With the integrated development of transportation and tourism, building tourism highways has become a new direction leading the transportation industry and also an important sector of green transportation. Currently, the planning, design and construction of tourism highways in China are at their early stage, and there are few relevant codes, specifications, and standards concerning the planning and design. This paper introduces the connotation of Tourism Highways, and clarifies the scope and principles of the planning and design. It puts forward the planning and design concept of coastal tourism highways, and carries out planning and design practices for coastal highways in Guangdong based on the concept.

Modern trams have been widely used around the world, especially in China. This paper explores the main influencing factors of modern trams’ passenger flow at the early operational stage. The system dynamics model is adopted for dealing with the problem on hand. Tram Line 1 in Huai’an, Jiangsu Province, China is selected as the case study. Data are collected using the RP and SP survey. The sensitivity test and extreme condition test are performed. The simulation results demonstrate that four variables (i.e., land development intensity, fares, service level, and transfer efficiency) significantly affect passenger flow. Land development intensity is the most significant factor, and the effect of service level on passenger flow is higher than that of the fares. The departure interval of 10 minutes is the maximum psychological limit that passengers can bear, and 2 RMB is a reasonable price. Such conclusions can provide guidance for the planning and design of modern trams and address the problem of shortage of passengers at an early stage.

Current trends are showing that the popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) has significantly increased over the last few years, causing changes not only in the transportation industry but generally in business and society. This paper covers one possible angle to the (r)evolution instigated by EVs, i.e., it provides the data science perspective review of the interdisciplinary area at the intersection of green transportation, energy informatics, and economics. Namely, the review summarizes data-driven research in EVs by identifying two main research streams: (i) socio–economic, and (ii) socio–technical. The socio–economic stream includes research in: (i) acceptance of green transportation in countries and among different populations, (ii) current trends in the EV market, and (iii) forecasting future sales for the green transportation. The socio–technical stream includes research in: (i) electric vehicle battery price and capacity and (ii) charging station management. This kind of study is especially important now when the question is no longer whether the transition from internal-combustion engine vehicles to clean-fuel vehicles is going to happen but how fast it will happen and what are going to be implications for society, governmental policies, and industry. Based on the presented literature review, the paper also outlines the most significant open questions and challenges that are yet to be solved: (i) scarcity of trustworthy (open) data, and (ii) designing a generalized methodology for charging station deployment.

The thesis analyses the early stage of the planning and design in Taiyuan xicun renovation project from the green building perspective. It summarizes the strengths and shortages on the basis of Four Conservations and One Protection (area conservation, energy conservation, water conservation, material conservation and environmental protection). By analyzing the problems in planning and designing modern residential area, this thesis aims to provide some suggestions to the green building idea.

Sports venues and outdoor landscape is an important part of city green space system, is the embodiment of city landscape ecology, the subject is the city's ecological function. Starting from the venues, sports venues and building purpose and audience of visitors to the needs and behavior characteristics of people-oriented, fully consider the human needs and ornamental demand, planning and design of high grade, the deep connotation of the sports venues and outdoor space environment. Detailed summarized the main content of sports venues and outdoor landscape planning and design and construction management, the in-depth study of the sports venues and outdoor landscape planning design and construction management method. From the angle of landscape image analysis and planning and design of sports venues and outdoor landscape, the landscape elements simplified and summarized, and the outdoor landscape projects in the planning design and construction management process problems are discussed.

This paper looks at the use of design practices in start-up firms for the creation of strategic advantage through product/service innovation. Start-ups face non-negligible challenges during the early-stage of development. The research questions examined to what extent design practices can provide the leverage needed to face these challenges. A 4-day Innovation by Design Challenge workshop provided the field for the research carried out. Participants were start-up firms each working together with two designers to form six teams. Methods used included: observation for the mapping of team activities; a short self-report questionnaire and; pre- and post-workshop semi-directed interviews with the start-ups. The findings support the idea that design practice integration into the initial development of a start-up can indeed provide a lever for success and provide the start-up with the strategic vision needed to go through the early-stage and bring their products/services to market successfully.

Purpose Blockchain technology has fascinated researchers and industry professionals. Since its birth, the attention for blockchain has been exponentially increasing, however, most of the industries are still skeptical in adoption for value creation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the actual level of implementation and diffusion of blockchain technology within the logistics and transportation industry by comparing and using the collective intelligence of academic literature and industry practices of implementation of blockchain in this domain. Design/methodology/approach This study uses the methodology of systematic literature review along with inductive reasoning. The systematic literature review of academic and industry frontiers together has brought a bigger and real picture into consideration. Findings The results highlight that, within the transportation sector, currently there is a very low diffusion of blockchain, although applications show immense promises for the future. The various application where blockchain technology can make a significant impact are also identified. Research limitations/implications Due to the early stage of experimentation with blockchain technology, high-quality data which is relevant to the optimized usage of this technology in the logistics and transportation industry is not available. Practical implications The study will help the practitioners in identifying additional avenues in which they could implement blockchain for the effectiveness, efficiency and growth of the logistics and transportation industry. Originality/value The analysis of mixed sources of information for undertaking systematic literature review by assessing academic and trade publications is a novelty of this study.

Standardization for environmental protection in the transportation industry is an important driving force for the development of green transportation. This study introduces the current status and main problems of environmental protection standardization in transportation. In addition, major countermeasures, such as strengthening the system construction and basic support, are studied and proposed to provide theoretical support and research basis for future standardization in related areas.
