The increased population and economic of the community indirectly affect the amount of household waste produced by the community. Unfortunately, this is not accompanied by good waste management from the community level. Management of household waste at the community level can be done by sorting waste. The habit of people to dispose of garbage without sorting can be a problem in implementing 3R activities (Recycling, Reducing, and Reusing). The purpose of this study is to find out what factors influence the community in sorting household waste. This research is based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) which considers several factors such as attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral controls to influence someone to make intentions in behavior and expand the TPB conceptual model to overcome gaps. The results of this study came from a survey with 301 respondents in two locations namely DKI Jakarta and Depok. The results of this study indicate that attitudinal factors have the most significant influence on the intention and behavior of sorting garbage. While other factors such as demographics, subjective norms and perceptions of behavioral control do not have a significant effect.

The research sample was 120 people, which consisted of the direct behavior category and indirect behavior. These two categories were identified after socialization on waste and household waste management was carried out. Based on statistical tests, there is a partially significant influence between knowledge of waste management on people's behavior in managing household waste. The results of statistical tests also show that there is a partially significant influence between attitudes about waste management on waste management behavior. In addition, the statistical test results show that there is a simultaneous significant influence between knowledge and attitudes about waste management on the behavior of Bekasi Regency residents managing household waste to cope with flooding. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the majority of Bekasi Regency residents have good knowledge, attitudes and behavior towards household waste management such as not littering and not burning garbage. The structural equation modeling (SEM) were used in this study and the result showed that the model accounted for relatively substantial amount (61.7%) of the variance in intention, with the attitude, subjective norm, and environmental knowledge and awareness emerge as significant predictor.  Above findings could be used by both governmental and non-governmental organization to formulate strategies to manage food waste at the household level.

In response to growing importance of household waste management issue, this article deals with the positioning of household waste transfer points from a government-organized waste perspective. By taking Surakarta, a municipality in Central Java, Indonesia as an example, the problem in the municipality is formulated as an MILP, is approached with a capacity-weighted set covering method, and finally is solved by using software LINGO 11. The article concludes that the transfer point alternatives of Sondakan Kuburan, Norowangsan, SPSA, Pajang Rel, Bonoloyo and Kedung Tungkul should be selected in order to be able to serve all the household waste producers for the maximum household waste generated. On the contrary, the selection of Sondakan Kuburan, Bonoloyo and Kedung Tungkul only should be able to provide service to all of the household waste produced for the scenario of minimum amount of household waste.
