Abstract There have been training scientific articles online for physics teachers. The purpose of this activity is to (1) improve Physics teachers in the ability to create scientific articles and (2) increase the number of scientific articles written by Physics teachers. Seventy-five physics teachers in Mojokerto attended the training. They implemented online by forming a synchronous meeting zoom class and continued with asynchronous assistance using WhatsApp group facilities. The success of this training workshop is evaluated using an assessment of the resulting article and a questionnaire of the trainee’s response to the implementation of training activities. Scientific articles that have been obtained are included in the review process and have been revised to meet the criteria to be published in scientific journals. The article have been prepared aspects of the assessment of articles compiled by Physics teachers include titles and identities, abstracts, introductions, theoretical foundations, results and discussions, conclusions, and bibliography. The articles compiled have met the criteria well, with an average score of 87. The results of the trainee response questionnaire showed that 67 % strongly agreed and 33 % agreed. It shows that there is still a need to increase the quantity and quality of articles compiled by physics teachers.

We apply a novel mistake index to assess trends in the proportion of corrections published between 1993 and 2014 inNature,Scienceand PNAS. The index revealed a progressive increase in the proportion of corrections published in these three high-quality journals. The index appears to be independent of the journal impact factor or the number of items published, as suggested by a comparative analyses among 16 top scientific journals of different impact factors and disciplines. A more detailed analysis suggests that the trend in the time-to-correction increased significantly over time and also differed among journals (Nature233 days;Science136 days; PNAS 232 days). A detailed review of 1,428 errors showed that 60% of corrections were related to figures, authors, references or results. According to the three categories established, 34.7% of the corrections were consideredmild, 47.7%moderateand 17.6%severe,also differing among journals. Errors occurring during the printing process were responsible for 5% of corrections inNature, 3% inScienceand 18% in PNAS. The measurement of the temporal trends in the quality of scientific manuscripts can assist editors and reviewers in identifying the most common mistakes, increasing the rigor of peer-review and improving the quality of published scientific manuscripts.

KKM is the target of the education unit in achieving the competence of each subject. The education unit must make every effort to exceed the specified KKM. The success of achieving KKM is one of the benchmarks for the performance of the education unit in implementing educational programs. Education units with a high KKM and implemented responsibly can be a benchmark for the quality of education for the community. Therefore, there needs to be activities that can improve teacher competence in compiling KKM so that KKM in schools can really be measured and  accounted. The method in this research is the action research method (action research). This study uses a qualitative approach. The subject of the study was the teacher of MTs Daarul Muhsinin in the area of the Ministry of Religion Office of Labuhan Batu Regency. The number of teachers who participated in this activity was 29 people. The results of the first cycle activities still cannot be said to be successful, this is because the average score of the teachers is still below 50 or less. In the second cycle, the training activities were followed up by providing practical assistance, in which the researcher and participants jointly set the minimum completeness criteria. In the second cycle, the results of determining the minimum completeness criteria for subjects prepared by the teacher increased sharply, this was evidenced by the teachers getting an average score of 85 or good. From the results of the study it can be concluded that there is an increase in teacher competence in determining minimum completeness criteria. In the first cycle the average teacher competency score was 25 or less, then increased to 85 or good. This means that training activities have a positive impact on increasing teacher competence in determining minimum completeness criteria.

This chapter explores how validation of new results works in science. It also looks at the peer-review process, both pros and cons, as well as scientific communication, scientific journals, and scientific publishers. We give an assessment of the total number of existing journals with peer review. Other topics discussed include the phenomenon of open access, predatory journals and their impact on contemporary science, and the market of scientific publications. Finally, we touch on degenerative phenomena, such as the market of co-authors, bogus papers, and irrelevant and wrong studies, as well as the problem and the social cost of irreproducible results.

This study aimed to evaluate the general quality of life (QoL) of Brazilian vegetarians. A cross-sectional study was conducted with Brazilian vegetarian adults (18 years old and above). Individuals were recruited to participate in a nationwide online survey that comprised the WHOQOL-BREF as well as sociodemographic and characterization questions related to vegetarianism. The WHOQOL-BREF is composed of 24 items which are divided into four domains (domain 1: physical health; domain 2: psychological well-being; domain 3: social relationships; and domain 4: environment), plus two general items which were analyzed separately, totaling 26 items. The answers from the questionnaire were converted into scores with a 0–100 scale range, with separate analyses for each domain. Results were compared among groups based on the different characteristics of the vegetarian population. A total of 4375 individuals completed the survey. General average score results were 74.67 (domain 1), 66.71 (domain 2), 63.66 (domain 3) and 65.76 (domain 4). Vegans showed better scores when compared to the other vegetarians, except in domain four, where the statistical difference was observed only for semi-vegetarians (lower score). Individuals adopting a vegetarian diet for longer (>1 year) showed better results for domains one and two, with no difference for the other domains. Having close people also adopting a vegetarian diet positively influenced the results for all domains. On the other hand, it was not possible to distinguish any clear influence of the motivation for adopting a vegetarian diet on the scores’ results. Adopting a vegetarian diet does not have detrimental effects on one’s QoL. In fact, the more plant-based the diet, and the longer it was adopted, the better the results were.

