Tourism transportation is the foundation and necessary condition for the development of tourism. Tourism transportation has a profound impact on the development of local tourism economy. Both sides complement each other and promote together. For one thing, a well-developed tourism transportation network can attract more tourists to visit and accelerate the development of the tourism industry. For another, the development of the tourism economy will counteract the construction of the tourism transportation network. This paper selects Zhongshan Road in Xiamen City to conduct a questionnaire survey to analyze the choice behavior of Xiamen’s tourism transportation mode.

Including an active participation of stakeholders along the transportation decision-making process is increasingly recognized as a necessary condition for reaching successful and high-quality decisions. This paper presents a framework for deciding on the appropriate transportation strategy for a supply chain from a multistakeholder perspective. It consists of three steps: (1) defining the transportation-strategy decision-making context and the objectives that must be achieved; (2) analyzing the actual transportation strategy regarding its three components: transportation network; transportation mode; and transportation insource/outsource, as well as identifying the stakeholders interested in the study; and (3) conducting a group decision making regarding each transportation strategy’s component, while involving the key stakeholders and taking into account the specificities of transported products. The proposed framework is then applied to a real case of the Moroccan public pharmaceutical supply chain, which has different features that distinguish it from other supply chains including its importance, urgency, and regulation. We employed the DELPHI method to determine the key stakeholders that should be involved in the decisional process. After that, we applied the group AHP method for selecting the appropriate transport-network design option while involving the identified key stakeholders.

Township tourism in South Africa has grown in popularity since 1994 and is considered by some researchers to be an appropriate mechanism for stimulating local economic development. Opportunities for the development of black-owned enterprises in South Africa began for the first time when the country integrated into the global tourism economy after many years of international sanctions. The growth of township tourism thus can provide the context for potential economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs to enter the business, an activity that traditionally has been the domain of established white South African entrepreneurs. The main objective of the study is to present findings on the challenges that face a certain group of small tourism enterprises in townships with more attention being specifically paid to Umlazi as the second biggest township in the Southern hemisphere. The main reason for the choice of the study is due to the fact that there is only a limited literature that explores the conditions of small-scale and informal tourism entrepreneurs operating in South Africa’s black townships. The focus falls upon the challenges of developing small tourism entrepreneurs for black owners in the township, especially because South African tourism industry is highly concentrated and dominated by small elite group of large, mostly locally owned, tourism organizations which drive the tourism economy that unfortunately excludes and sidelines that of the townships

The study aims to answer the question concerning how effectively cities of the Siklós district can involve the surrounding settlements in the tourism economy, thereby promoting the development of rural areas. In addition to local governments and tourism organizations, our important goal is to understand the ideas of service providers and their guests related to rural development, as well as the space use characteristics of the latter group. The key method is the questionnaire survey, the target group of which is the mayors of all settlements in the district, as well as the guests of the accommodations belonging to the different product types. The primary sources are based on two further series of interviews, which explore the opinions of service providers and professional organizations. Empirical experience shows that thematic trips can play a prominent role in the development of the less frequented small settlements. The essence of this is to connect the places offering traditional crafts and local products by a bike route.

An unreliable and inefficient public transportation system can be a barrier to the successful development of a destination’s tourism industry. Uber, a convenient ride-hailing service, can complement underdeveloped public transport and play a significant role in stimulating the tourism economy by increasing tourists’ mobility and accessibility to attractions and service facilities. Using the data of 48 sub-Saharan African countries, this study conducted propensity score matching and difference-in-differences analysis to empirically examine the influence of Uber on a country’s tourism industry. The results showed that Uber contributed $20 million annually in total tourist spending—$24 per tourist spending—on average, to a country’s economy between 2013 and 2016. However, it did not have a significant influence on the number of international arrivals. The findings of this study provided insights into the benefits of Uber service in promoting per tourist spending by providing a reliable and efficient means of travel.

The implementation of expressway toll-free policy during holidays in China has caused serious congestion and frequent accidents on expressways. Many studies have explored the policy’s macroscopic outcome and its countermeasures for policy managers, while limited attention has been paid to the influence mechanism of the policy on the individuals’ travel behavior, especially the mode choice behavior. More insight into the dynamic effects of individuals reacting to policy measure is needed. This study aims at analyzing the adaption progress of the individual’s mode choice behavior and estimating the time-varying influence of the traffic policy on the mode split. With assumptions travelers’ adapting behavior conform to the inertia and myopia principles, a Logit dynamic evolutionary model for mode choice is proposed. A unique globally stable equilibrium state for the model is derived with the strict mathematical analysis. As an application, the influence of the expressway toll-free policy on mode split is evaluated. The travel cost structure, the sensitivity of the travel distance and traffic supply, and the evolutionary dynamics of the mode split are analyzed in scenarios with and without the expressway toll-free policy. The result indicates that travel distance and network’s total supply amount remarkably affect the implementation effect of the policy.

Abstract Yogyakarta International Airport in Temon, Kulon Progo, is projected as a replacement for Yogyakarta Adisu-tjipto International Airport. This new airport requires an intermodal passenger transport, which is a mode of transportation that needs to be prepared to connect the airport with the supporting cities served. In this study, a questionnaire survey involving 1,000 respondents was conducted. The survey was conducted at Adisutjipto Airport to find out the origin and destination of passengers in using the mode of transportation to and from Yogyakarta International Airport. Based on the origin and destination data, a map of the airport service area is made. The proportion of the choice of transportation mode was used as the basis of the potential passenger demand for a route. The route of intermodal transportation is found to be from and goes to 10 points, namely Borobudur, Kebumen, Magelang, Purwokerto, Purworejo, Temanggung, Wates/Sentolo, Wonosari, Wonosobo, and Yog-yakarta. The operational costs of intermodal passenger transport are Rp9,570.53 per kilometer. The average passenger fare per kilometer is Rp1,042.07. The tariff for various routes is more realistic in describing the distance, with an average deviation of Rp38.24 and a range of Rp141.55. Keywords: intermodal passenger transport, airport, tariffs, operational costs  Abstrak Yogyakarta International Airport di Temon, Kulon Progo, diproyeksikan sebagai pengganti Bandar Udara Internasional Adisutjipto Yogyakarta. Abstract The Greek economic crisis of 2009 onwards has affected all aspects of social and economic life of the country, including transportation. Taking into account the link between the economic crisis and transportation, the present study aims to investigate the way that the economic crisis has affected the interurban travel rail habits of the citizens of Athens, the capital of Greece. We conducted a study, using a questionnaire survey with 400 participants, to investigate the general trends concerning the purpose and the frequency of railway travelling and the restrictions of their travel activities due to the economic recession. The results of this study show that more than half of respondents declared that there is not any great difference in their use of rail as transport during last years, while they express a positive opinion as they attribute it to the higher safety and comfort of railway compared to other transportation modes. However, the cost of the ticket and the provided level of service are two significant factors for the participants for the choice of their transportation mode.
