The article examines the main trends in education, including legal education. The authors studied the Federal Law “On Education”, educational standards, and a number of industry laws; identified the positive and negative sides of digitalization of education, and also separately studied the impact of distance learning in the conditions of coronavirus restrictions as a side of digitalization. It is concluded that the transition to a new paradigm of education corresponds to the constitutional values of Russia. The competency-based approach creates prerequisites for the creative development of a person based on his/her activity and involvement in the learning process. Digitalization in education makes it possible to optimize and improve a number of educational procedures; however, as the authors showed in the study, it also has negative sides in legal education. The distance learning mode as part of digitalization also received a mixed assessment. The authors concluded that universities should carefully comprehend the experience of digitalization and distance learning in the conditions of coronavirus restrictions in order to eliminate problems and improve the educational process.

The primary task of the 21st century education is not anymore to transfer continuous information, but the skill to acquire independently and learn this knowledge during lifetime. In the future, the development of transversal skills plays an important role in the educational process. Transversal skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving, creativity and innovation, self-guided learning, cooperation, civic participation and digital literacy, are raised in the framework of Education Reform in Latvia (Skola 2030, 2017). The beginning of the learning process during the stage of primary school is an essential step in transversal skills acquisition, particularly emphasizing the impact of the Classes 1-3 stage, on the further learning process. According to the outcomes determined in the standard of primary education to be achieved, it is necessary to develop significantly transversal skills in this stage, as well as observe carefully the changes in children’s age development that affect the possibilities of transversal skills development. The goal of the research:  analyse the development of transversal skills in primary school (Classes 1-3).Research method: content analysis of the education content regulating documents and scientific literature.

Distance education is essentially the basis for the development of educational institutions that provide innovative services, which cannot be obtained elsewhere. It is believed that distance education is a substitute for the traditional as part of simplifying and cheapening the learning process. At the same time, the leading global trends suggest the need for the development of elements of self-education and the expansion of the geographical nature of educational offers. The relevance of the study is that it is necessary to distinguish between the use of distance education methods in the traditional sphere and the sphere of training professionals. The paper presents the concept of the need to integrate elements of distance education in the process of preparing university teachers. The authors believe that teachers in drawing up courses and applying learning technologies use the same techniques as in distance learning. Therefore, the use of distance learning technologies can be shown as the basis for the development of advanced training programs and additional professional education. The authors proposed a study on the need and sufficiency of the use of distance education technologies and the possibilities for their integration into the process of postgraduate education. The practical significance of the work is determined by the fact that the possibilities of self-development of teachers are fully disclosed, not only as subjects of the educational process but also as subjects of training.

Students' motivation is studied quite regularly, but most often it occurs from psychological and pedagogical positions [1; 6; 7; 9]. However, students do not just go to university, they work to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for the development of their future profession, so the learning process must be viewed through the prism of work motivation. The peculiarity of this research is the reliance on research methods that allow us to study this aspect of students’ activity, in particular, the V.I. Gerchikov’s method with some changes that are inevitable due to the specifics of an educational process. The purpose of the study is to determine the factors that affect the motivation of educational activities. The theoretical part of the study describes the main approaches to motivating students' learning activities, as well as the specifics of relationships in the process of studying at the university, which does not allow direct use of methods and practices that have appeared in the framework of theories of labor motivation. As a result of the research conducted in 2019 on the main massif of the 1st and 4th years of full-time education in the Izhevsk State Agricultural Academy by questionnaire (n=781), significant differences in the motivation of students of different groups and faculties were revealed, which allowed us to assume that there are problems in the educational process, which we have not previously recorded. To determine the causes of significant differences in the motivation of individual groups, focus group studies were conducted (n=92) in 6 study groups, where 2 with low average motivation, 2 with middle average motivation, 2 with high average motivation. The authors analyzed the reasons for failure and non-attendance of classes, the organization of the educational process, the specifics of relationships in groups, the impact of the division into subcultures on the learning process and relationships in a group, leisure-time of students, their ideas about the desired changes in the educational process.

The COVID-19 pandemic has a very broad impact. This pandemic not only affects health, but also education. This is because measures to prevent the spread of the virus require the application of physical distancing. With the application of physical distancing, conventional learning in the classroom cannot be implemented, so distance learning media is needed to continue the teaching and learning process. Learning media in an educational context is a very strategic instrument that helps determine the success of the teaching and learning process. This is because with their limitations, humans are often less able to capture and respond to things that are abstract or that have never been recorded in their memory. Media can support learning by providing a deeper understanding of the material being discussed. This study aimed to design, build and test a business simulator application integration system (SIMBIZ-Integrated) as a distance-learning medium that could help the learning process which has been disrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition, this research examines the current conditions of media utilization in distance learning and the effectiveness of the use of business application media in introductory business courses. Keywords: Distance Learning Media Integration System, Integrated Business Simulator Application (SIMBIZ-Integrated), Prevention of the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Purpose: Simulation-based training improves clinical skills, while minimizing the impact of the educational process on patient care. We present results of a pilot multidisciplinary, simulation-based robotic surgery basic skills training curriculum (BSTC) for robotic novices. Methods: A 4-week, simulation-based, robotic surgery BSTC was offered to the Departments of Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology (ObGyn) at the University of Toronto. The course consisted of various instructional strategies: didactic lecture, self-directed online training modules, introductory hands-on training with the da Vinci robot (dVR) (Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, CA), and dedicated training on the da Vinci Skills Simulator (Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, CA) (dVSS). A third of trainees participated in competency-based dVSS training, all others engaged in traditional time-based training. Pre- and post-course skill testing was conducted on the dVR using 2 standardized skill tasks: ring transfer (RT) and needle passing (NP). Retention of skills was assessed at 5 months post-BSTC.Results: A total of 37 participants completed training. The mean task completion time and number of errors improved significantly post-course on both RT (180.6 vs. 107.4 sec, p < 0.01 and 3.5 vs. 1.3 sec, p < 0.01, respectively) and NP (197.1 vs. 154.1 sec, p < 0.01 and 4.5 vs. 1.8 sec, p = 0.04, respectively) tasks. No significant difference in performance was seen between specialties. Competency-based training was associated with significantly better post-course performance. The dVSS demonstrated excellent face validity. Conclusions: The implementation of a pilot multidisciplinary, simulation-based robotic surgery BSTC revealed significantly improved basic robotic skills among novice trainees, regardless of specialty or level of training. Competency-based training was associated with significantly better acquisition of basic robotic skills.

In recent years, the problem of deteriorating health of students studying in a distance format has been very urgent. On the one hand, the volume of the teaching load, including interesting educational programs in the online format, is increasing; on the other hand, there are no sanitary rules governing the requirements for the educational process in universities. The research purpose is to establish the features of health disorders of distance learning students. A survey was conducted among full-time and distance learning students. Through the analysis of variance, the strength of the impact of each factor related to deviations in students’ health was determined. Statistical reliability was confirmed using variance and special tables. The conducted research identified informatively significant factors related to health deviations of distance learning students. The analysis of variance was used to assess the influence of factors and their strength. Reliability of the impact of factors was determined using variance and special tables. The results are reliable (p<0.001). The available literary sources do not cover the problem of ranking the leading factors. Among them, a decrease in physical activity, emerging sub-health forms, visual impairments, changes in the general psychoemotional state are of particular importance. The following conclusions can be done. The revealed features of health disorders in distance learning students are associated with a decrease in physical activity, the development of hypodynamia, emerging sub-health states, visual impairment, a change in the general psychoemotional state. The distance learning process shall be regulated by Sanitary Rules and Regulations developed for universities.
