Abstract This article argues that the bulk of the bilateral investment treaties (BITs) that Ethiopia has ever concluded, to regulate its bilateral foreign investment relations, don’t contain an environmental provision that require investing corporations to discharge responsibility towards environment and there is a pressing call for either to re-negotiate, update or engage in concluding of environmental side agreements (ESA). To substantiate the argument the trends of BIT making is assessed, the status of Ethiopian BITs have been evaluated through content analysis, environmental responsibility of Ethiopia has been examined both from domestic and international perspective, relevant reasons for the regulation of environment in foreign investment through BIT have been discussed and justifications for the need to renegotiate, update or make ESA in Ethiopia have been highlighted.

This article represents a snapshot and analysis of U. S. service arts organizations’ DEI statements and activities in 2018. At that time, many primarily White-serving U. S. cultural organizations responded defensively to accusations of elitism and a harmful rigged funding system that maintained the status quo by awarding most cultural funding to these organizations while undermining the health and vitality of cultural organizations by and for historically oppressed communities (Sidford, 2011). Furthermore, Helicon Collaborative (2017) found that even with a host of cultural equity, “diversity” projects (Tseng 2016), and public-facing DEI statements, little had changed within six years. Therefore, this study uses directed and summative content analysis to investigate the research question “what do cultural equity and diversity statements communicate about cultural organizations’ positions on DEI?” This study also uses Frankfurt’s (2005) essay On Bullshit and Laing’s (2016) two-prong definition of accountability as a theoretical framework to examine if and how cultural organizations hold themselves accountable for achieving DEI in the creative sector. Lastly, readers should keep in mind that the public murder of Geor-ge Floyd in 2020 has hastened all of the service arts organizations’ access, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) work examined in this study.

The article discusses the status of quantitative and qualitative data in economic sciences, as well as methods for transforming data into information and knowledge. Particular attention is devoted to content analysis as a set of methods for aggregating, processing and analyzing qualitative data; its forms (qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods) and uses by economists. Content analysis appears to be particularly suitable for non-orthodox economists because of their refusal to consider price as the only source of economic information. The content analysis of metadata of articles indexed in Web of Science and eLibrary suggests that Russian economists still have insufficient familiarity with the principles of content analysis and their applications to research compared with their Western counterparts. It is argued that the creation of on-line platforms for content analysis and on-line banks of qualitative data may become a trigger for changing this situation.

This study discusses the positive politeness strategies in Kupang Malay on Facebook social media which are related with the politeness strategy theory  by Brown and Levinson. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with content analysis method. The research data were the status posts/comments in the Kupang Malay language on the Facebook which were selected based on the suitability of the research objectives. The selected data are then collected and analyzed according to theory. As a result, there are 12 strategies used by Facebook users in Kupang Malay namely (1) give sympathy to the interlocutor; (2) exaggerating sympathy for the interlocutor; (3) pay special attention to the interlocutor; (4) increase interest in the interlocutor; (5) use markers that show similarities; (6) seek the approval of the interlocutor; (7) avoid conflict with the interlocutor; (8) presupposes the interlocutor; (9) the strategy of making jokes; (10) strategies for making offers and promises; (11) showing a sense of optimism; and (12) trying to involve the interlocutor. Penelitian ini membahas strategi kesantunan positif dalam bahasa Melayu Kupang pada media sosial Facebook yang dikaitkan dengan teori strategi kesantunan yang dikemukakan oleh Brown dan Levinson. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi (content analysis). Data penelitian adalah tulisan status/komentar dalam bahasa Melayu Kupang pada Facebook yang dipilih berdasarkan kesesuaian terhadap tujuan penelitian. Data yang dipilih kemudian dikumpulkan dan dianalisis sesuai teori. Hasilnya, ada 12 strategi yang digunakan oleh pengguna Facebook berbahasa Melayu Kupang, dan ada 12 strategi yang ditemukan dalam penggunaanya dalam Facebook, yaitu (1) memberikan simpati pada lawan tutur; (2) melebih-lebihkan simpati pada lawan tutur; (3) memberikan perhatian khusus pada lawan tutur; (4) meningkatkan rasa tertarik pada lawan tutur; (5) menggunakan penanda yang menunjukkan kesamaan; (6) mencari dan mengusahakan persetujuan lawan tutur; (7) menghindari pertentangan dengan lawan tutur; (8) mempresuposisikan lawan tutur; (9) strategi membuat lelucon; (10) strategi membuat penawaran dan janji; (11) menunjukkan rasa optimism; dan (12) berusaha melibatkan lawan tutur.

