The purpose of this service activity is to improve the communication skills of prospective teacher students through the analysis of scientific articles from national journals in Indonesia. This activity was carried out online from March to May 2021 as many as 12 meetings. Participants of this activity were 27 student teacher candidates from a university in the city of Mataram. The method of implementing this activity is: Students are given an explanation of the material at each meeting via the google meet platform. Students are given the opportunity to ask questions verbally. Students are assigned to search for scientific articles from national journals according to the topics discussed, this activity is carried out through google search. Students download scientific article files from national journals, then upload the file through the "Discussion Forum" feature prepared on the LMS (Learning Management System) platform. Furthermore, students discuss with group members according to discussion instructions through the "Discussion Forum" feature. The value of communication skills is obtained based on the observations of observers on student discussion activities on the "Discussion Forum" feature using a scale of 5. The improvement in communication skills of prospective teacher students is seen from the increase in each indicator at meeting 1 and meeting 12. The results of the observations show the communication skills score of prospective teacher students at the first meeting it was 55 (poor category) while at the last meeting it was 80 (good category). The N-gain value was 57 which was in the medium criteria. Thus, there is an increase in the communication skills of prospective teacher students through the analysis of scientific articles from national journals

The current learning process is carried out online with the help of e-learning. This certainly changes the pattern of learning and this pattern requires students to be more independent in the learning process. This study aims to compare the effect of using e-learning on the learning independence of prospective teachers in the exact field of exact sciences with the social and humanities field at Universitas Samawa. Respondents in this study amounted to 62 students from five study programs under the auspices of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Respondents were divided into two based on the specifications of the fields of science, exact sciences, and social humanities. The data collection technique used observation technique with the tool used in the form of a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that in general, student-teacher candidates in the field of social humanities obtained a higher score of learning independence than prospective students in the field of exact sciences, while based on each indicator of learning independence, prospective students in the field of exact sciences teachers were higher than prospective students in the field of social humanities specifically on disciplinary indicators. The results of the influence test show that the significant value is greater than 0.05. So, it can be concluded that the use of e-learning during the covid-19 pandemic does not significantly affect the learning independence of prospective teacher students at Universitas Samawa

Abstract. Science, in our case climate- and geo-science, is increasingly interdisciplinary. Scientists must therefore communicate across disciplinary boundaries. For this communication to be successful, scientists must write clearly and concisely, yet, the historically poor standard of scientific writing does not seem to be improving. Scientific writing must improve and the key to long-term improvement of scientific writing lies with the Early Career Scientist (ECS). Many interventions exist for an ECS to improve their writing, like style guides and courses. However, momentum is often difficult to maintain after these interventions are completed. Continuity is key to improving writing. This paper introduces the ClimateSnack project, which aims to motivate ECS's to develop and continue to improve their writing and communication skills. The project adopts a peer-learning framework where ECS's voluntarily form writing groups at different institute s around the world. The group members learn, discuss and improve their writing skills together. Several ClimateSnack writing groups have been formed. This paper examines why some of the groups have flourished and others have dissolved. We identify the challenges involved in making a writing group successful and effective, notably the leadership of self organized groups, and both individual and institutional time management. Within some of the groups, peer learning clearly offered a powerful tool to improve writing as well as bringing other benefits, including improved general communication skills and increased confidence.

ANALYSIS OF STUDENT SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS THROUGH ECOLOGICAL PRACTICUMS AbstractThe study aims to analyze students' science process skills in ecology practical activities. The research subjects were 37 students. Data is collected through performance appraisals. The results showed that the science process skills of students were of high category. The score of observing activity skills was 11.49, formulating a problem of 10.59, identifying variables by 10.81, and making conclusions of 10.02. The skills scores for formulating hypotheses are high (10.47), but low in defining aspects of operational variables (6.19), designing experiments (6.53), and analyzing data/information (6.64). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the ecology practicum activities that have been carried out can improve the science process skills of prospective teacher students in the aspects of observing, formulating problem formulations, identifying variables, and compiling inferences. Based on these findings, several recommendations are stated, first; Science process skills (SPS) must be taught continuously to biology majors because they are a major part of the education curriculum. Also, it must focus more on integrated skills. Second, pay attention to low SPS student teacher candidates' still exists, so it needs to be trained intensively in the low SPS because the SPS (defining operational variables, designing experiments, and analyzing data) is an SPS that is closely related to knowledge formation and problem solving. AbstrakPenelitian bertujuan menganalisis keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa pada kegiatan praktikum ekologi. Subjek penelitian 37 orang mahasiswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui penilaian kinerja.

The importance of learning objectives requires the use of appropriate media so that learning runs effectively and efficiently. The learning media is very important in supporting the learning process and is often overlooked by teachers for various reasons, including limited time, difficulty finding the right media, and also limited funds. With a variety of IT-based and service devices, lecturers and students can access them online and there are applications that make it free for users. Among them are blog users as learning media. This community service activity aims to introduce information and communication technology in the form of Web-Blogs that will later help students who will be prepared to become teacher candidates to modify learning media. The implementation of community service in general can be categorized as successful in terms of participant participation. Participants felt that this dedication activity was very useful for developing web-blog-based learning media that they would use in later learning. The participants' responses to the service activities carried out stated that from the quality of the speakers, the quality of the modules was very good.
