In today’s world, green development has become an important trend, and many countries regard the development of green industry as an important measure to promote economic restructuring. Green development is consistent with sustainable development in ideology. China’s economy is in the stage of high-quality development. As an important foundation for China’s external economic development, the free trade zone can play a good role in promoting its green and high-quality development. Based on the data of 18 free trade zones in China in 2020, this paper explores the green and high-quality development path of the China Pilot Free Trade Zone. Firstly, the green development index is constructed according to the existing research and experience, and then the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method is used to evaluate the green and high-quality development path. The results show that the development of pilot free trade zones is not the result of a single condition but the result of a combination of green policy effectiveness, foreign investment participation, green production growth rate, and other conditions. Combined with the green and high-quality development path, this paper further provides enlightenment for the development of the China Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Based on socioeconomic statistical data, transport data, and network big data, the urban connection index (UCI) was constructed in terms of industry, transportation, information, and innovation, and the high-quality development index (HDI) was established from five aspects: innovation, coordination, green development, openness, and sharing. Taking Lanzhou-Xining urban agglomeration as a case, the urban connection intensity and high-quality development level were measured to analyze the relationship between them. From 2012 to 2018, the UCI and HDI of each city showed different degrees of growth. Note that there exist significant regional differences, with Lanzhou and Xining having the largest difference. The biggest gap among cities lies in the innovative connection intensity. Moreover, urban external connections are closely related to high-quality development, especially innovation and green development. For every 1% increase in industrial and transport connection, the HDI will increase by 0.317% and 0.159%, respectively. This study provides a methodological reference for measuring urban connectivity and provides decision support for high-quality development in China and other countries.

With the introduction and application of 5G, the digital economy has become a new driving force for the high-quality development of agriculture. This study takes the digital economy as the development-oriented ‘digital village’ Hebi City as a case, and analyzes the practical basis for the digital economy to promote the high-quality development of agriculture in China from three aspects: power change, quality change and efficiency change. This paper explains the theoretical mechanism of digital economy to promote the high-quality development of agriculture from four perspectives of infrastructure, technological innovation, talent training and industrial development, and strives to realize the three major changes in agriculture through digital economy, accelerates the digital transformation and upgrading of agriculture in China, and promotes the high-quality development of agriculture.

High quality is the direction of development, innovation drives high-quality development, and interest incentives drive innovation. Existing studies have shown that executive equity incentives can increase the financial performance of enterprises. Therefore, can executive equity incentives promote the high-quality development of enterprises, thereby improving the quality of industrial development? This paper takes China’s knowledge-intensive enterprises as a sample from 2015 to 2019. On the basis of using the LP semiparametric estimation method to measure the total factor productivity of the enterprise, in accordance with the intermediary effect test procedure, the stepwise regression method is used to study the innovation-driven effect of the executive equity incentives on the quality of enterprise development. The study found that executive equity incentives have an inverted U-shaped impact on the high-quality development of companies, with 20% being the optimal ratio. There is a partial mediating effect in corporate innovation activities on this transmission path. Based on this, suggestions are made to share residual income with senior management and build a high-quality innovative production chain.

Background China’s economy has been transitioning from a phase of rapid growth to high-quality development. The high-quality development of industry is the foundation of a sustainable and healthy growth of national economy, and is of great significance to improve people’s living standards, and to meet people’s needs for a better life. Methods We develop an evaluation index system of high-quality development of industry from the perspectives of industrial benefit, innovation ability, coordination ability, green ability, opening ability and sharing ability. Based on a panel data of 30 provinces in China during 1999–2018, we evaluate the level of high-quality development of industry using the entropy-weight method and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. Meanwhile we select six specific years and adopt the Natural Breaks method to classify the provinces according to their levels. At last, Moran’s I index is used to analyze the spatial correlation among the provinces. Results Opening ability and innovation ability are found to have greater impacts on industrial high-quality development than other indices, and their influence has been increasing in recent years. There are large spatial and temporal differences among different provinces. Municipalities and coastal provinces are found to be at constantly high levels. The levels in the central region dropped first and then increased, however it was the opposite in the western region. In the northeast region, the levels fluctuated greatly. Overall, the high-quality development of industry among China’s provinces shows positive spatial correlation. Most provinces in China are in High-High and Low-Low clustering States. The High-High clustering type is mainly distributed in the eastern region and the Low-Low clustering type is mainly distributed in the western and central regions. Conclusion (1) Innovation ability and open ability are the most important factors. (2) Green ability has not sufficiently contributed to China’s industrial development. (3) Regional and time evolution differences are significant. (4) There is a significant and stable spatial clustering effect in the high-quality development of industry among China’s provinces.

High-quality guided development and environmental forcing are two routes for China’s green development, and each has different focuses and outcomes. The aim of this study is to clarify coordinated mechanisms to reveal the reasons and determine paths for China’s green development. A research framework for synergetic evolution is established, and the Haken model is applied to analyze the different effects of high-quality development that guide resource- and environmental-forcing mechanisms. This research showed that: (1) the preferred route and key factor in China’s green development is high-quality developmental guidance; (2) high-quality development and environmental-forcing mechanisms are non-coordinated, and while the former might coordinate with the latter, the latter does not; (3) mutual promotion of high-quality developmental guidance and the resource mechanism was not observed; (4) the critical point coordinated value is 0.5686 for China’s green development. Eastern China possesses a relatively high level of green development, while the north, east, west, and central areas of the country still have much progress to make.

Abstract Ensuring industrialization and energy security in a positive direction at the same time is significant to achieve high-quality development of the regional economy. This study attempts to provide two evaluation index systems for industrialization and energy security in the new era and discuss the impact of industrialization on energy security in the new era. In doing so, industrialization in the new era is evaluated by the ratio of quality expansion and quantity improvement during industrial development, then the evaluation system of energy security is put forward which has a total of 18 indexes in three dimensions, including energy supply security, energy consumption security, and energy supply-demand matching security. Entropy weight is used to evaluate industrialization and energy security levels of 30 provinces in China, then we compare respectively the changes of industrialization and energy security before and after the new era. Next, we examine the impact of industrialization on energy security in the new era for 30 provinces in China during the period from 2008 to 2017 by using the panel Tobit model. The study shows that: in the new era, the industrialization is pursuing high-quality development at a faster pace but energy security is threatened by deteriorated supply-demand matching security; there is an positive relationship between industrialization and energy security, and also supply security and consumption security, but the positive relationship between industrialization and matching security is not statistically significant; GDP per capita can inhibit energy security, green technology efficiency and the ratio of capital to labor will improve energy security. Finally, some suggestions are put forward from four aspects: building an environment-friendly development model, encouraging green technological innovation, optimizing the input structure of factors, and building a dynamic balance of energy supply and demand.
