This paper addresses operation strategies of the physical showroom under e-commerce, and studies joint decisions of the showroom service and pricing based on product quality. First, we propose an analytical model to capture the feature of consumer purchase behaviors and model three operation strategies of the physical showroom: the cooperation operation (CO), the manufacturer operation (MO), and the e-retailer operation (RO). Then, the equilibrium solutions in the above three strategies are obtained based on product quality, and the optimal operation strategy is analyzed. Besides, we extend the model to the scenario of endogenous product quality. The results are as follows. First, in contrast to the conventional wisdom, we find that the optimal showroom service may decrease with product quality when the production cost coefficient is high. Second, the results illustrate that enterprises should consider both product quality and production cost before opening physical showrooms. When the production cost coefficient is low, both the MO strategy and the RO strategy are better than the CO strategy, which means that the enterprise should open the physical showroom separately than jointly. However, when the production cost coefficient is high, the CO strategy provides the optimal showroom service. The enterprises in the supply chain should cooperate to balance costs and benefits. Besides, when product quality is endogenous, our analysis reveals that the RO strategy may offer better product quality than the CO strategy when the production cost coefficient is moderate.

Evidence for and against the idea that “two heads are better than one” is abundant. This chapter considers the contextual conditions and social norms that predict madness or wisdom of crowds to identify the adaptive value of collective decision-making beyond increased accuracy. Similarity of competence among members of a collective impacts collective accuracy, but interacting individuals often seem to operate under the assumption that they are equally competent even when direct evidence suggest the opposite and dyadic performance suffers. Cross-cultural data from Iran, China, and Denmark support this assumption of similarity (i.e., equality bias) as a sensible heuristic that works most of the time and simplifies social interaction. Crowds often trade off accuracy for other collective benefits such as diffusion of responsibility and reduction of regret. Consequently, two heads are sometimes better than one, but no-one holds the collective accountable, not even for the most disastrous of outcomes.

The cascade correlation algorithm that is CC algorithms, CC network structure and CC network weights learning algorithm are introduced, based on the operation data of Wanjiazhai hydropower station, considering the pressure fluctuation, the network model of vibration characteristics is established based on CC algorithm, and the applications of CC and BP algorithm in vibration characteristics of turbine are compared. The results show that the CC algorithm is better than BP neural network, the results can be used in the optimal operation of hydropower, and it has a practical significance.

The technical paper discusses the reduction of high leakage current failures of semiconductor IC (integrated circuit) packages by eliminating the ESD (electrostatic discharge) events during assembly process and ensuring the appropriate machine grounding and ESD controls.  It is imperative to reduce or ideally eliminate the leakage current failures of the device to ensure the product quality, especially as the market becomes more challenging and demanding.  After implementation of the corrective and improvement actions, high leakage current occurrence was reduced from baseline of 5784 ppm to 1567 ppm, better than the six sigma goal of 4715 ppm.

LPDs are non-bank financial institutions that are regulated and approved by the Regional Regulations of the Province of Bali. The management of LPD is fully handed over to the relevant Pakraman village. In line with the rapid development of LPDs, it turns out that on the other hand it shows diverse performance, so that LPDs need to pay attention to the level of product quality and customer interest in the products offered.            The purpose of the study was to determine the comparison of product quality and interest in saving at the Tajun Traditional Village LPD with the Traditional Village of Tegal. The number of samples from Tajun Adat Village LPD was 98 people and the LPD of Tegal Traditional Village was 84 people. The research data were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney Test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the quality of the products of the Adat Village of Tajun LPD and the Traditional Village of Tegal. This difference is indicated by indicators of physical evidence, reliability, responsiveness and empathy. The product quality of Tajun Adat Village's LPD is better than the traditional village of Tegal. There is a significant difference between the interest in saving the traditional village of Tajun LPD and the traditional village of Tegal. The difference is in the indicator of confidence. Interest in Saving Tajun Indigenous Village LPD is higher than the Traditional Village of Tegal.

This brief overview includes some of the Canadian industrial experience gained recently with UHT processing of milk and other dairy products. Emphasis is placed on the differences between direct and indirect heating systems in terms of process engineering, product quality, consumer acceptance, public health aspects and economy. Documented advantages include less fouling, better heat transfer and less heat damage to the final product for direct systems, and less elaborate requirements for ancillary equipment and lower costs for indirect technology. Market performance data from some of the four industrial Canadian producers of 2% and chocolate milk indicate better than expected consumer acceptance due to product quality and other market-related aspects of the UHT process.

We construct a statistical ensemble of games, wherein each independent subensemble we have two players playing the same game. We derive the mean payoffs per move of the representative players of the game, and we evaluate all the deterministic policies with finite memory. In particular, we show that if one of the players has a generalized tit-for-tat policy, the mean payoff per move of both players is the same, forcing the equalization of the mean payoffs per move. In the case of symmetric, noncooperative and dilemmatic games, we show that generalized tit-for-tat or imitation policies together with the condition of not being the first to defect, leads to the highest mean payoffs per move for the players. Within this approach, it can be decided which policies perform better than others. In particular, it shows that reciprocity in noncooperative iterated games forces equality of mean payoffs. We prove a simple ergodic theorem for symmetric and noncooperative games. The Prisoner's Dilemma and the Hawk–Dove games have been analyzed, and the equilibrium states of the infinitely iterated games have been determined. In infinitely iterated games with the player choosing their moves with equal probabilities, strict Nash solutions are not necessarily reachable equilibrium solutions of games.

This paper discusses a computational method for optimally allocating dimensional tolerances for an automotive pneumatic control valve. Due to the large production volume, costly tight tolerances should be allocated only to the dimensions that have high influence to the quality. Given a parametric geometry of a valve, the problem is posed as a multi-objective optimization with respect to product quality and production cost. The product quality is defined as 1) the deviation from the nominal valve design in the linearity of valve stroke and fluidic force, and 2) the difference in fluidic force with and without cavitation. These quality measures are estimated by using Monte Carlo simulation on a Radial-Basis Function Network (RBFN) trained with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of the valve operation. The production cost is estimated by the tolerance-cost relationship obtained from the discrete event simulations of valve production process. A multi-objective genetic algorithm is utilized to generate Pareto optimal tolerance allocations with respect to these objectives, and alternative tolerance allocations are proposed considering the trade-offs among multiple objectives.

In this article, an enhanced water cycle algorithm (EWCA) is proposed and applied to optimize the operation of multireservoir systems. Three improvements have been made to the water cycle algorithm (WCA). They refer to high-quality initial solutions obtained by the chaos-based method, balancing of exploration of streams using a dynamic adaptive parameter, and dynamic variation of sub-water system size using the fitness value of rivers. For the purpose of verifying the improvements, three typical benchmark functions were selected as test functions. It has shown that EWCA performs better than WCA and water cycle algorithm with evaporation rate (ER-WCA). And then these three algorithms were also applied to optimize the operation of a multireservoir system with complex constrains as the case study. By comparing the results, it is found that the EWCA has higher ability to find a feasible solution in a narrow searching space. The effectiveness of the improvements is confirmed.
