The laying performance of hens fed Uniwhite lupin seed and supplementary DL-methionine

Hens, aged 34 weeks, were fed diets containing 0, 10 or 20 per cent lupin seed (cv. Uniwhite) and sufficient DL-methionine to raise the level to either 1.23 or 2 per cent of the protein. (1.23 per cent was the proportion of methionine in the control diet containing wheat, barley and meat-meal but no lupin seed.) The hens were fed for 24 weeks and each diet had the same metabolizable energy to nutrient ratio for each of the following: crude protein, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and supplementary vitamins and trace elements. Egg number, egg weight, graded quality of eggs and mortality were recorded daily. Feed consumption was recorded midway and at the end of the experiment. An average peak rate of lay of 76 per cent was reached at 34 weeks and held until hens were 39 weeks of age. At the end of the study (hens aged 58 weeks), the average rate of lay was 57 per cent. Feed consumption increased significantly (P < 0.05) with increased proportions of lupin seed in the diet. There was a significant difference in mean egg weight (58.1 v 58.6 g) between factorial treatments containing methionine at 1.23 and 2 per cent of the protein. There were no significant differences between factorial treatments in any other of the measurements analyzed, namely, hen-day egg production, consumption of metabolizable energy or of protein, or the metabolizable energy or protein required per kg of egg. Uniwhite lupin seed supplemented with methionine was included in a laying diet at 10 and 20 per cent without a subsequent loss of laying performance.

A discriminate function analysis showed a consistent response to increased methionine, which indicated that the basal diet was deficient and that the pullets required a total of 0 275% methionine in their diet Lysine supplementation produced a 'significant decrease In feed intake but had no significant effect on any other variable.A multiple regression equation relating metabolizable energy intake to the variables measured in the experiment was calculated and compared with others reported In the literature This was used to predict the requirements of the pullets for a number of essential amino acids.

A 12-week study was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife to evaluate the effect of dietary inclusion of LAYPLUS® (LP) on fertility and egg parameters of female Japanese quails, Coturnix coturnix japonica. Two hundred and ten birds of average weight of 167.75±3.94g were used for this study, and they were allocated randomly into seven treatment groups and replicated thrice. Group 1 served as control without inclusion of LAYPLUS®, while groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 had 250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 750mg/kg and 1000mg/kg inclusion of LP and group 6 had 240mg/kg of vitamin E, respectively, and group 7 clomiphene citrate. Eggs were collected daily and egg production was calculated on a bird-day basis. The data obtained were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. There was significant increase (p<0.05) in the egg production parameters namely egg weight, egg laid per hen and percentage laying rate of LP500mg/kg compared with other groups. The highest percentage egg production was by the LP500mg/kg at 57% while the lowest was by the LP250mg/kg at 41%. There was no significant difference in the egg weight and Haugh unit among the supplemented birds and the control group. There was significant difference among the treatments in the percentage hatchability of the eggs with LP500mg/kg eggs recording the highest value of 95.68%. It can be concluded from this experiment that supplementation of the feed with LP at 500mg/kg had beneficial effect on quail production through improved effect on egg production and hatchability. This experiment was carried out to determine the effects of using L-carnitine and humate alone or in combination in quail diets on laying performance, egg traits and blood parameters. A total of 280 Japanese quails aged 10 weeks, divided into one control group and three treatment groups, were used. The diets of the first, second and third treatment groups were supplemented with 100 mg L-carnitine/kg, 1.5 g humate (Farmagülatör® Dry Plus)/kg and 100 mg L-carnitine + 1.5 g humate/kg, respectively. The experimental period lasted 16 weeks. The addition of L-carnitine and sodium humate alone or in combination did not significantly affect body weight, feed consumption, egg production, feed conversion ratio, mortality, egg-shell thickness, egg yolk index and the percentages of egg-shell, albumen and yolk. Egg weight increased (P < 0.001) with L-carnitine supplementation. The values of egg albumen height (P < 0.05), egg albumen index (P < 0.01) and egg Haugh unit (P < 0.05) were increased with humate supplementation. Egg cholesterol content and blood serum parameters were not affected by the supplementation of L-carnitine with or without humate. The results in this study demonstrated that L-carnitine supplementation increased egg weight while humate addition increased egg albumen index and egg Haugh unit of laying quails. However, the combined administration of L-carnitine and humate did not have any significant effects on the parameters measured.

ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kinerja produksi dan kualitas telur ayam petelur yang diberi air gambut (AG) dan air non gambut (ANG). Penelitian ini menggunakan 30 ekor ayam petelur strain lohman brown umur 15 bulan dengan pemberian pakan ransum komersial. Penelitian terdiri dari dua kelompok ayam dengan jumlah masing-masing 15 ekor. Kelompok pertama diberi minum AG dan kelompok kedua diberi ANG. Peubah yang diamati adalah konsumsi air minum, konsumsi ransum, produksi dan massa telur, konversi ransum, bobot telur, indeks putih telur, indeks kuning telur, tebal cangkang telur dan nilai haugh unit. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan uji-t untuk mengetahui perbedaan antar kelompok perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsumsi air minum, konsumsi ransum dan konversi ransum secara statistik berbeda nyata. Konsumsi air minum pada perlakuan AG (286,57 ml/ekor/hari) lebih tinggi dari pada perlakuan ANG (264,24 ml/ekor/hari), demikian juga konsumsi ransum (98,82 g/ekor/hari vs 90,10 g/ekor/hari). Sedangkan konversi ransum pada perlakuan AG (2,71) lebih baik dari pada perlakuan ANG (3,18). Pada peubah kualitas telur hanya bobot telur yang menunjukkan perbedaan nyata. Bobot telur pada perlakuan AG (55,85 g/butir) lebih tinggi dari pada perlakuan ANG (54,18 g/butir). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pemberian minum dengan AG mampu memperbaiki kinerja produksi ayam petelur, terlihat dari konsumsi air minum, konsumsi dan konversi ransum. Sedangkan pada kualitas telur hanya terlihat dari bobot telur.  (Performance and egg quality of laying hen given peat water and non peat water) ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance and egg quality of laying hens given peat water (PW) and non-peat water (NPW). This study used 30 laying hens strain lohman brown aged 15 months with commercial ration feeding. The study consisted of two groups of chickens with 15 chickens each. The first group was given PW and the second group was given NPW. The variables observed were water consumption, feed consumption, egg production and mass, FCR, egg weight, albumin and yolk index, egg shell thickness and haugh unit value. Data obtained were analyzed using t-test to determine the differences between treatment groups. The results showed that water consumption, feed consumption and FCR were statistically difference. The daily water consumption in PW treatment (286.57 ml/bird/day) was higher than in NPW treatment (264.24 ml/bird/day), as was ration consumption (98.82 g/bird/day vs 90.10 g/ bird/day). While the ration conversion in PW treatment (2.71) was better than that of NPW treatment (3.18). In the egg quality variable, only egg weight showed a significant difference. Egg weight in PW treatment (55.85 g/egg) was higher than in NPW treatment (54.18 g/egg). The conclusion of this experiment was the given peat water to laying hens was able to improve the production performance, indicated by water consumption, feed consumption and FCR. Meanwhile, the quality of eggs can only be seen from the egg weight.

Abstract. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of fluctuate lighting on performance of laying hens. Two programs were applied with 16 hours daily lighting: step-up (normal) lighting program as the control treatment and a fluctuate lighting program of 2 W/m2 for 45 min and 6 W/m2 for 15 min. Egg weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, henday egg production and hen-housed egg production of the laying hens were recorded for 46 weeks. No significant difference for hen-day and hen-housed egg production between the step up and fluctuate lighting programs (P>0.05) were found. However, fluctuate lighting program resulted in a significant increase in egg weight (P<0.05). Moreover, hens in the fluctuate lighting program consumed significantly less amount of feed and had a better feed conversion ratio than hens in the step-up lighting program (P<0.01). The results of the present study indicate that fluctuate lighting can be used for a profitable egg production.

SUMMARYTwo strains of commercial layers, 42 weeks old, were fed ad libitum, 85 and 70% of ad libitum for five 28-day periods to study the effects of feed restriction on body weight, carcass characteristics, laying performance and mortality. There were highly significant strain effects on all traits (P < 0·01) except dressing percentage. Period differences were also observed for egg production, egg weight and feed efficiency. In addition, in all cases the relationship between period and these traits was non-linear and was affected by strain or treatment.Feed restriction had significant effects (P < 0·01) on all traits except dressing percentage and mortality. Feed restriction to 70% of ad libitum reduced egg production, egg weight, body weight and feed consumption and improved feed efficiency. However, in most cases there was no difference between ad libitum feeding and 15% feed restriction.Strain × treatment interaction had significant effects on egg production and feed efficiency.

The present study was conducted to assess the effect of supplementation of Multi-enzymes with lysophospholipids on production performance of pure line White Leghorn layers. Body weights before and after the experiment did not differ significantly across the experimental diets. Irrespective of the dietary treatments, the birds gained 3.83 per cent of live weight relative to its initial body weight. Mean per cent Hen housed egg production was significantly (Pis less than 0.05) higher in diet supplemented with 0.10 MEC-L than other groups. Mean egg weight and average daily feed consumption during 25 to 35 weeks of age indicated no significant effect of enzyme supplementation. Average daily feed consumption per bird in control, 0.05 % and 0.1% multi-enzyme supplemented groups was 108.13, 105.66 and 107.67 g respectively and birds offered control diet recorded numerically more feed intake than enzyme supplemented groups. Comparatively low feed per egg was observed in 0.10 per cent group followed by 0.05 per cent group which offers economic benefits than control diets. However, the egg quality traits between different dietary enzyme supplementation groups showed no significant difference.