When evaluating Quality of Science (QoS) in the context of development initiatives, it is essential to define adequate criteria. The objective of this perspective paper is to show how altmetric and bibliometric indicators have been used to support the evaluation of QoS in the 2020 Review of the Phase 2-CGIAR Research Programs (CRPs, 2017–2022), where, for the first time, the Quality of Research for Development (QoR4D) frame of reference has been utilized across the entire CGIAR CRP portfolio. Overall, the CRP review showed a significant output of scientific publications during the period 2017–2020, with 4,872 articles, 220,101 references, and 7.1 citations per article. Additionally, wider interest in scientific publications is demonstrated by good to high altmetrics, with average attention scores ranging from 70.8 to 806.9 with an average of 425.1. The use of selected bibliometrics was shown to be an adequate tool, for use together with other qualitative indicators to evaluate the QoS in the 12 CRPs. The CRP review process clearly demonstrated that standardized, harmonized and consistent data on research output is paramount to provide high-quality quantitative instruments and should be a priority throughout the transition toward One CGIAR. Therefore, we conclude that the QoR4D framework should be augmented by standardized bibliometric indicators embedded in measurement frameworks within the new One CGIAR. Finally, its practical utilization in monitoring and evaluation should be supported with clear guidelines.

Proper peer review and quality of published articles are often regarded as signs of reliable scientific journals. The aim of this study was to compare whether the quality of statistical reporting and data presentation differs among articles published in ‘predatory dental journals’ and in other dental journals. We evaluated 50 articles published in ‘predatory open access (OA) journals’ and 100 clinical trials published in legitimate dental journals between 2019 and 2020. The quality of statistical reporting and data presentation of each paper was assessed on a scale from 0 (poor) to 10 (high). The mean (SD) quality score of the statistical reporting and data presentation was 2.5 (1.4) for the predatory OA journals, 4.8 (1.8) for the legitimate OA journals, and 5.6 (1.8) for the more visible dental journals. The mean values differed significantly (p < 0.001). The quality of statistical reporting of clinical studies published in predatory journals was found to be lower than in open access and highly cited journals. This difference in quality is a wake-up call to consume study results critically. Poor statistical reporting indicates wider general lower quality in publications where the authors and journals are less likely to be critiqued by peer review.

Abstract Background caregivers of home-cared cancer patient during palliative phase are often under psychological and physical pressure. This can lead to a low level quality of life (QoL). This study assesses the QoL of this type of caregiver, more specifically it aims to outline which factors (age, type of palliative care, amount of time spent daily with the patient) affect positively or negatively the QoL score. Methods The AC-QoL questionnaire has been completed by 25 caregivers of oncological patients in home care in north-eastern Italy. The questionnaire is made of 40 items divided into 8 subjects: support in care, choice of care, stress, economic issues, personal growth, sense of value, care skills and personal satisfaction. It has been administered during a home visit or during a follow-up phone call. Results The average score obtained is 71/120, which means a medium level of QoL. The factors which worsen the QoL are the psychological and physical stress (average score 5/15) and restrictions on caregivers' private life (average score 6/15). No significant differences in the QoL of the caregivers are related to social and personal variables (such as age, working condition, relationship with the patient, type of palliative care, amount of time spent daily with the patient). Conclusions These caregivers play a fundamental role in the management of an appropriate continuity of care and their health and QoL are important. Stress and restrictions on private life are the factors which worsen QoL, that's why nurses should evaluate the caregivers' wellbeing during home-visits. Caregivers usually feel able to offer adequate assistance if they have been adequately trained to by healthcare professionals: nurses should provide every useful tool to aloud the caregiver to feel able of and comfortable providing assistance to his/her relative trough an “empowerment process”. Key messages Caregiver of cancer patient in charge of home palliative care is fundamental for an appropriate continuity of care and his health and quality of life (QoL) are important to provide good assistance. Psycho-physical stress and restrictions on private life worsen QoL. Caregiver’s wellbeing should be assessed and useful tools should be provided by home care nurses to ease caregivers’ job.
