In this paper authors overviewed the most important stages of ceramics production process which give significant influence on final properties of product. Often density and porosity on the all producing stages determines exploitation ceramics properties. A calculation method for fractions ratio selection which provides optimal density is suggested here. Also, density changes during operations of grinding, forming, thermal treatment and sintering a row of specimens are researched and analysed. The data received allow to predict semi products size behaviour while producing and get definite final part with dimension required.

Besides the basic and auxiliary production of any industrial company, there is also a servicing production achieved after the activity to store and respectively to transport. The storage must provide the material resources needed by the basic production. The necessary material resources are stored in various constructive types of warehouses taking into account the structure and nature of the stored materials. The storage activity management uses an indicator system, the calculation method of which takes into account the warehouse size and the volume of materials that are stored and how long they will stay in the warehouse. Regardless of whether they are within companies, between the production departments or between the working stations, transports very much condition the basic production efficiency. Internal transports are based on a series of principles and are performed in various ways. Every transportation system has a certain structure, a certain cost, and a certain duration of the transportation process. When making an industrial company’s internal transportation efficient, the rationalisation of transportation has a very significant influence.

The cooling and heating resources contained in urban sewage have significant influence on the “energy conservation and emission reduction”. From the point of extensive utilization, the paper put forward the concept of sewage thermal-energy utilization plan, and discussed the types, goals, principles, content and steps of the plan. Selecting principles and flow-volume calculation method of flow nodes were also illustrated. The study results provide reference for industrialization of urban sewage thermal-energy resources application in construction.

Breeding programs seek to reduce the time spent assessing characteristics more times than necessary. However, this reduction should in no way undermine the representativeness and reliability of the information. Thus, an important success factor in breeding programs is the knowledge of the ideal number of assessments needed to evaluate commercially important characteristics in each species or population. In this context, this study aimed to determine the repeatability coefficient of eight biometric traits in four populations of ornamental pepper, seeking to increase the efficiency of evaluation and selection processes. There was no significant influence of the calculation method used over the estimate of the repeatability coefficient. The results indicated that five plants are necessary to assess plant height; leaf number, length and width; and fruit number, length and width in the ornamental pepper material we used with a determination coefficient of 90%.

5S concept has a great effect on site-improvements, and it has been used to promote productivity, improve the environment of production process, and upgrade the working ability of workers etc. In this paper, 5S concept has been used to balance the production line, and S production line has been shown as an example. In addition, line balance chart and production line utilization rate calculation method have been used to exhibit the effect of 5S site-improvements on production line balance and increasing productivity.

This chapter is devoted to capital and investments in the three groups of tablets found in the Vesuvian cities: the tablets of L. Caecilius Iucundus in Pompeii; those of Herculaneum; and the tablets of the Sulpicii (also known as the Murecine tablets) which have to do with transactions carried out in Puteoli. These contain almost no evidence of innovation; on the contrary, they bear witness to a wide range of economic activities and give much information on capital and investments. Among these investments, it is necessary to distinguish two categories: firstly, investments that involve lending money and charging interest, without the lender being directly involved in a given production process or business (this type of investment is discussed in the second part of the chapter); and secondly, investments that are to the contrary accompanied by direct involvement of the lender in production or in commercial activity (investments discussed in the third part of the chapter). The first part of the chapter studies the ways in which a group of freedmen might manage to amass a certain capital and to have investments. The final part is devoted to the dealings which Caecilius Iucundus had with the city of Pompeii.

In this work are described the possibilities for improving efficiency of wood pellets production. The introductory part is devoted to analyzing the properties of wood pellets, combustion and production of pollutants when combusted it. The production of wood pellets and used pelleting machines was analyzed. The main task of this work is to introduce efficiency pelleting lines and cost reduction of the wood pellets production as fuel with a focus on the effects of adding additives. The results of experimental measurements and properties of wood pellets with different additives are presented in the final part.

A calculation example of the longwall face crew selection, including taking under consideration stochastic character of the production process is presented in this study. On the basis of observation of duration of activities realized in the hard coal mine longwall face with use of the roof cut and fill system, the calculations with use of the proposed crew selection method have been executed. The method in question takes into consideration stochastic character of the realized production process (Snopkowski & Sukiennik, 2012). In the final part of this study, graphical interpretation of the executed calculations has been presented.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities of using the Pareto method in evaluating the effectiveness of machine production processes. The paper deals with the production process of material cutting using progressive technology and subsequent evaluation of its effectiveness and quality. In the production process, we have used the method of material cutting by abrasive water jet. The Pareto analysis was used for eliminating the shortcomings in the quality of the final part.
