Abstract For the first time, single crystals of undoped lithium tungstate and lithium tungstate doped by 1.25% molybdenum were grown by the low-temperature-gradient Czochralski technique. The standard formation enthalpies, lattices enthalpies, stabilization energies, and the heat capacity were determined in the temperature range of 320-997 K. The lattice enthalpy dependence on Mo content was constructed.

Abstract The heat capacity of lithium tungstate single crystal (Li2WO4) was measured for the first time in the temperature range of 319-997 K. The experiments were carried out by DSC calorimetry. The Li2WO4 single crystal was first grown by low-temperature-gradient Czochralski technique with weight control. The temperature dependence of Li2WO4 heat capacity in the temperature range 319-997 K was monotonic. According to results of our studies, there were no phase transitions in Li2WO4 in the investigated temperature range.

High-quality Na2W2O7 single crystals have been grown by low temperature gradient Czochralski technique (LTG Cz). The phase purity of grown crystals has been verified by XRD analysis. A set of oxide compositions based on Na2W2O7 and doped with Ce and special additions for charge compensation has been prepared by solid state synthesis. The formation of Na2W2O7-based solid solutions is found at as high Ce content as ~ 5 mol%.

Multicanonical molecular dynamics simulations are applied, for the first time, to study the liquid-solid and solid-solid transitions in Lennard-Jones (LJ) clusters. The transition temperatures are estimated based on the peak position in the heat capacity versus temperature curve. For LJ31, LJ58 and LJ98, our results on the solid-solid transition temperature are in good agreement with previous ones. For LJ309, the predicted liquid-solid transition temperature is also in agreement with previous result.

Single crystals of LiNa5Mo9O30 with seeds in the a-, b- and c-directions were successfully grown using the TSSG method. Full sets of dielectric, elastic and piezoelectric matrices of the crystal were determined first time. The octahedral distortion and dipole moment are calculated to explain the piezoelectric properties.

AbstractSingle crystals and bicrystals of water ice have been adiabatically pressurized to produce, and clearly illustrate, two types of internal melt figures: (1) dendritic figures that grow from nucleation imperfections on the specimen’s surface, or from air bubbles at grain boundaries, into the ice as pressure is elevated; and (2) compression melt fractures, flat liquid-filled disks, that nucleate at imperfections in the crystal and grow with the application of pressure eventually to sprout dendritic fingers at the periphery. The transparency of the ice permitted visualization of the growth and behavior of the figures, and this could be an important tool in understanding the role of phase transformations in deep-focus earthquakes. Correlation between figure size and pressure is noted for the first time.

For the first time the paper determines thermophysical properties (specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and heat conductivity) of the full-scale corium of the fast energy nuclear reactor within the temperature range from ~30°С to ~400°С. Obtained data are to be used in temperature fields calculations during modeling the processes of corium melt retention inside of the fast reactor vessel.