ABSTRAKLimbah udang merupakan limbah pengolahan udang yang memiliki potensi sebagai pakan sumber protein bagi ternak puyuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji penggunaan tepung limbah udang (TLU) sebagai sumber protein pakan pada puyuh fase layer. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap empat perlakuan lima ulangan perlakuan yang digunakan terdiri dari empat level penggunaan tepung limbah udang dalam ransum yaitu P0 (kontrol), P1 (5% TLU), P2 (7,5% TLU) dan P3 (10% TLU), tiap unit perlakuan disi dengan 5 ekor puyuh. Puyuh yang diguanakan adalah puyuh fase layer umur 20 minggu, sebanyak 100 ekor yang didistribusikan kedalam 20 unit percobaan. Bahan pakan yang digunakan adalah jagung, dedak padi, konsentrat petelur dan tepung limbah udang. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis ragam dan data yang berbeda nyata (P<0,05) diuji lanjut menggunakan uji duncan. Variabel yang diamati adalah performa produksi: konsumsi pakan, produksi telur, bobot telur dan konversi ransum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan TLU dalam ransum (P1,P2 dan P3) menunjukkan pengaruh nyata (P<0,05) dibanding kontrol pada minggu ke-tiga penelitian terhadap bobot telur dan konversi ransum, penggunaan TLU (P1,P2,P3) selama lima minggu meningkatkan konsumsi ransum (P<0,05) dibanding kontrol tetapi tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) terhadap produksi telur, bobot telur dan konversi ransum. Kesimpulan penelitian ini bahwa penggunaan TLU dalam ransum dapat digunakan hingga level 7,5% sedangkan level 10% menunjukkan adanya penurunan rata-rata performa produksi.Kata kunci: tepung limbah udang, puyuh fase layer, performa produksiABSTRACTShrimp waste was shrimp processing waste which has the potential as protein source for quail feed. This study was aimed to examine the use of shrimp waste flour (SWF) asprotein source for laying quail feed. This study used  completely randomized design that consist of four treatments and five replications.The treatmentswere using levels of shrimp waste flour in feed and consist of P0 (control), P1 (5% SWF), P2 (7.5% SWF) and P3 (10% SWF ). Each treatment unit was filled with 5 quails. One hundred of 20 weeks laying quails were used in this study. Self mixing feed that contained corn, rice bran, laying concentrate and shrimp waste flour were used in this study. The data obtained were analyzed using analyze of variance and continued using Duncan multiple range test. The variables observed were production performance that consist of feed consumption, egg production, egg weight and feed conversionratio. The results showed that the use of SWF in feed (P1, P2 and P3) showed a significant effect (P <0.05) compared to controls in the third week of research on egg weight and feed conversion ratio.The use of SWF (P1, P2, P3) for five weeks increased feed consumption (P <0.05) compared to controls but not significantly different (P>0.05) for egg production, egg weight and feed conversion. The conclusion of this study was the use of SWF in feed can be used until 7.5% on laying quail feed while the level of 10% indicates a decrease in average production performance.Keywords: shrimp waste flour, laying quail, production performance

Poultry products are the major source of animal protein for most people throughout the world and egg production is the major index of performance of commercial layer business and the avenue in the potential increase ofincome from the enterprise which focuses onegg yield, weight of eggs, and increasing their quality production to enhance economic performance.Microalgae is certainly an interesting solution, it aims to increase its value as an animal feed additive in new commercial applications. The experimental research was used in this study to evaluate the laying performance and egg quality of DeKalb under two feeding regimen such as feeding density andfrequency of microalgae paste Chlorella vulgaris under battery type cage system. The experiment was conducted in acompletely randomized designwith a period of 30 days with 81 Dekalb of the same age. The experimental diet used were commercial feeds,microalgae paste and feeding frequencies of 4 times, 3 times and 2 times.Egg characteristics such as total number of eggs, egg weight (g), egg length (mm), egg width (mm) and shape index (%) were computed based on the data from feeding frequency and density. The costs of feeds and price of grown Dekalb and some material used were used in the computation of return on investment. Based on the result, the effect on the external quality of eggs fed under different feeding densities and frequencies on egg production, egg width, egg weight, egg length and shape index resulted to not significantthe null hypothesis was accepted. The internal quality, the effect of different feeding densities on albumen height, albumen weight and yolk width also statistically not significant. Supplementation of microalgae Chlorella vulgaris on hen diet can be included as a dietary supplement for laying hens up to 80% of the diet to produce quality eggs.

Twenty groups of 36 laying hens in individual cages were fed on one of 5 diets in which the energy:protein ratio was constant. Diets 1 to 5 had crude protein 12.0, 12.9, 14.0, 15.0 and 16.0% and metabolizable energy 8.71, 9.57, 10.27, 11.10 and 11.70 MJ/kg. From 24 to 64 weeks old, egg production of hens given diets 1 to 5 was 71.46, 71.31, 72.51, 71.13 and 69.99%, respectively. Corresponding values of mean egg weight, weekly feed intake and efficiency of feed conversion were 60.51, 60.47, 61.11, 61.02, 61.07 g; 157.16, 147.56, 142.03, 130.37, 126.72 g; 3.674, 3.460, 3.262, 3.031, 3.014 kg feed/kg egg, respectively.
