The purpose of this service activity is to improve the communication skills of prospective teacher students through the analysis of scientific articles from national journals in Indonesia. This activity was carried out online from March to May 2021 as many as 12 meetings. Participants of this activity were 27 student teacher candidates from a university in the city of Mataram. The method of implementing this activity is: Students are given an explanation of the material at each meeting via the google meet platform. Students are given the opportunity to ask questions verbally. Students are assigned to search for scientific articles from national journals according to the topics discussed, this activity is carried out through google search. Students download scientific article files from national journals, then upload the file through the "Discussion Forum" feature prepared on the LMS (Learning Management System) platform. Furthermore, students discuss with group members according to discussion instructions through the "Discussion Forum" feature. The value of communication skills is obtained based on the observations of observers on student discussion activities on the "Discussion Forum" feature using a scale of 5. The improvement in communication skills of prospective teacher students is seen from the increase in each indicator at meeting 1 and meeting 12. The results of the observations show the communication skills score of prospective teacher students at the first meeting it was 55 (poor category) while at the last meeting it was 80 (good category). The N-gain value was 57 which was in the medium criteria. Thus, there is an increase in the communication skills of prospective teacher students through the analysis of scientific articles from national journals

The research aims to test the students engagement variable as intervening variable on the relationship between previous achievement and motivation to oral participation in accounting prospective teacher students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Besides, this research also tested whether attitudes affect oral participation directly. The population in this research is all students of accounting education at University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), while the sample in this research was 300 samples. This research used path analysis test to identify direct, indirect, and total effect. The result of path analysis test showed that student engagement strengthens the relationship between previous achievement and motivation to oral participation in prospective accounting teacher students and attitude toward oral participation. Based on the result of research, it is needed to improve the students oral participation, the previous achievement and motivation must be improved. Both of these factors will increase the students engagement that is happy feeling in the process of discussion, having dedication, and being able to overcome various problems.

The research has been carried out on the effect of the application of problem-based learning models on the critical thinking of prospective teacher students on quantum physics material. This study aims to analysis the effect of problem-based learning models and students' critical thinking. Quantum physics material includes five sub-topics of Schrodinger's Equation, Physical Operators, Commutator, Heisenberg's Equation of Motion, and Harmonious Oscillator. This type of research is an experiment using posttest research design only group design. The population in this study were all physics education students for the 2018/2019 academic year. Sampling used total sampling technique with VIA semester students as the experimental class and VIB semester students as the control class. The research hypothesis was analysis with polled variance t-test. Based on the results of hypothesis testing for critical thinking, it is obtained t count (5.805)> t table (1.687) at the 5% significance level, it can be concluded that there was an effect of problem-based learning models on the critical thinking skills of prospective teacher students on student quantum physics material.

The results of the preliminary study were obtained from 15 prospective biology teacher students related to the initial abilities that must be possessed to become a teacher and the implementation of learning in science learning. In general, 15 prospective teachers were of the opinion that it was not so different about the ability to have to become a teacher. Based on the results of the preliminary study, prospective teacher students already know the abilities that need to be possessed to become a teacher and in the implementation of learning students must be active but still not showing knowledge related to knowledge that combines content and pedagogical knowledge. One way to analyze the ability of prospective teacher PCK is through filling in documents consisting of Content Representation (CoRe). The data presented in the form of student response questionnaire analysis related to CoRe in terms of education and language and the results of test the validity and reliability of items. For linguistic aspects of CoRe instrument in general CoRe instrument have very high frequency, meaning that CoRe instrument that have been developed are able to be accepted and used properly by prospective biology teacher students at Muhammadiyah Metro University with a percentage 70%. For educational aspects of the CoRe instrument in general CoRe instrument have very high criteria, meaning that the CoRe instrument that have been developed are able to be accepted and used properly by prospective biology teachers at the Muhammadiyah Metro University with a percentage 73,33%.

The purpose of this study is to explore further the quality of the basic teaching skills of teachers and the usefulness of students' cognitive apprenticeship abilities that are part of a teacher's basic teaching skills. This study uses a literature review research method that describes theories, findings, and other research materials obtained from reference materials to serve as a basis for research activities to develop a framework for cognitive apprenticeship and basic teaching skills of teachers. The results obtained are that the basic teaching skills of teachers still need to be improved. So we need a breakthrough to help improve the basic skills of teaching teachers, one of which is by applying cognitive apprenticeship skills in the teaching skills of prospective teacher students starting from habituation in lectures.

This research, is part of a research on the development of a learning to improve mastery concept of science and the instructional. The learning model in this research integrate two courses with different subject and different semester in two PGSD of several campuses of an university of teacher training.  PGSD-X, which is in the same city with the University and PGSD Y in other city at the same province. Subject of the research consisted of 25 prospective teacher students in PGSD X and 26 prospective teacher students in PGSD-Y. Scenario of learning was done in 4 phases, namely: (1) modeling phase, (2) discussions phase, (3) enrichment phase, and (4) peer teaching phase. The learning topics is the integration of food’s topic and thematic. The data was collected before learning (pre test) and after learning (post test). Data analysis was done by calculating the normalized gain from Hake <g>. The results from PGSD-X  obtained  <g>=0,72±0,07 in the mastery of food  and  <g>= 0,70±0,14 in thematic. The results from PGSD-Y obtained <g>=0,66±0,10 in the mastery of food and <g>=0,53±0,20 in thematic. The results could be concluded that the ability of prospective teachers in the PGSD X better than PGSD –Y in mastery of food concept and thematic instructional. Key words: learning model, prospective teachers, food, thematic

This study aims to determine the ECL of prospective teacher students during lectures. ECL is obtained from the mental effort of students in attending lectures or teaching and learning processes because it will affect the process of constructing students' cognitive schemas from the information received during the learning process. Learning activities are effective and efficient if the ECL of students is in the low category. Data collection was carried out on biology education students who attended group lectures for pedagogic courses and biological science content in the odd semester 2020/2021. This is a descriptive study which was conducted in March-September 2021, with the determination of the sample, namely purposive random sampling. ECL was measured using a mental effort questionnaire in each course in the learning process. The data obtained were analyzed in the conversion of low to high scores, then compared between semester levels to provide an overview of student ECL. The results showed that the mental effort of prospective teacher students was in the low category. The ECL of prospective biology education teacher students is low.
