Abstract Introduction Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities, and they are the backbone of the health care team. In the early period, competency includes the assessment of personal qualities of a nurse such as values, skills, judgment, and attitude. Nursing students should be given adequate training during the study period to become clinically competent nurses and must be ready to compete with the dynamic world. Objective This study was conducted to find the effect of internship program on self-reported clinical competence of BSc nursing students. Methodology Pre-experimental design adopted with 124 fourth-year BSc nursing students selected using a simple random sampling technique. For assessing the clinical competence, the researchers found a study, where a standard clinical competence tool was developed and used. The self-reported clinical competence questionnaire consists of nursing professional behaviors, general performance, core nursing skills, and advanced nursing skills. Results The results of this study show that a total mean score of the level of clinical competency in the pretest was 86.2 ± 8.6 and lower compared with the posttest 208.5 ± 17.6. Majority of the students (73%) were advanced learners in the pretest and gained competence as experts (94%) in the posttest. One skilled learner found in the pretest promoted to the level of competent learner in the posttest. Conclusion Exposure to the clinical field and practice through an internship program can help student nurses to improve skills. From this study, the researchers found that the internship program has a great impact on improving clinical competence among nursing students.

Background: The one virus stumbled the whole universe is the novel corona virus and impacted physical, emotional and social health status of almost every individual in the world irrespectively. Since the existence of Covid-19 till now it is been noticed that student nurses also affected by this fatal viral infection during their clinical practice. Objectives: The study focused on evaluating the effectiveness of webinar on knowledge regarding the strategies to prevent Covid -19 among student nurses of SIIHS, Honavar, Uttara Kannada. The study aimed at enhancing the knowledge level and influences others through effective health teaching at clinical areas and even in community settings. Methodology: An evaluative approach with pre- experimental, non-randomized, one group pre and post-test research design was adapted. The sample size was 294, purposive sampling technique was adapted. Data collected through testmoz web page and webinar was conducted by google meet app for one week. Data analysed by descriptive and statistical methods (chi-square and z-test) and interpreted by graphs. Results: The findings show that in pre-test 10(3.41%) had poor, 127(43.19%) had average, 157(53.40%) Good and 00% excellent knowledge level whereas in post-test 00% had Poor, 59(20.06%) Average, 176(59.86%) Good and 59 (20.06%) had excellent knowledge level. The pre-test mean score was 23.1 (46.2 %.) and of post-test was 35.6 (71.2%). The computed z’-test value showing significant difference in the pre (x?1=23.1) and post-test (x?2=35.6) knowledge score (p=1.18357, < z= -5.1679, critical z score=-1.6449 ? =0.05 level of significance). Hence the p value is greater than the z value (p(x?Z) = 1.18357e-7), it indicates the webinar was effective and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Conclusion: The study was concluded as the webinar was highly effective and influenced the participant to gain sufficient information on prevention and the spread of Covid 19. Hopefully this enables them to apply

Introduction: Patient safety is an important component of health services quality,and  basic principles of patient care. Nursing students also have a great potential to make an action that could endanger the patient, because hospital is one of student practice area. The purpose of this study was to improve the nursing students competency in patient safety by using knowledge management SECI approached. Method: The study used exploratory survey, and quasy experiment. The samples were some of nursing students of STIKes Muhammadiyah Samarinda who were on internship programme that selected using simple random sampling technique, in total of 54 students. This research’s variables were the knowledge management SECI based-patient safety and nursing student’s competency. The data were collected by using questionnaires and observation. The data were analyze by using Partial Least Square (PLS). Result: The result showed that there were significant influence the implementation of a model patient safety based knowledge management seci on increased competence nursing students. Discussion: Improved student competency in patient safety using SECI knowledge management was carried out in four phases, that is Socialization, Externalization, Combination, and Internalization. The result was a new knowledge related to patient safety that able to improve the student’s competency..Keywords: Patient safety, Knowledge management, SECI, competency

Background: Needlestick and sharp injuries are a serious hazard in any health care setting for health care workers and students during clinical practice. Thus, the efforts to prevent the needlestick and sharps injuries are needed and considered a part of the routine practice.Objective: This study aimed to investigate the frequency of nursing students in doing the correct practice in prevention needlestick and sharps injuries.Methods: This cross- sectional study was conducted between 2013 and 2014 in nursing students of Tien Giang Medical College who participated in clinical practice. There were 360 students participated in the study using simple random sampling. Data were collected using the practical assessment checklist and demographic characteristics questionnaire. Data were processed using STATA 12.0, and analyzed using Chi-square and Fisher test.Results: The students who did general practice correctly accounted for 52.50%, and those who did practice incorrectly was 47.5%. The students who used gauze or wool wrap in inhaler were 59.7%, wearing gloves in practice (39.2%), do not disassemble needles from syringes after injection 50%, and removing needles into barrel after injection (65.6%). There was statistically significant relationship between time of participation in clinical practice and correct practice with p-value 0.04 (<0.05)Conclusion: The correct practice of nursing students related to the prevention of needlestick and sharps injuries remains low. There was a significant relationship between time of participation in clinical practice and correct nursing practice. It is suggested that students must be taught about the risk of infection at the beginning of clinical practice, and constantly reminded throughout the learning process, especially for injection safety awareness, knowledge and techniques about the risk of transmission of HBV, HCV and HIV by sharp objects in the healthcare facility.

