Since the 1950s, Pakistan has been trying to industrialize by investing in industries that have low value-added, notably cotton textiles. Here, low value-added means that the export value of the cotton textiles less the value of the raw cotton used to make them was low relative to the cost of the investment needed to make the textiles, i.e., contrary to the usual assumption, cotton textile manufacture was capital-intensive. The cause was the protection of the importing countries. But goods with high value-added in this sense required advanced technical knowledge, which is mostly the proprietary knowledge of the firms whose research and development (R&D) has generated it. Over time, all the production of goods that do not require such technical knowledge has passed to low-wage countries whose mutual competition keeps the value-added low. Since Pakistan cannot compete in high-value-added goods, it must emulate the East Asian economies by collaborating with firms in high-wage countries—i.e., subcontracting them to make simple components—and progress through such collaboration to receiving the knowledge and training to making components with higher value-added.

Abstract In this article we evaluate the determinants of the Employment in Innovative Enterprises in Europe. We use data from the European Innovation Scoreboard of the European Commission for 36 countries in the period 2000-2019 with Panel Data with Fixed Effects, Panel Data with Random Effects, Dynamic Panel, WLS and Pooled OLS. We found that the “Employment in Innovative Enterprises in Europe” is positively associated with “Broadband Penetration in Europe”, “Foreign Controlled Enterprises Share of Value Added”, “Innovation Index”, “Medium and High-Tech Product Exports” and negatively associated to “Basic School Entrepreneurial Education and Training”, “International Co-Publications”, and “Marketing or Organizational Innovators”. Secondly, we perform a cluster analysis with the k-Means algorithm optimized with the Silhouette Coefficient and we found the presence of four different clusters. Finally, we perform a comparison among eight different machine learning algorithms to predict the level of “Employment in Innovative Enterprises” in Europe and we found that the Linear Regression is the best predictor.

From the earliest modern academic literature of industrial organization, supervision education and training, managerial considerations involve leveraging to improve the work of the supervisor and supervisee, and accentuating the value added opportunities for work improvement (Dawson, 1926, pp. 293-295). Reflecting the incorporation of the ‘pastoral’ within the industrial, Kadushin’s model of supervision has short and long-range objectives. The short-range objective is “to improve the [knowledge] worker’s capacity to do [his or her] job more effectively”. The long-range objective is to instill the capacity to perform a “particular service” that the organization is mandated to offer (Kadushin & Harkness, 2002, p. 20). This article discusses the concepts of mindfulness and pastoral care in teaching practices. By defining both pastoral care and mindfulness and situating them in a context of relational teaching practice it is argues that self-esteem, confidence and student focused support may be enhanced by the application of concepts from auxiliary health fields.

This paper focuses on a group of Asian countries that have successfully increased exports and found a common industrial strategy. Several key factors emerge from this study. First, countries that have managed to increase their exports focused on doing so in sectors in which they had expertise while slowly developing new export sectors at the same time. Second, high-growth Asian economies have developed their export sectors by making a significant move up the quality ladder and, in particular, moving away from low value-added to higher value-added exports. Third, there is no single economic policy that has worked across Asia; rather, successful exporters have used two or three policies in tandem to boost exports. Fourth, industrial policy has been coordinated with education and training policies to develop both the entrepreneurs and the workforce needed to produce high value-added exports. Finally, the only consistent factor that has an impact on high value-added export growth is domestic credit to the private sector. These results point to the urgent need for a coherent industrial strategy to boost Pakistan’s exports (preferably before future trade agreements are signed, which could otherwise damage potential export sectors).

The future competitiveness of any nation, including its agriculture, is inextricably tied to understanding and effectively participating in global markets. Major opportunities exist for farmers to produce, process, and export agricultural products, especially value added products, if they had knowledge of global opportunities. Most of the information and services are available for them to achieve this objective. The Cooperative Extension System (CES) can provide a mechanism to deliver educational programs on global marketing opportunities and training on procedures for capitalizing on these opportunities. County agents from Virginia and California working with their mushroom producers helped them respond to a year round shitake order from the United Kingdom. This has resulted in an ongoing market for these producers. Other similar examples in horticulture will be discussed.

Mexico's Academic Synergy Network-MyPyMES developed a project called "The Intellectual Capital of mSMEs of the area of influence of the Technological Universities" to carry out an analysis of the indicators that make up the Intellectual Capital: active intangible value-added and competitive advantages for business development; was done to determine the value of the Skandia Browser Model approaches with a web-mobile application. The type of research was exploratory, cross-cutting and with a mixed approach, the survey technique was used by applying a questionnaire to 32 MSMEs of the Tula-Tepeji area. As a result, it was found that most do not have financial data or administrative procedures to determine the five approaches of Skandia Browser, the most important thing for companies is to sell; however, they do not conduct market research, very few are led by a professional who applies strategic planning, or have a definite mission or vision; Managers also do not know what Intellectual Capital is, do not attach importance to the development and training of staff, do not use ICT's as a management tool, do not evaluate processes or implement continuous improvement. It was concluded that the MSMEs in the buffer area present an area of opportunity to develop their intellectual capital, therefore higher education institutions must assist in the training of entrepreneurs and design a model to implement appropriate methodologies and procedures that promote intellectual capital.
