on a number of trends in education that are less widely discussed: instability — permanent change, reduction of education, emphasis on topicality and practical applicability, underestimation of the system, etc. The final part of the paper presents a current project from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic — a proposal for career progression.

This article discusses the importance of standardized testing as a means of assessing learning and determining the level of knowledge and use of foreign languages like English. It is very well known that since the second half of the twentieth century efforts were made in order to come up with valid and reliable measuring instruments for linguistic and communicative competence of a person in foreign languages. This began in the area of field research and ongoing reviewing processes to ensure the quality of testing procedures. Today, in a globalized world with many possibilities for mobility of students, teachers, and researchers standardized tests have been popularized and institutionalized in different countries. Colombia has not been the exception and starting from the beginning of this century the Ministry of Education has implemented the standard promoted by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages which enables standardized measuring levels of English as a foreign language in students, teachers and professionals in general.

In 1992, the Ministry of Education and Culture in Namibia created a new language policy for schools that presented the possibility of using English as the sole medium of instruction for students starting in Grade 1. The resulting increase in schools that offer only English instruction has been detrimental to education. In order to improve the quality of education available to students in Namibia, the implementation of the language policy must be revisited so that students have the opportunity to first learn in their mother tongues and develop the necessary skills that they will need to be successful.

One of the objectives is to prepare learning outcomes (LO) that have competitiveness with their competitors. In addition, also to prepare the LO has the power sanding so that it can be in harmony with the era that has entered this disruptive era. The paper is intended to see how the policy relevance of the government to address the problem. The author uses a management approach in reviewing existing data. This paper uses literature review and is reinforced with data from the field. The results of this paper are several facts - including the following alternative facts: the government through the Ministry of Education with the policy of Curriculum 2013 and Kemenristek Dikti through the Presidential Decree on the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI) began to make efforts to improve education. There is a paradigm shift, previously focused only on cognitive development, or already towards the affective and psychomotor spheres but still very minimal, and unstructured evaluation, is now more systematic to achieve not only the cognitive, but affective, psychomotor sphere by considering multiple intelligence. Based on these facts it can be concluded that there is a match between education and community needs, so that the crisis of moral decadence, the competence of hope can be overcome. On the same side, the 2013 curriculum is nothing but a government instrument to control the quality of education that is oriented towards quality assurance. Finally, the government -designed education is expected to encourage LOs capable of competence, competitiveness and sanding power that is in harmony with the times. The Qur’an has a comprehensive view of the conception of education. Among the core of education is literacy. Student’s literacy skills are able to lead the nation’s generation to be literate and discover their potential. PISA research results in 2018 prove that Indonesia is ranked more than 10 and below in several assessment areas, such as reading, mathematics and science. The PISA 2018 data shows that the level of literacy in Indonesia is still low. Apart from the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) to develop educational policies, students also have a role as booster of the quality of education. Seeing the conception of literacy education from the perspective of the Qur’an, the KATABA Ma’had Al-Jami’ah became the object of research. The existence of this community acts as a support for the literacy atmosphere in the Ma’had environment which contributes to developing the world of writing and research. Through the qualitative method used in this study, the authors found that KATABA is a manifestation of the practice of the concept of literacy in Al-‘Alaq verses 1-5. The existence of literacy community among students contributes to the academic development of students. An increasing achievement index is one indicator of the success of the community in increasing the level of education in higher education.