Introduction: The CB of clinical nursing students is very important but they are still in the implementation phase of the theory from when it was learned in college. This study aims to describe the correlation between intelligence quotient (IQ), emotional intelligence (EI) and spiritual intelligence (SI) with caring behavior (CB).Methods: This study was descriptive and correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents of this research were all of the clinical nursing students (166 respondents) via the simple random sampling technique. The data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman-rho test with a level of significance ≤ 0.05.Results: The results showed that CB had a correlation with IQ (p=0.019, r=0.211), EI (p=0.048, r=0.178) and SI (p=0.000, r=0.456).Conclusion: IQ, EI, and SI have a correlation with CB. A higher quotient will produce a higher CB. Future research is expected to be able to analyze the other factors related to CB among clinical nursing students.

Introduction: The implementation of blended learning in nursing education is needed to provide quality and efficient learning. There is a need for an investigation of students’ experience in following blended learning especially in the subject of basic science in nursing 2 including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathophysiology and pharmacology in nursing topics. This study aims to provide an ideal picture for students of the Faculty of Medicine in Indonesia. Methods: This study occupied quantitative descriptive research method with simple random sampling technique. The respondents were 93-second years students of the Faculty of Nursing, UniversitasPadjadjaran. The Learning Experience Questionnaire (LEQ) instrument was used to measure students’ experience. The data were analysed using percentage analysis. Results: More than a half of total respondents had good experience in participating in mixed learning of IDK course. Conclusions: Students’good experience may be influenced by the availability of student access to the internet, and the instructional design of the blended learning. The main obstacle in implementing the course were a large learning credit burden and extensive coverage of the learning material. Technology skills training and habituation of blended learning needs to be given by the faculty before students take part in blended learning.

Background: Needlestick and sharp injuries (NSIs) remain one of the main occupational hazards among health care workers (HCWs) that lead to blood-borne pathogen exposure. Purpose: This study examined the risk factors for NSIs among HCWs at a tertiary referral hospital in Bali. Methods: A case-control study was conducted at Sanglah General Hospital, Bali, involving 171 HCWs, divided into 81 cases and 90 control subjects. The sample was selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using multiple logistic regression. Results: The majority of respondents had experienced NSIs once, in the morning shift, and had affected an individual’s hands. The most frequent activity leading to NSIs was giving an injection and most of the situations causing NSIs involved accidental self-action, and recapping needles. Factors associated with the incidence of NSIs were work career or experience of <5 years (p < 0.01; adjusted odds ratio [AOR]=5.04; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.04–12.42), non-compliance with working procedures (p = 0.01; AOR = 2.47; 95%CI= 1.26–4.82), female HCWs (p = 0.03; AOR = 2.21; 95% CI = 1.01–4.55), and unsafe workplace conditions (p = 0.04; AOR = 2.23; 95% CI = 1.01–4.92). Conclusion: Personal and environmental factors such as gender, work experience, compliance with working procedures, and workplace conditions are among the risk factors for NSIs. Occupational health and safety policies and programs focusing on the relevant factors, accompanied by adequate supervision, are necessary to reduce the risk of NSIs occurring.

Background Caesarean section is a surgical procedure in which one or more incisions are made through a mother's (laparotomy) and uterus (hysterotomy) to deliver babies. It is one of the most important operations performed in obstetrics and gynaecology. Aim To assess women's knowledge and perceptions of caesarean section in three selected primary health care centres in Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos. Method This was a non-experimental descriptive study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 128 respondents in the three selected health care centres. Data were manually collected and analysed electronically with the use of SPSS version 20 computer software. Result Of the respondents, 41.9% were aged range of 30–34 years, while only 2.4% were aged 40 years and above. The majority of the respondents (79.8%) had a good knowledge of caesarean section although 68.5% had negative perceptions of caesarean section. There was a significant association between respondents' knowledge of caesarean section and their perception (P<0.05). Conclusions The majority of the women in this study had a good knowledge of caesarean section, although more than half of the respondents had negative perceptions of caesarean section. The majority of respondents were unwilling to undergo caesarean section even when it was indicated.

Nursing must develop techniques for handling controversy. As nursing becomes a more visible and diverse part of the health care system, it must increasingly respond to commentary and criticism — from other providers, from consumers, and from within. Nursing can respond productively to this review, thereby enhancing professional growth and contributing to a positive professional image.An examination of nursing attitudes toward controversy should focus on the preparation — both formal and informal — provided for student nurses in this area. The ability to deal productively with controversy depends upon skills and attitudes; nursing programs must emphasize both of these to truly prepare students who will represent nursing favorably. I have identified four major areas in which nursing can strive to achieve this goal.