O presente trabalho visou realizar uma análise qualitativa do estatuto do Instituto Federal de Goiás por meio da análise de conteúdo com o objetivo de investigar a existência de elementos característicos da gestão participativa com base na teoria da gestão participativa e na teoria dos stakeholders. O estatuto foi transformado em um corpus textual para ser processado pelo software IRAMUTEQ por meio da técnica de Classificação Hierárquica Descendente, apoiada na análise de similitude e nuvem de palavras, subsidiando a análise de conteúdo do documento. As análises lexicográficas evidenciaram a existência de elementos característicos deste modelo de gestão no documento analisado. AbstractThe present work aimed to perform a qualitative analysis of the status of the Instituto Federal de Goiás through content analysis with the objective of investigating the existence of characteristic elements of participatory management based on participatory management theory and stakeholders theory. The statute was transformed into a textual corpus to be processed by the IRAMUTEQ software through the Hierarchical Descending Classification technique, supported in the analysis of similarity and cloud of words, supporting the content analysis of the document. Wiki is a typical representative of the User-Generated Content. Its appearance greatly promotes the creation, organization, management, and sharing of knowledge on the Internet. As articles grow rapidly in Wikis, the quality of the articles has aroused many people’s concerns. The topics on how to assess and control the quality of articles have attracted many researchers. However, few studies have been conducted to investigate the status of this research topic. This chapter explores the current research status and trends of wikis' quality and governance. The authors selected papers from the databases of ISI, EI, IEEE, and other widely used databases. They reported the trends and research of wikis’ quality and governance using bibliometric analysis and content analysis of a total of 99 relevant papers. The results show that although the research topics in the field have experienced a very rapid development, they are still at an early age that lacks theories to support them. The discipline of Library and Information Science was found to play a very active role in this new area. Future research agenda and directions are also discussed.

This paper discusses the status of women in leadership position in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) following content analysis. This study argues that although the number of women in the class I position in the civil service has increased, their position in terms of power and influence on decision-making is still insignificant. In particular, the number of women in the leadership position in the civil service does not reflect gender parity that the government of Bangladesh is committed to achieve.

Background: Learning communities (LCs) are intentionally designed groups that are actively engaged in learning with and from each other. While gaining prominence in US medical schools, LCs show significant variability in their characteristics across institutions, creating uncertainty about how best to measure their effects. Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics of medical school LCs by primary purpose, structures, and processes and lay the groundwork for future outcome studies and benchmarking for best practices. Methods: Medical school LC directors from programs affiliated with the Learning Communities Institute (LCI) were sent an online survey of program demographics and activities, and asked to upload a program description or summary of the LC’s purpose, goals, and how it functions. Descriptive statistics were computed for survey responses and a qualitative content analysis was performed on program descriptions by 3 authors to identify and categorize emergent themes. Results: Of 28 medical school LCs surveyed, 96% (27) responded, and 25 (89%) provided program descriptions for qualitative content analysis. All programs reported longitudinal relationships between students and faculty. Most frequently cited objectives were advising or mentoring (100%), professional development (96%), courses (96%), social activities (85%), and wellness (82%). Primary purpose themes were supporting students’ professional development, fostering a sense of community, and creating a sense of wholeness. Structures included a community framework, subdivisions into smaller units, and governance by faculty and students. Process themes included longitudinal relationships, integrating faculty roles, and connecting students across class years. Conclusions: Medical school LCs represent a collection of high-impact educational practices characterized by community and small-group structures, relational continuity, and collaborative learning as a means to guide and holistically support students in their learning and development as physicians. In describing 27 medical school LCs, this study proposes a unifying framework to facilitate future educational outcomes studies across institutions.
